No, Griffons are extinct in the Dragon age universe but you already knew this.

I don't think they would talk about Griffons if Griffons were never going to come back.

Not unless they get rid of DA II's art style.

I don't know about DA3, but somewhere in the DA series, these animals will be found alive. Well, if the series continues on past DA3. I know the franchise was planned to extend beyond a trilogy, but... well, let's not all hang our hats on a DA4 until we've at least seen proof that DA3 is "officially" in development.

Given how prevalent the griffons were with the Grey Wardens, it makes you wonder if perhaps they plan on trying the two together, other than just having them be cool mounts.

It's always possible that griffons exist somewhere, even if not in Theadas, which is just a continent, not a planet. At some convenient time, they could return. It's not like the writers at Bioware are any strangers to hand-waving; they'll come up with some excuse for their return, like with Leliana's revival if killed in Origins.

Perhaps the griffons are on the other side of the eluvian that Morrigan went through, and the next time we see her, she'll be riding one.

My Cousland will name his after his loving wife, Anora, just to annoy her and Loghain.
