I've already played in silver and bronze in this way to make money and not spend any consumables, not hard, is discipline.

No.  It has apparently been renamed to "squad goal" and the need for the whole team to participate has already been confirmed.

Correct. The squad (whether 1, 2, 3 or 4 person squads) cannot use consumables.

omfg! awesomeness. dont mind missle glitchers but the added challenge of no consumables would rock! even though i pay for them.... 60000 creds a pop. i got a problem......

To be absolutely sure you get the Squad goal, I would recommend either:

a) Solo a Bronze match.

Play only with trusted friends.

Since most of my ME3 buddies have moved on, I'll be taking Option A this weekend. Shouldn't be too hard, since I have 3 options:

1. Shadow vs Cerberus
2. Kroguard vs Geth
3. Vorcha (with Reegar) vs Reapers

tried a test run with Krogan Sentinel vs reapers was able to get it done even with a wave 10 hack (had 8 lift grenades and let fly when the banshee and brutes arrived)

other objectives were Delivery (wave 3) and Assasination (wave 6)

4. Check at the end of the game that no one has used consumables

There is chat but through microphone. Key typing would not be very efficient especially when things get hot on the battlefield.

However, not everyone in PUGs are up for voice chatting...

I meant chat only in the lobby. During the games it would be impossible.
