I believe the article says something about no games without some sort of online connectivity, not necessarily no singleplayer games.

You omitted this sentence:
That seems pretty much to refer to multiplayer, as well as the rest he mentions, which I assume go together these daysI have not green lit one game to be developed as a singleplayer experience
The rumor regarding DA3 multiplayer has already been going around for some time, I pretty much consider it a done deal. And people might want to ´google up´ on Mr. Gibeau, he has more interesting things to say.
Regarding PopCap, for instance.

It is annoying, but it's not the end of the world. As long as they realise that to get the online stuff to generate the largest amount of money for them, the basic single player game needs to be good enough to win sales in the first place. ME3 multiplayer is likely self-financing, the only problem is the stupid connection to EMS.

'idgaf'. A single player game should have all the resources at its disposal used to make the single player experience better. I don't care if random dude #34341314 knows about my ''achievement'' points or not, that's not why I play the game for and that's definitely not why I would pay for a game. Nor do I care for co-op or multiplayer in a story-driven RPG game, because that ruins the immersion and the pace of the game.
Works as long as you keep mp and sp mostly sperate and only have minor things like bonus customization and 1 or 2 unlock able items be shared.

But think about it. Other EA games, like The Sims? Doubt that's going to be a multiplayer game anytime soon considering how The SIms Online went. It has a lot of online elements though, like social networking crap and SimPort and whatnot. I think he's talking about that rather than MP.
I mean, yeah, I think DA3 will have MP. I don't have a problem with that.

But yeah, as long as there is a single player campaign AS WELL - and one that isn't skimped on too much, then no biggie. And frankly, after the backlash of DA2, I don't think Bioware would dare release DA3 as anything other than polished to a flawless shine.

I think you guys are looking too much into it. SP games will still exist. Bioware will still make SP experiences. EA isn't that dumb. Some people are SP only players and they want that marketshare.
Considering you can buy $5-$15 games today bigger than most $60 games, this is one way to make $60 games more attractive. They need to be bigger and better in every way. Why pay $60 on a 6-hour experience when you can get the same from a $15 game? I think more $60 games will be like Skyrim with massive size now. Big budgets will have to show. Putting extensive SP+MP components in games will make them far more attractive.
It doesn't necessarily have to take away from the SP budget either. Maybe they just expanded the budget to add MP. If they had no MP, the budget wasn't going to get extended. Anybody ever think like that? As long as SP team isn't devoting their time and resources into MP, I don't really care. The ME3 team didn't put their effort in MP. It was designed by the Montreal studio, not Edmonton.
I mean, even a game like Last of Us is going to have MP. It's just the evolution the gaming industry is going. $60 products need to be more attractive in this economy...

I don't know why this is shocking to anybody. SP only games are getting very rare these days. Especially under a major publisher umbrella. Assassin's Creed even has MP and it's terrible. Nobody even plays the MP like they're suppose to. Everyone just sits on a roof and rakes experience/kills up.

I think that's inevitable anyway. The way the current market trend is going. Would you complain if EA put a formula in that split the product up in two payments? $30 for SP and $30 for MP? Meaning, you can choose what you want?
That would make the game far cheaper on people who don't want MP crammed down their throat. Based on how the industry is moving the MTs/F2P and just cheaper games in general, it wouldn't shock me to see something like this.
Everything doesn't have to be gloom and doom.

With their awful servers, what do you expect? It'll be a cold day in hell if we see an EA game with nothing to do with online.
Speaking of awful servers...it baffles me how such a mega corporation has the worst servers in the industry. To top it all off, they kill their own games because they force horrible user experiences. I wonder how Bioware feels operating on EA servers knowing when each community goal happens, the servers will lag like crazy...
And they can't do anything about it, apparently...
And I highly doubt it's on Bioware's end because any game with EA servers lags like crazy. I always love the rubberband lag in BF3 or their sports games...

As long it doesn't affect single player or is required to get certain scenarios (*cough!*) I have no problem with multiplayer in DA III.
Ditto!
Meanwhile Ubisoft abandons always-on DRM in PC titles
Ubisoft’s worldwide director for online games Stephanie Perotti announced the big news in a particularly hard-hitting interview with Rock, Paper, Shotgun, saying that the company has been listening to feedback from players and has decided to ditch the controversial form of digital rights management. Hopefully this decision sticks, because while always-on DRM may make investors happy, it certainly has the opposite effect on paying customers.
Bioware late in the trend as usual

Hell even bioware's mmo was really just a single player game with some mp side content.
Ha so true. I played SWTOR for the single player experience.
