On the PC, as has been noted, there seems to be little in-game intolerance voiced. Reports from the consoles seem to show the reverse. This is also indicated by the common use of fascist terminology by some console users when referring to the apparently more tolerant PC community (PC Master Race etc.).
Now, I am aware that most console users will be decent folk who know how to act around others. I am also aware that one of the main selling points of consoles is that they are easy to use compared to PCs and easier to buy (less up front initial cost). We all know that intolerance is born out of ignorance and it seems likely to me that consoles will attract more of their fair share of ignorant gamers due to their ease of use. Just look at the console FGC (fighting game community) for a great example. Again, I am not talking about the bulk of console gamers.
It may be that the best solution is to move to the PC or to more complex games to avoid the ignorance tide. Still, this attempt to educate should be applauded though it may be a big job to undertake.
Good luck OP. You're brave, but you'll still need it with this endeavor.

Haha. Is this where I sign up for the PC elitist course? For all the talk of how console users are ignorant, that was a pretty ignorant analysis.
I for one own a PC, Xbox, PS3, wii. And many other systems. To generalize is just an ignorant move on anybody's part.
Now hold on, I think I am being a bit misunderstood here. I am not over generalising. I am expressly NOT saying that console gamers are ignorant. In fact, due to the sheer numbers of console gamers, it is very obvious that there are far more tolerant gamers on consoles than there are on the PC. Educated gamers love consoles, and some love PCs too. The only reason I don't own a console is because of the ongoing costs (expensive games and on-line subscription fees). I find them as fun as the next guy/gal, though if the community has as much intolerant in-game commentary as there appears to be it would also put me off some.
That said, there are also a number of gamers who are intolerant and unfair intolerance is very commonly, in fact I would go so far as to say almost always, born of ignorance. These are fairly obvious truths. Another apparent truth is that there is a lot of aggressive intolerance displayed during console gaming sessions whereas there is little to none seen in PC gaming sessions. I have recently seen this when experimenting with a fighting game with a largely console user base. The sexism in particular was staggering. I was actually taken by surprise as I had not expected it to be so breath-takingly different to the PC based communities I am used to. The OP seems to be finding the same in ME3.
In my experience the ignorant tend to avoid the more complex and challenging routes unless they are actively seeking to improve themselves (unlikely in the aggressively intolerant, I feel). Is it not, then, reasonable to imagine that ignorant gamers would gravitate towards the most accessable gaming platforms?
That is all I am saying. I am very much NOT saying that PC gamers are in general somehow more 'elite' than console gamers. I can see no evidence to even consider such a position.

if it was meant to be funny or a troll post....u sir suck the big one
Now, this is an interesting philosophical comment. Not fully detailed, but I get it. I clearly state in my original post that 'I am aware that most console users will be decent folk who know how to act around others', so you are clearly pointing out that I believe myself better than those I specify in my post. The intolerant gamers who are abusing others in-game. By definition, that could be called 'pompous and arrogant', I agree.
Essentially you are pointing out that I could be accused of being intolerant of intolerance. Well, I do believe that working from a position of understanding is better than from a position of ignorance. I believe that few people are actually incapable of a level of understanding that would render intolerance illogical. Since they are capable, then I am not better than them at an essential level, however I do believe that those who are unwilling to abandon their ignorance and instead seek to make life hard for others due to their intolerance and the feeling of superiority it gives them are both foolish and dangerous. I am better than them... but I realise the logical paradox. It is the classical ethical singularity.
Tolerance and intolerance are not easy bedfellows. One has to take an ethical position, belief, or political stance that fits with one's own soul. Then one should actively join the fight, or risk a society that would be difficult to bear. Personally I have studied and qualified in ethics at honours degree level and now fight to defend others as a senior trade unionist and personal case officer. I feel I have taken an ethical stand I can live with and am hoping only to encourage others to do the same. I hope you all find this acceptable, though I am sadly aware that many in the world will not. I do not let that realisation hold me back from challenging intolerance where I see it however, as I am not a coward. Again, I hope you will all understand that it is not possible for me to do otherwise.
