I was at work last night, and randomly did some math on the Sentinel. The results were surprising, and I thought I'd share.
Base Recharge Speeds at Rank 1
Throw - 4 seconds
Cryo Blast - 6 seconds
Warp/Overload - 8 seconds
Recharge Speed at Rank 1 with Tech Armor and Barrier/Fortification/Defense Matrix off
These numbers are with a 200% Weight Capacity bonus, the Inferno Armor, and 1 piece of intel giving a 5% boost to Power Recharge Speed
Throw - 1.19 seconds
Cryo Blast - 1.79 seconds
Warp/Overload - 2.39 seconds
Recharge Speed at Rank 1 with Tech Armor on (no Power Recharge evolution)
Throw - 1.57 seconds
Cryo Blast - 2.35 seconds
Warp/Overload - 3.14 seconds
Recharge Speed at Rank 1 with Barrier/Fortification/Defense Matrix on (no Power Recharge evolution)
Throw - 1.45 seconds
Cryo Blast - 2.18 seconds
Warp/Overload - 2.91 seconds
Recharge Speed at Rank 1 with both Tech Armor and Barrier/Fortification/Defense Matrix on (no Power Recharge evolutions)
Throw - 2.05 seconds
Cryo Blast - 3.08 seconds
Warp/Overload - 4.10 seconds
Now, according to my information, you can get the following Dynamic Bonuses:
Weight Capacity - 200%
Armor - 50%
Intel - 20%
Squadmate* - 10%
Plugging those into the equation results in the following recharge times for the Sentinel while both Tech Armor and a defensive bonus skill are turned on (again, without the Power Recharge evolutions) :
Throw - 1.6 seconds
Cryo Blast - 2.5 seconds
Warp/Overload - 3.33 seconds
Throw in the Power Recharge evolutions, and those drop to the following:
Throw - 1.3 seconds
Cryo Blast - 2.0 seconds
Warp/Overload - 2.66 seconds
* Liara and Tali both have a rank 6 Squad Bonus evolution that increases recharge speed of a particular type of power by 10%. Liara covers Biotics, and Tali covers Tech.
So it is actually possible to have 50 to 70 percent damage resist as a Sentinel, but still use your powers as your primary offense. So the Biotic Bomber is gimping themselves power-wise not by taking two defensive powers, but by taking a full weapon loadout!
Interesting

Holy crap. That is just... holy crap.
And with the Punisher SMG (Firefight Weapon Pack DLC) using the Lightweight Materials mod or a good hard-hitting pistol such as the Paladin/Carnifex ,Scorpion, or Talon using the Ultra Lightweight Materials mod (Leviathan DLC), you can still have a great hard-hitting weapon that does not weigh very much. If you actually want to shoot. You can probably avoid shooting anyway with most squadmates.
Great find.

Blew my mind when I realized it.

I said this without numbers a long time ago. Most people just continued their gimped cooldown argument, which just made me think they never really tried it...
The 50% DR build is incredibly versatile though. Is covers all bases and has the weight capacity to carry some pretty nice firepower.

One nice thing about the two defensive power setup is the stacking of Power Synergy upgrades. Makes your powers hit really, really hard. For that reason, I would actually go with Barrier instead of Defense Matrix.

I agree. I've been running barrier since I unlocked it. Defense matrix unfortunately only boosts tech. I guess thats the trade off for it having a far better trigger effect than barrier but for me, once I activate the defensive powers I never touch them again so...no loss.

Defense Matrix is nice for it's shield restoration when you turn it off, which is why everyone likes it, but for those who leave it on and never turn it off (like you and me), Barrier is better.

The base cooldowns are short enough that Tech Armor isn't a huge deal. It only makes the cooldown times painfully long if you load up the weapon weight.
I only took a couple guns on my Sentinel for a lot of missions. But you are flexible enough that you can go Bomber with a lot of guns if you want, even if it isn't necessary.

Yep. My Sentinel has 2 armor powers (Tech Armor and Barrier), both speced for full damage resistance, and with a 200% weapon cooldown my powers cooldowns are still very manageable. Weapon wise i either just use the Punisher SMG with Heat Sink + Extended Mag, or the Wraith and the Punisher SMG with Heat Sink + ULM.

I added a link to this thread from Kronner's thread so people can see that you can still use powers even with two shield powers activated. Once again, great work swk3000.

I'm thinking of going for this build
Is it any good?
I want a sentinel who has:
Decent weapon damage,
Decent tanking
Amazing power damage
Reasonable cooldowns. (If a cooldown is any more than 6 seconds, it is unreasonable. Since I want to perform a lot of tech bursts and biotic explosions)
Powers:
Throw Level 6: Radius, Detonate, Double Throw
Warp Level 6: Detonate, Lasting Damage, Pierce
Lift Grenades Level 6: Radius, Max Grenades, Damage & Radius
Tech Armour Level 6: Durability, Power Damage, Power Recharge
Overload Level 6: Chain, Neural Shock, Chain
Cryo Blast Level 4: Radius
Fitness Level 6: Health & Shields, Shield Recharge, Health & Shields
Offensive Mastery Level 6: Force & Damage, Weight, Bonus
Warp Ammo Level 6: Damage, Headshots, Enhanced Warp
Weapons: Upgraded to at least level V
Tempest SMG with extended barrel and extended clip
Mattock Assault Rifle with shredder mod and scope
Armour Bonuses:
Umbra Visor + 10% power damage.
Serrice Council Chest + 10% power damage
Serrice Council Shoulder Pads: + 10% power damage
Serrice Council Gauntlets: + 10% power damage
Serrice Council Greaves: + 10% power damage
Shadowbroker Bonuses:
Focus mainly on power damage.
Squadmates:
Bring Liara/Kaidan and Javik against reapers.
Bring Ashley/EDI and Tali against Geth
Bring Garrus and Liara/James against Cerberus
