If this was the DA2 timeframe for development, the new game would be released this week. I think that they are taking enough time already to start making announcements and some screenshots at least for a game that is going to take twice as long as DA2 to be made.

To put it another way, Bioware not taking the time to make DA3 correctly is no longer a concern.

Maybe the multiplayer bit is adding time to the game production.

Depends if they were working on DA3 at the same time as the expansion. Sound like they weren't working on DA3 to me but on Exalted March.

They are rolling the expansion into DA3 so in a sense they have been working on da3 since they started working on Exhalted March.

I think that would be a terrible idea.  DA3 should be a seperate game.

Where did you hear that?  I just thought they'd just scrapped it altogether.

My theory and what I do know. Multiplayer will take time but they have a side company for that. Somone earlier in the thread mentioned lay offs. By the contrary BW Is hiring posted on Twitter and looking at resemes at Pax and Dragon Con. Mark Darrah announced the end of anything for DA2 6 months ago so they could put full focus on what we presume iis DA3. At Pax last October they were speaking of ideas and a direction they were thinking of. Pax East this year was the same. The Devs are doing their homework trying to give us the best yet in the DA saga. Lack of acknoledgement on their part is wise until they have what they want. I have faith in the Devs and Bioware. They have received very negative reviews from alot of  people not me.The games we/'ve gotten so far have been great I had a blast with them and still am. People forget they think developing a game is just business as usual. It's not . These people are Artist. A Artist puts his heart and soul into their creation  From the story to drawing landscape. Every person involved has their name on the game. If it was me I would want it to be as perfect as possible.  This game has been in production for sometime it just wasn't the focus because of the ME3 hype Now that that boat has sailled the focus has turned back to DA.  I know they have been doing VOs. Oh and they have been asking questions every month on what we want. So in production? Indeed it is and has been for who knows how long. I predict we get a anouncement at the VGA's. That would be the most exciting thing for our Devs a artist adrenillin rush like no other. I think they have the Dev team they need to blow our minds! Hoping and praying Bioware I have faith in the DA Devs.:D

We're not sure they're putting -all- the content designed for Exalted March into DA3, but it's confirmed that at least some of it will see the light in DA3. Albeit reskinned of course to function with the new lead character instead of Hawke.

I don't have any links but it's pretty common knowledge on here by now =)

I seriously doubt that. This is pure speculation but I'm pretty sure a separate team will do it. Just like Edmonton's Montreal satellite studio did ME3. Will it cut into budget? Probably. I doubt David/Mike will have much input other than maybe some consistencies with the DA universe.

As far as Exalted March being put into DA3, I wouldn't look much into that. Whatever was planned for the expansion will likely be completely overhauled in DA3. They'll change the writing around and it will probably fit into the game seamlessly. I doubt they even put the entire expansion in DA3. It probably will only be certain important pieces...

I doubt we'll even recognize parts that were suppose to be in the Exalted March...

How can anyone recognize an expansion that never existed anyway?

The important plot points of Exalted March will be in DA3 since it is essential to bridge the story.

If they ever really were working on multiplayer I am certain it is scrapped by now.

Well, if people are doing some Exalted Marching, that would be a clue.

If you look on their job hirings, Bioware is specifically looking for MP designers who have experience doing so. The other job positions even give priority for anyone with MP experience. The other job listings were for things like environmental artists which Bioware made pretty clear they were hiring more for DA3...

It's the Edmonton office doing it too, which houses both ME/DA teams. They're recent job offerings within the past few months. Right when DA3 went into full production apparently.

I can't see the Mass Effect team needing new MP devs right now considering their next game is at least two years away. Put it all together...DA3 will definitely have MP. Especially if you look at all the money EA/Bioware are making on the MTs from the packs people buy in ME3. It's an easy and efficient way to create plenty revenue. The potential is much higher in DA3 based on how important weapons, armor, and visuals are to players too...

Dragon Age puts much much greater emphasis on items(similar to Diablo). Imagine the MTs potential for MP...

Yeah but an ME4 game is likely to be very MP intense. Maybe not MMO, but probably akin to Halo stuff.

If they do go the MP route, I hope it's something similar to ME3. I don't have a problem at all the way they did MTs in that game. ME3 isn't competitive for one and two, all MP DLC is free. Which is a huge bonus because they make so much money from MTs. This keeps you interested in the game too and it doesn't fall victim like other games do with DLC. Most games release too much paid DLC for MP and it splits your community up. Which kills matchmaking. Slow matchmaking is a slow death for any community in a game...

Also, MTs aren't forced on you. Everything in the game can be unlocked without paying a penny. It's one of the better MT formulas I've seen. It works great in a co-op formula too. Competitive MP people would just be complaining about P2W. What are they doing in co-op? P2W against AI? Who cares?

from this thread http://social.biowar...ndex/10245444/1

some relevant quotes from that thread that may help clarify:

Mark Darrah wrote...

We will try to bring some closure to Hawke's story but likely not in a playable form. Originally we had planned to do an expansion pack but had to stop to focus on what we are working on now.

Mark Darrah wrote...
The Expansion Pack was never intended to be part of the original DA2 story. It wasn't cut or "reserved". It was conceived of AFTER DA2 had been out for a while.
The expansion pack might have provided better closure on certain personal aspects of Hawke's story, but Hawke's actions in DA2 have changed the world. This will have an impact.

I'm bummed to hear that you guys tossed out the DA2 expansion idea. Is there any chance that at some point, perhaps PAX, you'll be willing to show us what you had planned for the expansion? Some of enjoy seeing things such as that.

How about this: not directly, but sorta.

The expansion was already pursuing certain mechanical changes to our RPG systems, which will absolutely be carried forward to The Next Thing ™, so you'll see how those have evolved.
