My list of older games I always wanted to play but have never gotten around to. Would like some advice on where to start.

Tons of great older games that I never played, I would like some advice on where to start on my list. Does not really matter which console. Good gameplay and graphics are a plus but in general I am looking for the more memorable plots and well written storys (interesting characters is a huge plus too). If a game is not on my list then I probably have already played it but feel free to make suggestions as well.

My to play list:

Final fantasy 6
Planescape: torment
Grim fandango
Beyond good and evil
Metalgear solid
Parasite eve
Chrono trigger
Kingdom hearts
Deus ex (original)
Fallout 1
Fallout 2
Anachronox
Monkey island
Evil Genius
Ultima 7
tropico 2
sacrifice
System shock 2
Jagged alliance 2

Chrono Trigger is a good place to start. I know Planescape: Torment would get quite a few mentions here but I want to be different and recommend the game with a lower accessibility barrier. Chrono Trigger is a great game to just dive into IMO.

I'll also add another game you should try: Anachronox. You can find it on GOG for $5.99.

Fallout 1 if you can tolerate the low resolution or manage to utilize the wide-screen mode successfully.
Grim Fandango is like monkey Island with a weird story. Nice to play.

If you're the reading/dialog type, I'd start with Planescape: Torment. If you're a (longtime)FPS player but also like RPGs, you might want to start with Deus Ex instead. If you're part of the modern Call of Duty generation it might be less easy to get into, but I wouldn't really know, as I've only played the first Call of Duty much. And that was 8 or 9 years ago.

Another I would definitely recommend is Ultima 7. Fantastic open world fantasy game with a level of freedom that has yet to be matched. It does require more work though: you'll need to keep a journal while you're playing. But worth it. Also, make sure you read the lore books and manual before you play the game. More 'work' but it's worth it.

Beyond Good and Evil is one of the best games I've ever played. Amazing world, great story and well made characters. This game was made with love. God bless you Michel Ancel.Graphics is still beautiful and it's a great combination af action and stealth with a bit of free-roam elements.Just watch this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch). I think I gonna play it again.:D

Grim Fandango is the game on your list that has the best dialogue and characters. If you actually have the game I would say play that first. I think it's hard to buy though.

Otherwise go for PS:T. It's available on GoG.

Fallout 1
Fallout 2
Planescape
Monkey Island
Parasite Eve
Final Fantasy 6

I'd also recommend...
Evil Genius (You haven't lived until you've built your own traps and torched some goody two-shoes)
Tropico 2:  Pirate Cove (Has a really neat take on the "Sim" genre)

That game is awesome. I used to play it quite a bit when my brother had it.

I do infact have a copy. Out of all the games on the list it was probably the most difficult for me to get. Luckily my sisters boyfriend had a hard copy of the game he was willing to part with that I have had sitting on my desk for a month now.

They really need to put that game on GoG, damn lucas and his greedy ways!

Kingdom hearts is a nice game, odd but good and KH2 is even better. You may want to try Shadow Hearts 1 & 2 and SMT: Persona 3 & 4, all for PS2 (Persona 3 is also available on PSP).

Beaten all the shadow hearts and personas. The original Shadow hearts was one of those "hidden gems" games that I just happened to stumble upon back in the days when I actually rented games.

FF6 feels really outdated today, mostly because of things like not being able to go 3 steps without a random battle. Trigger is a timeless classic as is Metal Gear Solid. KH1 is good but 2 is significantly better, imo. Beyond Good and Evil is a sort of jack-of-all-trades game that does a lot of things well but not really anything exceptionally.

I had a great time in all of the above. All of them will feel a little dated graphically but the stories and gameplay make up for it.

I can't tell you how many hours I sunk into that game. The music is still burned into my head, years later. Image IPB

I have seen this game on GoG and thought it looked interesting, I have also had another person suggest it too, so I will add it to my GoG wishlist. Ty for the recommendation.

FF6 is one I know I will end up playing sooner or later, and even if it is not the next game I will play it is still pretty high up on my priority list just because I have heard many very trusted sources tell me it is their favorite FF game. I will most likely order the GBA version within the week and it make it the 2nd or 3rd game on my list I play.

the MGS series is probably the most intimidating game on the list for me since I hear so many mixed things depending on the game and the person I am talking to. Well it still deserves a spot on my 'games I need to play' list I will probably wait until I am in a specific mood for that one.

Beyond good and evil only interested me slightly when it came out and I have heard mixed things about it as well, but like FF6 I have had too many trusted reviewers and friends tell me I would love the game that at this point I have no doubt I will. Seems like another one of those hidden gem games, but wheres this HD sequel I saw a trailer for on youtube a while back? QQ

I have played and beaten outcast, it was a good game.
Lost vikings I played when I was very young and I actually have a copy of it coming in the mail which I ordered off ebay earlier this week.
Can't say I know or have heard much about Jagged Alliance 2 but I will look it up. What would you say is the games main selling points?

Im perfectly fine with the dated graphics for the most part. I can still go back and play Baldurs gate and enjoy it just as much as I did back when it was released. Some games age better then others in that sense but if the rest of the game is solid then I can ignore it.

Some very good games in there, fallouts etc. For me the top two would be:

Planescape Torment
System Shock 2 which was a fantastic game.
