I'm probably missing something here, ME lore can be a little confusing for me! :D  Anyway, Leviathan says during the conversation that all reapers are ALL created in the image of Harbinger:

Leviathan: Each harvest ends with the birth of a Reaper.
Leviathan: Perfect in it's design. Each formed in Harbinger's image. Our Image.

Why were they creating a Human-Reaper? it's a little contradictory isn't it?
I looked on the MEWiki (maybe not the best source of info :P) and it states that EDI "speculated that every Reaper is built to resemble the race used to create it, and that the Reaper were unsuccessful in attempting to construct a Reaper from Prothean raw material". Yet Leviathan says Reapers are exclusively made in their image.

So....umm.
Yeah.
Does that mean the Reapers have been harvesting Leviathans race for the past 50k years? Yet they (leviathan's race) were able to avoid detection and weren't harvested, fully anyway.
Or.
The Reapers suck at harvesting and werent able to harvest the Protheans and the races before them? Therefor the Reaper army hasn't created one single reaper since they tried to fully harvest Leviathan and his .. um crustacean people?

Well thats my thought for the day! Please feel free to comment and help me understand :) I love ME but my lore is DEFINATELY flawed....I hate reading the codex. Seriously.
Thanks Guys!

Sme bioware exec has said that the core of each Reaper is in the form of the species, while the shell is in Leviathan form... So that human Reaper was just the core.

This. Even though the human Reaper had a core of its own that was spherical. And the derelict Reaper had a spherical one too...

So inside every Reaper is a synthetic being that has the form of another race? In a reaper shell?? O.o

The outside is made in the image of Harbinger who was made in the image of the Leviathans. The inner core is made in the image of the harvested species. It's kind of cool really.

Ahh! I see :D Well it makes sense to me now.....I think :) still the way its explained in ME2 and ME3...I thought it was a little contradictory, but I think I get it now :)

Why would they shape it like a human, then stick it in a squidcase anyway? Does he sit there in the middle operating it like a Power Ranger Zord?

Mass Effect 3 has a tendency to completely retcon Drew Karpyshyn's ideas. The Human reaper was originally supposed to be the Reapers' trump card to stop the "Dark Energy Threat" (or whatever ended up as Drew's ending). It was originally different because humans were somehow special enough to help the Reapers realize their goals.

think of the Reapers as the Daleks... outside their all the same (more or less) inside.. they looks like whatever species they were harvested from.

Oh..really? I think I remember he mentioned it in an Interview or something? When I wrote the post my original thought was that maybe BioWare just...forgot the lore from ME2 when creating 3. So...did they?

That's even more vague than "Synthetics will always destroy their makers".

I hate the endings as much as the next guy, but the dark energy plot was stone-cold dead on arrival.

When they were going with the Dark Energy plot way back in ME2 the point of the human Reaper was that Harbinger believed that humanity was their only hope to finding a solution to the Dark Energy crisis. So they were making a human reaper.

But when they changed the plot to the whole "Catalyst preventing organic/synthetic conflict" they made the cores of Reapers resemble the species used to create it.

What about Destroyer class Reapers?

They are supposed to be made from lesser species.

Would this cycles Reaper Destroyers have Elcor and Hanaar cores?

Ahhhh, so they just what, pretend the Human reaper never meant anything? Other than being a power source for the Illusive Mans base? I vaguely remeber reading about the Dark energy plot, it would definatly make more sense! But as someone stated above it would be stone cold. Well for me anyway :) I think I'd find it a little boring...but it woldn't be as bad as ****ing darth catalyst :P Would you have like the Dark Energy plot  better malice? :)

They look like the harvested species inside but then the keepers put the newly created Reaper in a Leviathan metallic costume.

They recreate the form of the most successful races which means the last most challenging enemy to the reapers were the leviathan.

Hahaha! I wouldn't want them to have a Reper shell! Imaging a Hanar-Reaper! It would look like a Tripod :P

What a lot people fail to understand is "in the image of" does not mean "identical to".
