Those are "options" in the same way amputating your arm to get rid of a wart on your finger is an option.

N/A for me. My personal head-canon is an IT/Refuse/Destroy hybrid which both Edi and the Geth survive, so there's no need to tell Joker anything. In any case, Edi had her comm open so he already knows what happened. (That comm is also the reason Reth, Garrus, Tali, Edi, and Miranda survive the experience, as he knew exactly where they were when it came time to grab them and get the heck out of Dodge.)

Or if we go the Marauder Shields route, well, I'm not in-the-know with the story, but if Edi dies, I'm fairly sure Joker (if HE survives!) will be aware of how it happened.

I don't accept Bioware's outcomes as canon. Period.

I won't headcanon it - me picking destroy damned the Geth and "killed" EDI, I have no gripes with that. Its unfortunate, especially because the Geth had finally become fully sentient and EDI was joker's sexbot, but no one was coming out of a war with the Reapers unscathed and destroy was the only chance for the rest of the galaxy to be free to choose their own path, hell even if that means organics do build synthetics that then wipe them out, so long as organics had a CHOICE.

Joker would understand, he probably wouldn't be happy about it but he'd trust shepard's judgement

Why would you need to tell anyone? Just pay your respects and tell him that her "death" was necessary to defeating the reapers. Telling anyone about the catalyst would just make them question your sanity.
