Actually, I have no idea how things are on console beyond what is mentioned here *shrug*

But I've met a good number of identifiably female players on PC, and I've never heard any of them being harassed. And the amount of penis-related discourse is very limited.

Heck, I think I can count the number of annoying players (as in: "why don't you revive me, you [expletive]") on one hand, and that's without counting in binary.

Things on console are not nearly as bad as what people like to make it out to be. At least, not on PS3, at any rate. I play this game online a lot, I will PUG random lobbies of all difficulty levels a lot, and I am vocal on my mic. Have not had one person harrass me or make snide comments about my gender. Have also not really run across any all-out jerks player-wise either. Most folks just try the best they can to make credits and have fun... which is the whole point of the game.

Unless XBox is a vastly different world from PS3, it should be relatively the same, I would think. I could be wrong. I've never played on XBox Live.

Its not any different on xbox then what you have described. I think a lot of people like to exaggerate about it. I am a women and I haven't been harassed and most people are friendly.

Yeah, and that's a completely objective analysis, I'm sure. It seems to me you're twisting the words you see people posting to interpret them however you want, rather than in the spirit they were originally meant.

Better get off the internet, then. Because the guys making those jokes probably aren't going to stop. Mainly because reactions like yours egg them on to keep doing it. Stop reacting so violently to it, and the jokes will stop. Keep reacting as you are, and you'll never see the end of them.
