This has come up because a very high up EA exec has very proudly and stupidly declared that under his watch EA has not released a "Singleplayer only" game; and under his continued watch it would NEVER release a single player only game.

Bioware is a division of EA as we keep being told.

Thus the panic about "OMG! Is DA3 going to have a boring shoehorned in Multiplayer like ME3 did?"

Which is interesting primarily due to the fact that this is something EA has said repeatedly and publicly many times to date-- all their games must have a multiplayer or online component (requirements which even DA2 satisfied). And both Mike and Mark have also spoken several times about their intention to have some form of multiplayer in the DA franchise, if not details as to what form it will take.

So, curiosity about that? Sure. Concern? Maybe, if you had anxiety about how that was going to be implented within DA, though that isn't going to be explained anytime soon-- I'm sure opinions on how you'd like to see it done are far more welcome than assumptions, though. Shock and panic? I have no idea why, unless someone wasn't paying attention.

Sir, with all due respect.  Do you not understand that by changing any element of any of your games in any way invites doom and dispair?  All Bioware games must be exact clones of all their predecessors otherwise the fabric of reality might unravel and the denizens of the nightmare realms will come boiling out.  Hypothetically adding multiplayer to DA3 will ruin all things forever.  Good day!

And BioWare going in a complete new direction was a very successful idea. So successful that DA2 & ME3 were considered by many (if not all) to be the best product ever done by BioWare.

I hear that if you yell loudly enough on the Internet you get something that almost sounds like consensus.

Some of us are operating under the assumption that EAWare has released a good game since the release of ME2, which I believe is a mistake.

Yet Mike and Mark have already said it will happen, in some form. So if what someone wants is "no multiplayer component at all", then they are categorically not getting what they want. Time to move on.

I wasn't aware of such explicit confirmation of multiplayer in DA3.

And well, we'll probably move on sometime after we give up on a silent protagonists, I'm afraid.

You guys are really stupid. I don't understand why you would consistently argue with someone who has basically put himself through his creativity into something for people to enjoy and you just tell him it sucks. It's like if I baked you a cake for your birthday and I put a lot of effort into it and you're like "sry bro, the cake u made me 3 yrs ago was better."

Any rpg that isn't single player only, 2d and isometric is an automatic failure and affront to humanity.

Does the cake cost $60? If so, then I expect that cake to be awesome.

But if someone puts dark chocalate on your cake and you only like milk, it makes sense to say "hey, I prefer milk chocalate".  Particularly if they declare that your birthday cakes from now on will only have dark chocalate.

(Also, I don't pay for my birthday cakes)

Plus when they say that alot of people found the older cake was too big for them to eat so now on you can have a cupcake (same price of course).

Oh, it's fine. No need to defend me. They're free to not like the cake.

If they think that throwing it on the ground, stomping on it and then insulting our mother is a good way to convince us to bake them a new one, however, they've probably spent too much time on the Internet and forgotten how to talk to people who are people and not forum jockeys impressed by their internet tough guy act. But whatever.

Some people mistake the forums for a congregation. I'm here to express my opinion in the least hostile matter. It's a work in progress.

You are all fools! Fools I say! Everyone knows that pie, specifically cherry pie, is the superior birthday treat! I'm pretty sure I can turn this into some kind of deeply layered metaphor concerning the trollish nature of the BSN community but right now I'm hungry with all this food talk.

...I don't pay £60 for a cake. Especially not one which was missing ingredients.

It does cost $60, but I spent more than a year trying to make you a good cake. I spent long days in the kitchen, debating chocolate or red velvet- I hand drew all of the cake decorations and spent late nights trying to perfect it. But then my boyfriend told me I had to hurry up because we needed the $60 like yesterday, so I had to kind of finish it off to the best of my ability really quickly. I tried really hard to make something you'd love, but of course you're not required to buy it if you don't like it.

Oh nevermind. This allegory is quickly becoming redic, even to me. lol.

I've always thought the main problem with cakes was the multiplayer component. I don't want to share, it should be all mine!

So is everyone required to bring their own birthday cake to your birthday since you don't want to share? ;)

...Now I want cake damn it.

See, now I'm confused. I always thought the cake was a lie, but you make a very good point. NO SHARING.

Depends on the cake, if you were handed a bowl of badly mixed butter, sugar and eggs (bits of shell left in) and were told to eat it, you wouldn't be happy, especially after paying for that bowl of sugar, eggs and butter.

Multiplayer component confirmed? The game itself isn't even confirmed yet, so that's surprising news to me. Regardless of how it's implemented.

Things are coming together even quicker than I had anticipated.

I'm not worried yet, there are plenty of great single player games with multiplayer like Metroid Prime 2.

Because I KNOW I'm not hearing any rumblings of DA3 having multiplayer. Nope. Its definitely not true. I mean it can't be true...

Right BioWare???

Like seriously, if this is true I've lost all hope.

I'd suggest not panicking until the game is at least announced. Until that happens, I'm afraid we're not going to elaborate on or clarify anything.

Unless you'd prefer to assume the worst, and assume the lack of information to the contrary means the worst must be true-- in which case, by all means panic. ;)
