It took roughly 20 hours but I turned a Nerf Raider into a M-92 Mantis sniper rifle. Yes, it still shoots the foam darts.

You can view more on my deviantART page.

Good job. Does the longer barrel do anything for accuracy? ^_^

No. In my theory, with the extended barrel comes with more friction which can make the foam darts to be stuck in the barrel. Even if it can leave the extended barrel, there's not enough force for it to go far.

I haven't had any issues with it shooting at all. Even with people firing it all weekend long, not a single one got stuck in the barrel and it was still getting some good distance, easily going 20-30 feet before hitting something or someone. Chris Priestly and Mark Meer can both confirm this since they fired it at DragonCon, as well as many other Mass Effect costumers. As for accuracy, it was dead on this whole weekend. I will be posting a video on youtube this week showing that it's still fully functional.

there is a toy store in the Tucson Mall called toys inc and they do custom nerf guns too but their prices are ridiculous. they do up the pressure shooting the darts however they go a little farther and faster

That is really impressive looking :)

What did you use for molding the part where the scope rests? In the work in progress pics, it looks like modeling clay (left column, 2nd from top)

Also, what NERF gun did you base your CAIN model on?

I used DAS air-drying modeling clay and GreatStuff expanding foam.

For the CAIN I used the Nerf Recon. I'm probably going to redo my big bad nuclear weapon and use primarily GreatStuff to make it. It's wonderful to use.

Now I wish I didn't sell mine, TO WALMART.
Very nice being able to shoot it, seems like a bonus

Wow. That's one of the coolest mods I've seen. Almost looks like it's always been like that. Damn.

Wait...it still functions as a nerf gun? Now that really is epic.

Very good work on the sniper rifle.

Also it would be awesome if the obligatory human squadmate in Mass Effect 4 looked like the woman in the photo above.

Yes, it's still fully functional. Shoots straight and far with no jamming problems. Mark Meer, Chris Priestly, as well as a dozen other Mass Effect costumers can confirm this. We were having a little too much fun shooting it at the photoshoot and while waiting in line for panels. I'm glad none of the D*C staff caught us...

Thanks for the compliment on my gun and double thanks for the compliment on my appearance. It's made my day. ^_^

You hear that, BioWare? I would make a good candidate for a human squadmate in Mass Effect! Let's make it happen. <3

I have only one word to describe that: prodigious.

That's an impressive end result and I admire the lengths you went to recreate it. Kudos! Ah, if only I had some artistic talent.
