I'd say the most fun is the Mage, followed by melee rogue and dual-wield warrior as joint second.

I love my mage -- and my favorite spell "combo" is

Earthquack -- to slow the monsters down

Fireball #1 -- To slow them down some more

Blizzard -- to make sure that they think they are not "hot stuff" anymore

Firestorm -- Like 'em well done

Tempest -- Just make sure they are dead

Fireball #2 -- Weaken them some more

If they lived through all of that -- they can meet my meat shields

Yes, it is over kill, but so much fun!

what about archer rogue (with the stamina potion mod, because archer skills suck up way too much stamina)

I know some people find them underwhelming, but I love rogue archers.  So far, I've played 5 of them, including my just-finished playthrough that I intend to continue into Awakenings.

Mages are a close second!

Mage, I always love mages in about anything... whether they are wizards with hats and robes, or Chaos sorcerers and Space Marine librarians wearing plate armor and bionic implants...

Secondly comes the Rogue Archers but they feel so much weaker in every aspect.

2handed rogue. Duelist+Assassin.

*EDIT:  Fun fact, highest damage was Rogue Archer on XBox.

1 - Rogue for the veratility of design and play.

2 - Mage for spell variety.

3 - Warriors for weapon specialties and sub-classes.

I love playing a Dual Wield Warrior

But Primal mage will always be my favorite.

Two Handed Dwarf Commoner who uses greatswords with Beserk, Reaver and when Awakening starts, Templar.

My dwarf is a death dealing tank.

Two-handed main char rocks. Wynne is pretty good to start with. DLC gear, and a mage with glyph of warding (cast when you are attacked by melee), will be good enough later on.

The sunder skills for dps, and the twohandedsweeps for CC. Use taunt or better the champion Warcry for threat.

I also went Templar to be able to deal with Casters. Makes for a very versatile party, as you can take just about anyone you wish along. I even made Alistair a dualwielder :).

I don't like arcane warriors. They're basically what's called "tank mages," which has been the symbol of powergaming ever since Ultima Online. The game just gets far too easy when you play something like that, even on nightmare difficulty. In any case, mages in plate armor makes me cringe.

Then use robes or light armor. Being able to wear a helm instead of cowls & hats makes this one a winner for me.

I Personally prefer my Arcane Warrior/Blood Mage with a Spell Combo of Petrify and Virulent Walking Bomb.

Leather armor and helmets would look equally bad on a mage, to me. I prefer using the "hide helmet" mod, which makes whatever you put in the head slot invisible.

I have the most fun playing a sword and shield warrior (templar and champion specializations), and don't enjoy playing duel wield warriors, rogues or mages (including the arcane warrior) half as much, which is pretty much the opposite of many, so I don't think there is a 'most fun class.' It depends on what you like.

It's all about personal preference. I have played all three classes (with all possible variations) and they are all fun. My favorite though will always be a dual wielding rogue, followed by a blood mage. But again, it's all about personal preference.

EDIT: Gah, thread necromancy!!!

2H warrior. Not the highest damage but it requires a lot of direct control and it can be pretty strong especially on boss fights.

DW warrior would be a close second. Extremely fun when you have a group set up that lets you get the fastest attack speed possible and you just whirlwind and swipe the crap out of everything on top of that.
