Pyjak..no Gas Bags..no wait.. Pyjak... no wait, Space Cows!....Pod Crabs...?

The Reapers?

They always did what they were supposed to do. They never screwed anybody, at least not morally. They were also completely honest. They said they intended to wipe us out, and that's all they ever tried to do.

Damn Pod crabs that jump in front of the mako on virmire to block my shot....

when I first saw a Pod Crab I thought it was some minature Geth weapon, so I kept going out of my way to shoot each one with the main canon....

poor poor podcrabs...

the whole thing reminds me of the terminator series. except in this case the terminators are trying to defend themselves from their wrathful masters. I'm pretty sure if here on earth something similar happened, people would panic and try to "pull the plug". skynet fights back.

They messed with Commander Shepard.

I thought that was canon?. Skynet came online, humans tried to turn Skynet off, Skynet turned the vast majority of humans off instead?

This is why kill switches are a horrible idea. The second the newly-sentient artificial intelligence realizes you have a gun to its head it will see little choice except to make you unable to fire it.

Which is why conflict between synthetics and organics is inevitable and if something gained sentience right when all the organics it knew were trying to murder it, what do you think that would do to its perception of other organics?

Quarians are far from idiots. Besides, home appliances don't have kill switches. We have power switches, but those are not kill switches. The geth were designed to do menial tasks. The quarians probably adapted and evolved their role.

Their only mistake was improving the intelligence of the unit when they were grouped. But still, it's easy to see how the creation of the geth got "out of hand". It's not like they sat down and said "let's build AI's in our own image capable of using firearms and not equip them with kill switches". These things develop.

Man..

The geth are basically the internet, if it was confined to one computer or platform then it wouldn't be useful but linked up with more computers it grows bigger, more complex, and more intelligent.

That doesn't make it inevitable. Just stop trying to murder synthetics the second they become sentient and everything will be fine.

"Hey, it's come to our attention that you've recently become sentient. Here's your passport and your first paycheck. Will you be needing weekends off?"

That's literally all it would have taken to resolve the quarian-geth conflict before it started.

Ha.. I doubt that.  If we created an AI, and one of the first real questions it asked is "do we have a soul" or "does this unit have a soul" you're gd right there'd be uproar and fervor.  Look at abortion, religion, taxes.. frakking, any hot button topic today.  Hell, you even have rich people saying "don't tax me bro, otherwise I won't be able to create jobs!"  It's stupid.  People are stupid.

No one would say "here's your passport".  Just look at immigrants and such.  Everyone complaining about anchor babies.  Now.. if an AI came to visit and had a baby.. I could see people giving the baby a passport, but destroying the visiting AI... for sure.

I would have to say they were a bit to intelligent for their own good, the way i see it they were while creating the Geth they most likely got ahead of themselves by what the Geth could be, a source of labor with optimal capacities, and either ignored or didn't see any possible downside to creating such a network, kind of similar, not the same though, as Project Overlord what was it that Doctor Archer said something about man's grasp surpassing his reach, their interest/pride in technology and their creations was their Hubris in the end, but the way they dealt with the Geth and anyone who opposed their orders kind of made me feel as though it was more of Karma, and as if they deserved it, so yeah they were either so smart they were stupid at times, ignored any possible consequence of their actions, a couple of there species ruined it for the whole society, or they are somewhat idiotic.

I'm sorry but people would be freaking the frack out. All it takes is one person to whip up a fervor about how the machines will destroy us before collective stupid takes over.

For some reason they're ancestors and anyone in high command is an ass or moron from the Quarians.
But Kal Reegar and Tali make up for it.
Oh, and everyone was a dumb ass in ME3, except for Victus and his son. Those are some solid dudes.

In my personal opinion, I don't find Quarians to be flat out stupid. Some seem to lack common sense, but they make up for that in technical intellect. The Quarians that were involved with the Morning War, seemed stupid. They overreacted to the Geth, and instead of finding a more peaceful way to solve the situation, decided to "try to blow them up". The Geth acted in self-defence. I love the Quarians, but their actions against the Geth are nothing more than stupid. That's merely my opinion though, how I see it.

How would that kill switch even have worked on remote platforms that have their own power sources? All they needed to do is to learn how to block that signal or kill the ones responsible for the kill switch. Which they did.

I also find certain individuals among the humans to be some of the dumbest and most annoying beings in existence.

Like TIM, Ashley, pretty much anyone working for Cerberus in ME3, Diana Allers, Udina, etc.

 Hey,

So we know how the Geth rebeled against the Quarians.

Why didn't the Quarians outfit each Geth unit with a kill switch?

I mean, even in todays world kill switchs are quite commonly used for various Military purposes.

If the Quarians had actually stopped to think about it, they would have outfitted the Geth with Kill Switches.

Would have saved the entire galaxy some real trouble

Did you miss the point on Rannoch in which the Geth didn't respond to the shut-down commands?

shut down commands and kill switchs are not the same thing.

Shut down commands are like pressing ShutDown in your start menu
A Kill switch is like going into your basement and fliping the power switch.

Why you trying to say "this race is stupid" when the rest of the galaxy is stupid to?
The quarians are not stupid (not all of them), They never attempted to create an "AI", but mistakenly did.
if you play that mission on rannoch "geth consensus", you know about the "kill-switch".
And for "They wait till the dawn of the Reaper invasion( more like apocalypse) to retake their homeworld" Well -> Blame the admirals, in special Gerrel

(sorry my english)
