The Raptor was my first weapon.

It was accurate, graceful, and fast firing. I quickly mastered pulling off chain headshots with it, tearing through hoards of mine enemies with this powerful finger workout. Always a headshot, and always on target.

These times were peaceful, and great. They came to a total end.....

On July 31st, 2012.

N7 Indra Sniper Rifle

From this point on, there was no longer any reason to justify using this weapon. A sniper with a similar scope, and feel had become almost exactly as powerful as it per shot. While firing 25% faster, holding many more rounds then it, and being much lighter.

Now. The fact is... My Raptor had lost its home long ago. This day was only the day it was made painfully obvious that the climbing stats of weapons had rendered it obsolete.

Half a month before this:

This weapon was the almost identical counterpart to the Raptor. Somehow, it made the transition into the current metagame, while my Raptor was left in the dark. You could argue that this is "Balanced" by the Raptors 550 RPM rate of fire... This is a lie.

The fact is, is that the stat sheet of the Raptor lies about its rate of fire. It fires 400 RPM, Not 550 RPM. Worse, this firing delay makes the Raptor immune to ROF bonuses.
Why? I dunno. However, Here is another gun of identical power that actually fires 550 RPM.

June 21st, 2012:

Arc Pistol

For reference, this weapon weighs half the Raptors weight, and can be charged to fire three 2X damage pellets at the start of your burst.

Back then, There was no reason to use the prince of snipers.

However, The problems with this rifle were still present. It had still been overshadowed almost a month prior.

June 5th, 2012:

Eagle Heavy Pistol
- Damage increased from [67.0-83.8] to [74.9-93.7]
- Clip size increased from 18 to 24
- Spare ammo increased from [180-225] to [192-240]

For reference, this weapon fires exactly as fast as the Raptor, weighs a quarter of its weight, and is fully automatic.
It is lamented as the worst weapon in the game.
Yet it still puts the old prince of snipers in the shadows in the current metagame if you actually do the math.

With a whopping 30 DPS difference between the two, the Eagle still is far superior to the raptor, due to the fact that you only need to click once, and the fact that ones magazine is far longer.

Things are not lost forever. Lets make sure this buff happens,
September.... 12th, 2012:

Eric Fagnan writes....

Raptor, Prince of the snipers:
- Damage increased from [78.2-97.7] to [109.5-136.8]
AND
(
- Min Fire Delay reduced from [.15] to [.0]
- Rate of fire reduced from [550]  to [400]
OR
- Aim Error (Hipfire spread Reduced from [1.5-3.5] to [.9-1.8]
OR
- Weight reduced from [1.0-1.75] to [.9-1.5]
)

This buff is almost exactly what its competitors got in the end. This would allow the prince of snipers to stand where it once stood... As a fair alternative to the mattock.

......We have been buffed to .7 weight.

This means we pretty much cant buff it to mattock levels of dps anymore.
However.... We can buff it to Mattock levels of damage per bullet..... Thanks to our oppressive firecap overlords (And lower rate of fire!)

New proposed buff:

Damage: [78.2-97.3] To [105-131]

We now have a few sigs, courtesy of Blind2Society

Ohh. I have told plenty of stories about how much I used this gun.

I am plenty qualified when it comes to how much we would need to buff it by.

Here is a TL;DR version

The Indra, Mattock, Arc Pistol, and Eagle are all powerful enough to make the much heavier Raptor pointless

Would love a raptor damage buff. Will be making a sig soon. That said, I'm not sure about your power creep argument as that would mean that without the more powerful guns the raptor would be fine. But no, it's not fine. Not at all. This gun is garbage damage wise.

Then again, the whole power creep debate is subjective as each person has there own idea as to how powerful things should be. One thing I think we can agree on however, the raptor needs to do more damage.

Buff the Raptor, Prince of snipers!

I was just saying that because you said you didn't like Didn't Read GIFs. But I only have that one right now. I didn't want to re-use it.

I read your thread. "You underestimate my power."

The Raptor needs something like a 100% damage increase.

Buff! Buff! Buff for power!

I agree, it used to be my go to weapon for quite some time. It really needed to have stayed in lock step in power parity with the Mattock. It just goes to show that Bioware does not have a good holistic grasp of their own game. Maybe they need some better automated spreadsheets that throw warning flags when go about tweaking things. Also still waiting for the general Sniper Rifle Buff to make up the difference that came from the TC nerf.

I used to use this weapon a lot as well for similar reasons. It was also one of the first uncommons I got to X, so it was a frequent weapon of choice for me on several classes.

Buff this weapon for great justice

After spending a day in the story and campaign discussion forum, I've come to realize that the funny thing about TLDR memes in the MP forum is that the OPs here aren't even half as long as the typical OPs over there that garner widespread discussion, and no one ever posts TLDR memes.

It was an interesting cultural observation. I tend to prefer it here, where people are less serious and preoccupied with ending angst.

^ I noticed that as well. It's mostly a different crowd.

I think I can do that. Just a png with no background right?

I'll support your Raptor damage buff the day you stop calling for a nerf to the GPS.

Its less support, more "Wouldn't care," at this point.

Oh and OT, I dunno, every weapon is getting buffed I guess, so why not the Raptor.

Personally I think that since the best weapons have staked out a forward position, and other weapons now have to be buffed to be relevant in relation to them, and infiltrators and certain others with high-DPS weapons outmatch non-grenade spamming casters in the primary goal of MP i.e. killing enemies, a lot of powers and power combos need to be reevaluated just as urgently as uncommon weapons do. Perhaps more. But I applaud your efforts.

I was going to write a more comprehensive thread that covered all the weapons I see as DESPERATELY needing changes.

However, an extiriemely abrasive person from another thread made me feel the need to post a thread on this before I was ready for the other topics.

I love the Raptor, it just feels good to use. Unfortunately it does do inferior damage. Its only saving grace is that it does not have a hip-fire penalty. Do you factor that into your calculations?

Feels like a weaker scoped mattlock. it needs a damage buff and a weight reduction. it dose weak damage the pistols and the weak ar's can do its job but better. and thats saying something.

It does have a rate of fire penalty! It does 15% less damage hipfired, according to community testing.

It still doesn't really do more damage hipfired then the Indra does per second (Due to its hipfire accuracy being less then half as good as the indras,) or the Mattocks (Due to the Mattock having NO penalty, doing more damage, and firing faster..)

The Arc pistol and the Eagle....

Do I need to explain those ones as well?

Interesting fact! Due to the way its rate of fire was capped, it cannot benifit from rate of fire increases!

The Eagle is held down by it's awful accuracy (and recoil to some extent). On paper, yes the damage output is very similar to the Raptor (if you've been unlucky enough to have a high level Eagle already). In practice, try pulling off as many fast headshots with it as with the Raptor in mid-long range. Overall the Raptor is a more effective weapon.

At the very least they should lower the weight of the Raptor. It's quite severely outclassed by the Mattock right now.

This

The Raptor is a great uncommon, and the prince of silver, where it will still give you your chain headshots.
I'm sure we will get more guns in another dlc, better, faster, stronger. More exciting.  They will be gold and UR rarity.
RIP raptor

The only thing it really should be comparable to in that list is the Mattock.

I played with the Eagle Earlier today...... I found its accuracy to be far better then what its crosshairs report it as being, and its recoil no worse then the Tempest its technical DPS matches.

It is technically weaker due to the fact that nobody has it at level X currently.

Uchimura wrote...

Its still technically weaker then the two 'worst' weapons in the metagame right now, with both them weighing less then it!

It does weigh a lot more, and is a lot harder to use then the Indra, I will admit, so it actually should be far stronger.
So I understand your point there. ;)

I love the Raptor, I almost used it today, but... well, it's just not a competitive option, anymore.

But if there's anyone that can pull this off, it's you, Sir Rokayt!
