I'm in wait and see mode. Still wanna know, what's up with the Keepers, the Crucible (how was the plan supposed to work) and what the hell is Cerberus doing (so far TIM doesn't look like the man with the plan at all, because he needs the crucible and  despite that he does everything in his power to hinder us to build it)?

Just wanna know what Bioware still has in store storywise. Not freaking out if their story goes in another direction than what I hope for though. ME3 was not what I expected/not as good as I expected, but it is a lot of fun.

I don't understand what this thread is about.

The short version.

That no matter if we think the story of Shepard may of ended badly or properly. We're all still fans of the Mass Effect story and we all play a part in what the future of the Mass Effect story may bring to all of us.

We all fell in love with the story the day our character helped aid in the fall of Sovereign and Saren, to the fall of the collector ship, and possibly our very own fall to end the bloody cycle that had been unleashed upon the galaxy.

If tomorrow brings new challenges to face alongside our beloved crew or if tomorrow brings nothing more than the same visual of our efforts. Those of us who choose to wait and see what tomorrow brings should be respected for that choice. Those of us who choose to walk away from it all should also be respected.

I feel there is a lot we still do not know about. While maybe none of what we will discover will ultimately ensure the survival of Shepard. We can at least smile looking back through all the fun we had along the way in this crazy journey through the galaxy. We can only wait to see though what tomorrow brings if we choose to.

I think if we get the chance to visit Omega again and rip it from the hands of Cerberus, we may very well have the answer we seek that will unlock a hidden door to all of this.

Noted and respected.

First, I want to congratulate you and a very positive and well written piece. If we didn't care we wouldn't bother to voice an opinion. Mass Effect was an incredible story from the very beginning. Shepard is pitted against an evil that is steeped in the ages and in the destruction of galactic civilization for countless cycles and he has to convince people to prepare for their worst nightmare with the barest of evidence. It is a near impossible task to save those who do not wish or do care enough to be saved.

The next installment forces Shepard to work with his enemies in ME2 in order to save the innocent. It is an unpleasant reality, but the lies of TIM leaves him with little choice because the galaxy was poisoned against him while Shepard was being resurrected. When Shepard emerges from the process he finds that the galaxy has changed. He is no longer the trusted protector, but the reviled Judas who betrayed the trust of the galaxy.

That was one of the most interesting aspects of the Shepard story. As good of a soldier or politician as he was, as good against the Reapers as he was, and as dedicated to his ideals as he was, he was still like a leaf upon the steam going wherever the current took him in the hands of TIM. Even Aria found her match in TIM and lost Omega. That's why after ME2 I wanted to put TIM in a wood chipper in ME3 feet first.

After ending the Collector threat, killing 305K Batarian men, women, and children, and putting a few more crimps in the Reaper's plans to invade the galaxy in order that they may begin their killing in earnest, Shepard is arrested and taken to Earth in order to answer for his crimes.

This is where the story begins to go off of the rails. Shepard is under house arrest in a luxury apartment cooling his heels while the Alliance, who never believed him, is sheltering him from blood crazed Batarians who want him dead. We are never told what transpired as the Reapers begin falling from the skies and butchering people. We never see the tribunal and we are never made aware of what transpired. All that we do know is that the Alliance for some reason is covering Shepard's backside and has now gotten onboard with the Reaper threat. (Our last hope, and it is a dim one indeed, is that they will release DLC that explains this part of the story.)

That is the first fraying of the story threads. There are other occurrences that break immersion, but the granddaddy of them all is the original ending. A new character is introduced in the final minutes of the game as is a brand spanking new plot, Shepard doesn't argue or even attempt to resist the Catalyst, the Catalyst doesn't even bother to put up a fight to allow us a victory and we are handed a hollow win because he just lays down in the middle of the highway and invites us to run over him with a truck.

The EC corrected a lot of what went wrong in the original ending or OE as I call it, but then people began to question all the beats of the story because BioWare pulled them violently out of the story events with the OE. Worse, the gaming media had a go with the fans and said that we were all entitled whiners who should be kissing BioWare's backside for the marvelous tale that they told, adding insult to injury. When the fans turned on them that began to subside, but the ill will has yet to fade for a lot of fans.

The bottom line is that Shepard's ME story will never recover from that debacle. All that can occur in the ME universe is for the story to just drive on to something else. The amazing part of this whole deal was that BioWare got people to buy into the story to the point where they felt an ownership of their story. People crafted a character, they made choices that they were told would have a direct impact on the story line, the developed LI's for their characters and bonded with the NPCs. So when the OE occurred, it was like somebody was messing with their dog and they got piqued.

So thank you for reminding us of the magic that we once had and enjoyed. I have gotten over my initial anger and resentment and am beginning to find the enjoyment that I once had in the ME franchise and while I have purchased DLC, I am dubious about other ME titles because I don't want to relive the OE to ME3 all over again in another episode. BioWare may have patched the story, but they still have a long way to go to re-earn my trust.

Thank you for your kind opening words. I am certain some cringe at my work simply because my grammar isn't exactly the greatest on earth (I admit this and own it).

When I first stepped into the Mass Effect universe it was kind of a "eh just another sci-fi game that my friend recommended" - Never was big into the Sci-fi genre of anything, much prefer fantasy over sci-fi. But once I gave it a little more time and started to dive deeper into the game, I quickly found myself falling in love with the story.

Then came time for Mass Effect 2 to come out and at this point I am just about jumping out of my seat ready to go. The trip through the time of ME2 was just awesome beyond words, finding out I could romance Tali threw things into a whole other loop of awesome to my mind. Seeing those Reapers in dark space just ready to strike, made me just about scream "BRING IT ON!" out loud. Just did it in my mind though lol.

Then we jump into Mass Effect 3 and all you know what hits the fan. Worlds are falling, people are getting desperate, and everything is starting to hinge on just one device that could end this war. We even see the very fabrics of our Shepard start to break down and the aid of our beloved crew is what helps pick us back up to keep fighting. The ending hits and everything sort of enters this sort of...I guess hollow feeling? I didn't hate the ending, but I wasn't overjoyed about it, and with the extended cut it actually filled some of that empty feeling in.

Ultimately I am fine with the ending as it is. That is just my opinion among a sea of many different opinions. I am happy to hear that you're starting to rekindle your love for the Mass effect universe again and I am sure one of the mods that pop their head in are happy to hear that also.

Tomorrow may bring a new ending, it may bring nothing at all. We can only wait to see or walk away from it all. But all the same we can only wait till Bioware reveals more to us.

Thank you for your great post.

Noted and respected greatly.
