when playing through DA, maybe I'm just missing some of these but it seems like there are some basic items and skills that just arn't present in the standard game but easily (I think) added

feel free to post your own ideas and thoughts here, but i sinscerely hope that some kind modder out there will throw the less toolset inclined people a bone and help with some of these

but i digress, sort of, I believe that added items such as stun grenades (preferably called deku nuts and dropped and sold in the brecilian forest :P ), a sensor trap that can locate and ID high lvl enemies ala survival (balanced out with materials and trap making skill of course) and spells like flare (non elemental damage, even if its at a high mana cost), bio (walking bomb with more continuous damage and no explosion) and death (insta kill on low ranks at high mana cost + cooldown, I havent gotten my blood mage yet so that may be there)    would fill in holes that the game should have addressed on its own and would be highly appreciated (at least by me :P )

Sometimes it would be nice to have a potion to increase attributes (+5/+10/+15/+20 maybe).

I know I got wild dreams from time to time, but that is because I am old and know it is not bad to have wild dreams.

So what about teleporting your whole gang to that knoll and let the arrows fall.

Martial arts. If I ever get the ability to create custom animations making gloves and other interesting weapons and using them to defeat enemies would be fun.

Forget Martial Arts I want Polearms. How could spears, glaives, halberds, Pudaos or Kwandaos not be in the game? They are the most versitile and oldest of mankind's weapons.

But mainly spears. Though with the slow atack animations for all weapons but daggers your character would probably get 1 swing every 4 seconds for a spear.

I think it is ridiculious how slow your character swings maces, waraxes, or longswords. It is also odd there is no single weapon talent tree. Sometimes I don't want a shield but I don't want to do the cliche dual weilding.

At least the game has shield bashing, I was happy to see that.

The problem with martial arts is that they are INCREDIBLY overpowered in RPGs. True hand-to-hand combat (whether the various forms of Asian combat, German ringen, etc.) was secondary and supplemental to armed combat. You never went up bare-handed against guys with swords and full armor if you could avoid it, but you WOULD use it if combat closed into ranges where your weapon was no longer effective.

Planed,

Arms and Armor will be addressing attack speeds, and may be adding polearms. The problem with polearms is there's significant size and animation issues that may cause issues in cutscenes.

i personally think it would be funny to be hitting people with a polearm strapped to my back in cutscenes :P

also, for hand to hand, i think oblivion had the right idea, make it do little dmg but fatigue and or dmg their stamina

anyone wanna help me with my deku nuts tho :P plz?

More appropriate for hand-to-hand would be a variety of debuffs akin to sunder arms, add movement penalties, knockdowns, etc.

Looking at ringen from the German fechtbuchs, there's a LOT of joint-locks, limb breaks, etc. I may look into this as an additional talent line in A&A, but that's a low priority.

I am in complete agreement with you there. Even with the comment made earlier about h2h being a last resort in battle historically, I think the fact that we're talking about a game full of demons, mages, dragons and fantasy overall, such a thought seems a little silly. In the spirit of fantasy gaming there's nothing wrong with wanting a martial arts character that can throw hands with a fully armored warrior and come out on top.

I've always been the guy that goes through a game using nothing but his hands but DAO has made that impossible. It's a little frustrating, no rpgs today have a martial arts option. At least, not since JE and I don't see Bioware kicking out a JE2 anytime soon.

I agree with Baracuda, Oblivion made h2h easily upgradeable and highly mod-friendly. I just wish they had compensated a little more when it comes to the lack of attack power. I mean throwing punches is alot faster than swinging a sword so maybe if h2h was significantly weaker but much faster than normal weapon use or something.

Oh for crying out loud....

There's Demons and mages in the game, does that mean I can swing around the battleship Missouri on a chain?

There comes a point where I just want to pick up a baseball bat whenever someone spits up the "It's FANTASY it doesn't NEED to be realistic" line.

/slap slap

yes there is a point but you do not reach it by upping h2h, would it make you happy if they strapped a giant punching dagger onto you to explain the damage? (incidently, you prolly should make these kinds of items)

in real life, if you know what you are doing more than they do, a h2h martial artist can in fact beat a knight, people want to be that guy

in a role playing game you pretend you are somebody better than you actually are, its ok to stretch reality a bit, there is a point, and it's different for everybody so there is no need to bad talk somebody elses idea , u dont like it leave

/end bad talking period

I'm NOT opposed to unarmed combat as a SUPPORTING skill set, but it should NOT be a primary attack method against anyone that's not ALSO unarmed and unarmored.

Play as a Qunari? Anyone? I find it unfair for the Qunaris to be another race in the world and yet to not have an origin.

Doable, but they need more work to be truly complete (like female models, for one thing). I might try this at some point, if someone else doesn't get to it first.

qunari characters seems like something only bioware could release as it would take rescripting of MANY dialogues and completely mess up sten's conversations with you

how about becoming a werewolf?

Please, never become a game designer.

Please.

If you're going to complain about realism in regards to martial arts in a game that features, elves, dwarves, evil dark spawn, dragons, demons, alternate realities, walking trees and magic... well, I'm just going to say that you need to stop taking **** so seriously. It's not good for your blood pressure.
