Man, I have the opposite problem. I had a "friend" abscond with my 360 Elite some time back... I've tempted to buy a new one, but knowing there's a brand new one that's likely backwards compatible in the works... the waiting is torture. I was literally on the last mission of XIII when it was taken. My pain is eternal, as is my retribution.

If you haven't youtubed or otherwise seen spoilers of XIII's conclusion, I ache for your loss. (No. Don't go out and spoil it if you haven't already. Wait and see if your suspicions are correct or not.)

If they are on next gen it could drastically change the amount of time for development and
what the game is like.

Think about it, OP. They want you to be able to import all your decisions across all three games. If it were on a next-generation console, they wouldn't be able to do that,

Doesn't require a thread, just some common sense.

Depends entirely on the release date. Which is really, who knows besides Bioware.

At earliest it will be late 2013. So 80% it will be a split between this and next gen. Get the prettier looking version on the PS4(PS Orbis?) or something. And 12% only "this gen" and 8% only "next" gen.

Of course the more time it moves beyond that the more likely a version for "this gen" will be dropped. If it takes until late 2014, not an entire impossibility, I'd put the chances that it will be on the 360/PS3 at all at less than 40% and dropping rapidly after that.

Sure they could.  It's called a "checklist."  Instead of having a potentially buggy and broken carry over save game, you simply fill out a checklist of all the decisions you made in the previous games.

Indeed - they've already implied that even if it was for the current gen, they're looking into doing something to double check you saves are importing properly, just because DA2 had so many import bugs.

And devalue previous games? NOT BLOODY LIKELY. You will be happy if you get a selection of 2-3 "histories", like DA 2 had. This is EA we are talking about, they will not let you skip their games - EVER, if you want some different history, you had to play previous games - especially on Consoles, where you can't hack the save file or use a save generator.

According to this article and this one EA will be introducing three to five new IPs for the new consoles. These do not tell which studios are going to be creating these. Maybe some of their less successful IPs have to make way to accomplish that goal, because EA isn't doing all that well in the last couple of years and thus creating five new teams doesn't seem realistic. BW looks like one of their large labels, so I wouldn't be surprised if BW is one them that's doing a new IP. I doubt that DA and ME will make way. Maybe it is one of their other less popular games. But that's all speculation.

Given the timelines of what we know of the next gen consoles, I'd be absolutely surprised to find DA3 on a next gen console. The vast majority of its development time will be based in a time before the official console specs are released, let alone the consoles themselves, so I doubt they will take that route.

Also, in regards to new titles being released for the next gen already, I believe this considers the Wii U to be next gen (since it is the next gen console for Nintendo). In that light, we hve already heard of a few games going to be released for Wii U from EA, including ME3.

If DA3 is released on the next gen console, it will be much later of a release than current projections have it. And I'd be afraid it will look like an inferior port to the new gen, as opposed to game with the new console specs in mind and which will be a good fit.

Can we really expect DA3 to be a current gen release? It hasn't even been announced. GTA V got announced. Deadspace 3 got announced (a series, I'd add has almost mirrored DA's release schedule). Hell, the next Metal Gear has been announced.

And the reason it hasn't been announced yet is that there's no gameplay to show. I support that decision and I'm not complaining for the wait (even though the waiting burns like hell), however if Metal Gear, a game the nobody knew even existed before a week ago AND is one of TWO Metal.Gear games to be released next year, has gameplay footage to show, and we know DA has been in development for longer than that, then I can only assume the reason is it's a next gen game.

How can Bioware announce a next gen game when the next gen hasn't been announced?

Considering we've been told not to expect any news in the near future, I wouldn't be surprised if they were prepping for "the next thing" to be "the next gen thing," and they're waiting till they have something to show because they won't be able to show anything until the next gen consoles themselves are revealed. *nods*

Released on current gen first, then with expansions and DLCs that are exclusive to next gen. Punishment for those who refuse to buy new consoles, right?
