I'm worried with Mass Effect film. All game films are mostly always bad.

any attempt to create a cannon shep will end in failure. if is a male shep all the female fans will cry sexism the male fans will call bull**** if female the reverse is true (not trying to ****** anyone off but in today's world just about anything can set thouse types of people off), if shep is paragon all the renegade fans will cry discrimination, and if there is any romance scenes or any hint of sexuality in the movie then fox news will call it a porno.
for any chance of success is to do a prequel or behind the scenes stuff during the trilogy that Shep didn't see or know about and even then its iffy because some people will **** and say it sucks just over the me3 ending fiasco(not saying that the ending was good or bad just that there was a issue)

i should imagine cinemagoers will be thrilled at the prospect of sitting through a movie, only to be baffled by the sudden appearence of star brat offering 3 different colour choices which make no sense.

If they went the prequel route, I hope that we would see something more like Mass Effect Evolution rather than Mass Effect Homeworlds.

Actually, when I think about it, I think that Evolution would be the best story to be turned into a movie, then you could follow it with something based off Ascension, and maybe Invasion.
That would give a fairly good story arc that even most Mass Effect players haven't experienced.

So in other words, having "Mass Effect" on your resume ends careers, and the film is canceled? Got it.

sorry fresh out of gasoline...:innocent:

was there actually a single game-based movie that is actually good?

not just decent (like Tomb Raider, the first Mortal Kombat, Postal) but actually good.

a movie that even non-gamers could enjoy?

can't recall there ever being one...

Since Resident Evil made Hollywood enough money to spawn several sequels, that might be the only video game titled movie. And as mentioned earlier in the thread they butchered it but people still go see them.

Silent Hill was very good. Doom isn't nearly as people say. Mortal Kombat was good too.

you never know, maybe it could make itself a movie that will beat all the rest. Set a new standard for the mass effect trilogy and also the movie industry. What do you all think?

This game has incredible potential for a trilogy, of course, if done right. But what is "right"?
They focus on what made the game great: characters. But you know Hollywood won't, bc when they make action movies, there is almost zero character development bc they pander to the instant gratification, left-side-of-the-bell-curve moviegoers...so we, the true fans, will get shi'ite.
If they make it more of a drama and less of an action movie, that would be much better...but here's the kicker: they've put out comments that the movie WON'T be based on the game...WTF?
(Massive facepalm)
Why? For Christ's sake, the script/screenplay has practically been written for you?
It's this simple: Watch the 'theatrical trailers' for the game release about 1,000 times, watch the watch the you tube videos with dialogue excerpts, watch youtube videos making fun of characters to learn their shortcomings, go out into the desert with 4-5 friends and eat some really good mushrooms, then come back and write the screen play. Cast the voice actors as the real ACTORS (with the exception of Shep of course)...How hard can it be????

I still hold to my belief that it should be a TV show.

There's too much content and too many factors for it to be a film trilogy. I prefer the idea of seeing certain events (Like virmire, or Rannoch, or Earth) in episodes rather than a snipped down, watered down version. ME, with the exception of MMOs, may be the biggest, most eventful game trilogy ever.

People argue that it would suck as a TV series, but after seeing Revolution, Walking Dead, and the many other fantasy action shows out there, I have hope that it would be fantastic.

Just my opinion

im with ya.  A well done tv series would giveore character depth. And the ability to explore moments and a universe that a 2.5 hr movie just can't do.

I agree, a TV show would be the best fit, especially the 13 episode per season format:
  • Season 1 is gonna be ME1
  • Season 2 is ME2 with the recruitment of your crew up until the Collector attack on Horizon
  • Season 3 is the rest of ME2 with all the loyalty missions and ends with the Suicide Mission
  • Season 4 starts with Arrival, proceeds with LotSB, maybe some flashback episodes (how Jack Harper became the Illusive Man, how Liara procured Shepard's body), then Shepard finally has to go back to Earth to face charges because of Arrival and the season ends with Shepard leaving Earth after the Reapers attack
  • Season 5 starts with Priority Mars, then comes curing the genophage, contains the content of the Omega DLC and ends with the Cerberus Coup on the Citadel
  • Season 6 starts with the retake of the Quarian homeworld, contains the content of Leviathan DLC and ends with the deployment of the Crucible.
Or scratch Season 4, integrate LotSB into Season 2 or 3 and make Arrival into a stand-alone "movie" that is released between two seasons. ike Battlestar Galactica did with Razor. Would probably make more sense from a dramaturgy standpoint.

in regard to the femshep/broshep they could film all the shephard scenes once with each gender and hopefully movie theaters will have upgraded to dual view technology by then. if you want femshep you sit on the left of the theater if you want broshep you sit on the right *.

*as long as shephard doesn't talk or else everyone would need headphones to hear their shepard

"I like to expect the worst, there's a small chance I'll be pleasantly surprised."
-You should know who

We already have the games, the movie will at least be fun to watch.
To me it's really irrelevant if it's good or not, if it's good, it shall give me the cinematic satisfaction of the mass effect story I desire. And if it's bad, it's noncanon and doesn't matter.
The Mass Effect movie really should be in 3D. That would surely make it worth the effort.

There are several reasons for that. One is that film producers often pick games that are well known but don't translate well to the screen, like Super Mario Bros or Mortal Kombat. An other reason is that they often let bad filmmakers work on those projects.

I can't think of any video game to film adaptation where the universe is as rich as the one from Mass Effect. If they can get the right people to work on it, it may turn out to be a decent film.

Have you guys heard of Red Sand? Sounds like a great indie movie even starring Mark Meer... Oh sorry the thread was about the horrible sounding live action movie based on ME1? I'll ignore it.

That would be ... boring, because i know what happens next. Also it would establish a canonshepard. Do you want this to happen?

Better come up with a new story. Same universe, new story. Risky, but the PrizZe!

Lots of people play the Mass Effect games over and over again, although they already know the story. And I have no problem with a CanonShep, as it's only gonna be canon for the TV/movie adaptation. I don't see how my enjoyment of the games is reduced by having one possible story put to film.

And don't forget that there are lots of people who don't know ME. I think a TV series would be very enjoyable, even for someone who already played the games. People watch Game of Thrones, Harry Potter etc., even though they already read the books.

And if they come up with a new story, they better make a game out of it. Otherwise implications... unpleasant;)

Probably will never happen.

Or maybe they are waiting for Bay to finish wrecking Transformers and then Ninja Turtles so he can have a go at Mass Effect?
