Hello everyone,
I have recently bought the Neverwinter Nights Complete Collection, and when I played Neverwinters Nights 2 (+ all expansions installed) I noticed that the game is running at low fps. Neverwinter Nights 1 runs well, btw.
Let me explain my case:
I am running NWN2 on Windows Vista (operative system 64bits). My PC specs are:
Intel QuadCore @ 2.5GHz, Nvidia Geforce GT220 1GB DDR3, 8 GB RAM. I use to play on 1920x1080 resolution.
My problem is, as I've seen on the forums, quite usual:
I have very low fps when i'm going outdoors (15-25 fps).
I have already tried to turn off everything related to shadows, Vertical Sync, Light Points, Bloom effects, tried the lowest graphic settings, but nothing that I've done had an impact on the performance (only when I turned off shadows, fps jumped to 60-70 indoors, because before it was unplayable indoors too). I have the latest drivers for my card, the last version of the game. So now I don't know what to do to improve the fps. Is there a problem with my pc? because I could handle Oblivion with no problems at max settings....
I would be very pleased if you could help me to solve this problem. Thank you,
Xipitus

sounds like you're shooting par for the course, Xip.
shadows are a huge hit. I'm running a comparable, slightly earlier, machine and I get those fps on a good day. Fortunately i pause so much i don't notice it,
you might try one of the 3rd party tuners for nVidia ...

Hi kevL,
Could you explain me with more detail what do you mean by the 3rd party tuners for nVidia, please?
Finally I decided to reinstall the game, and for my surprise, it runs a bit more smooth outdoors. I didn't change anything in the game options, so I don't know what happened but now I can play it better. Maybe it was a matter of drivers, but I can't understand, because I already had the latest drivers for my card. I downloaded them again, and after reinstalled the game, and magically it runs better.
But it's really weird, because I didn't change anything in the graphic option... Now I can turn on shadows (not at higher options) without decreasing a lot on the fps, but I have them turned off for better performance. I also noticed fps improvement turning off Bloom effects.
I have also opened the Task Manager to set the core affinity (before reinstalling the game, I couldn't do it because I had no permission, don't ask me why) and I have seen that it has been set for the 4 cpu's (maybe before it was using only 1 cpu). So perhaps here's a reason why the game runs better. There were probably installation or drivers issues and reinstalling the game has fixed them.
Now, I'm happy because I can play it decently, but I have a bittersweet taste because I know the game can run better, with highest settings than I have (maybe my card can't max out this game) and no one can assure me that when I play it again it returns to the low fps it had before.
What should I do now? Check out older drivers or stay like now? I think the way the game has been magically fixed is only a workaround....

Not quite right (Basically, however, an nVIDIA GT220 is just intended for business charts, graphs. presentations, and spreadsheets). It's a fence-sitter, neither really strong for games, nor strictly just a business card after all.
NWN2 Requirements (MotB included)
Minimum System Requirements:
- Windows XP
- 512MB System RAM
- Pentium 4 2.4 GHz or Athlon XP 2000 or equivalent
- 128MB Direct3D compatible video card with DirectX 9.0c compatible driver
(GeForce 6600 GT or Radeon 9700 Pro graphics card with SM 2.0 or better)**
- CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
- 4.6GB free hard disk space
- DirectX 9.0c (included)
- DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
- Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework for toolset (included)
- Broadband connection for multiplayer online play
- Keyboard, Mouse
The GT220 is actually above the minimum, so what's probably happening is more driver limitation.
nVIDIA releases far too many drivers that do not work correctly for their old cards, like the 220, and old games, like NWN2. Try other drivers.
