How to get more points in multiplayer?

How do you get lots of points? Everyone usually has more of the badges than me, is that the main thing – to focus on the badges? If so, is there a list of them somewhere with how many points they’re worth? Or is it basically bodycount, just focus on that? And if so, focus on the bosses, or focus on crowd control? Or is it something else?
I KNOW points is not the be all and end all, just starting to feel like I’m letting my side down a bit. I only play bronze, and at this rate I’ll never be ready to try silver

Edit: Example - Lobbing an Arc nade in a group of enemies.

I was surprised at the amount of lvl20 kro guards there this weekend.
Your Vorcha sentinel should be able to rack in the points easily on bronze with a flamer that has range, damage and armour damage

Kills are not 100% for-sure worth more than assists. If you did the bulk of the damage to an enemy (say only one health bar is left) and someone landed the killing blow, you will get the majority of the points as an Assist.
Badges help but are usually not a huge amount of points. Also, using your missiles will give you a lower amount of points for kills than if you had used conventional weapons/powers.
I'd say 40,000 in Bronze is pretty good. I usually play Silver and I've seen people score less than that (sometimes both 3rd and 4th). But again, points don't matter.

Just concentrate on killing things and medals will come of their own accord. Killing things is good, killing things faster is better, as it nets you more points in the time allotted. Don't waste time, and this isn't just about points, it's about finished the game quicker. Sometimes it behooves you to get up and bring the fight to the enemy rather than waiting for them to come to you.
If you think you're ready to up your game you need to figure out which builds are the most effective. For an extreme example a GI with a Claymore does insane DPS. Also a Quarian Male Engineer can spawn bomb with an Arc Grenade and follow up with incinerate and wipe everything at the spawn in two seconds.
It's all about clearing the map as efficiently as possible. If it will speed things up, use the missile launcher. For example if you get Eliminate the Targets on Wave 10, run up and nuke the target as soon as it spawns.
Just out of curiosity, what build do you normally use?
Edit: Bronze, btw is a lolfest to see who can run the map and wipe everything as fast as possible. It makes it hard to learn to play. Whether you feel ready or not, you should move to Silver. If you want friendly people to learn with, find some here on the forums. If you're on the PC I'll play Silver with you: Origin ID: bclagge

When I play I am often doing strings of different attacks in constant succession, almost always shooting/using powers, meleeing, etc. I'm constantly looking for that red targeting box.
Improvement came down to playing a lot, getting better stuff from the slot machine/store, and trial and error with finding the character/weapon combos that worked great for me.
I was once very intimidated by silver, so don't feel bad about that!

First, don't stress over points. They are meaningless on an individual basis. As long as you are contributing that's all that matter.

Thank you for advice and reassurance. I don’t really stress that much but I was using my points to gauge when I’m ready for silver, that’s what’s worrying me a bit. This multiplayer is awesome, I love it. But the most addictive thing about it is seeing progress, like new unlocks and basically getting better at it!

You know all characters in the same class share skill points, and you don't have to promote one to play the other right? If I'm not sure how to spec a new character, I'll try some of the powers at 3 in bronze before taking them to 5/6.
Also, playing support is NOT a bad thing.

Points are based on damage done, so getting the final shot doesn't necessarily net you more points. However health is weighted heavier than shields, so stripping shields doesn't get you too many points.

That’s very cool, I am on PS3 but appreciate the offer. I don’t actually know where the spawn points are on most maps, usually I hear gunfire and run to back my guys up but the carnage is mostly finished when I arrive.
Am still experimenting with different classes but so far am enjoying Human Engineer and N7 Demolisher the most. I also have a Quarian Infiltrator that I love. They’re def my favourite 3
Ok I’ll give silver a go, not too bothered about getting owned but I do worry about letting my squad down, that I don’t want to do

The keys I found to scoring well in terms of kills/damage output include: weapon(s) you find easy to use that can put down all kinds of enemies quickly (some weapons take practice to master), and characters/builds tailored to your preference that also compliment your choice of weapons.

I was wondering whether the best way to do it is to find someone you can chain powers with, then run round the map setting off explosions?? That's how I played the single player, is that something people are doing in multiplayer?

I don't think this is true. I am pretty sure the killing shot gives a lot more points that any other shot doing the same damage that does not kill something, particularly a big target like an Atlas.

Just my thing, I like to play a character from level 1 and see them get dangerous over the course of a few games. I find it really satisfying

After we get over the points are meaningless thing-- several points.
1) Multiplayer has been out for a long time. Most players have a ton of great gear now. It will be extremely difficult to compete pointwise. More imortantly you should focus on not being a hindrance to the team-- your goal should be helping with objectives and dying as little as possible.
2) The best weapon on your manifest is your hurricane 2 by a long shot.Give that to your Turian soldier, spec marksman and crank up the kills, Your other alternative at this point is to play a power based class such as adept or engi since they don't need rare/ultra rare weapons to kick ass.
3) Get out of Bronze.
4) If you want to see a nice score without rare gear: step 1: Pick human sentinel 2: hit target with warp 3: hit target with throw 4: watch explosions and kill feed 5: rinse, repeat.

Having said that, there are certain classes/weapons/skills that net a lot of points, and it really depends on what everyone else on your team is using, and then also on enemy type.
Just don't worry about it.

I don't usually play biotics but yes, explosions are very effective. I usually do weapon-oriented characters.
I'm on PS3, my ID is loli_sykes, if you would like I can play some rounds with you.
Bronze will be a piece of cake to you soon, trust me
