Talking to people usually makes me fear for the future of mankind.
Usually.

Some one has a mic and next thing you know, they're giving a commentary of the battle; disrupts my concentration. How about adding a typing interface ?

Most of the time when I'm playing, the group does fine and only speaks when necessary and to give a heads-up on if someone's got some Big Bads headed their way.
If you have time to talk, you're not killing enough.
The exception being if we're B**ching about other sh** or playing a theme-match and working in our lines between gigglefits.

1. I only speak when there is a need to, like a Banshee from behind, Phantom coming in from the corner, etc.
2. English isn't my primary language, and while I have little to no difficulty expressing myself in the forums, talking the language can be very different. And then there was the time someone mocked me over it.

A person is smart, kind, and reasonable. People are stupid, rude, and annoying. There are too many people on the internet.

Sometimes I just don't feel like talking. Other times no one else is talking. Most the time though, no one else says anything so I just give up. Plus my mic has a bad habit of squealing sometimes and I only know if someone says something.

Almost always keep mic on for both Xbox and PC. I usually don't say much unless it's to give a heads up or something, but I'm pretty sure the other players aren't listening the majority of the time. Every once in awhile there will be some other talkers where we actually communicate and have fun. Other times, people's mics are messed up and cause feedback, are heavy mouth breathers, are making weird noises, listening to bad music, talking to people outside the game or get super-duper chatty. In most of those situations (always on Xbox) I just rip the headset off

Socially awkward, for one. Not much to talk about either.
Not to mention, anonymity makes for some really rude people in online gaming. When I do have it on, the last thing people usually want to talk about is strategy.

Same issue with me, if bioware would have worked on the text chat system better i could communicate (need console for text chat but its small and only up for 3 seconds + ban risk cause of dev console) ither PC players i assume just used to type to other people and never owned a mic i guess.

My mic will usually be plugged in, but I forget to turn it on and just end up talking to myself the whole match.
I am the opposite.
I leave it on and talk to people about random stuff that I never intended on them hearing.
ah man yes. if nobody else is talking, i find myself rambling about all kinds of things just talking to myself.... then i'll realize - oh crap... they may well hear me over their speakers. then five minutes later start all over again ... "ah...damn phantom...sneakysonofa...gonna go here...ammo....ugh not looking forward to work today.....wonder if my coffee has cooled off.... hmm.. SLURP... oh crap atlas..."
and i really wish more people would. my experiences with mics are either friends.... silence.... or a-holes who want to yell at everybody else. Also, there's the guy who is narrating the whole match and nobody else is talking ... and he's talking way too much (that's probably me, isn't it... damn)... but if people would just pipe up - then we could actually have a social experience. i work. i have kids. i don't get out much and rarely see my friends. it's nice to talk to OTHER people isntead of my wife, preschooler, and coworkers that i [anywhere from hate to tolerate].

I'm a talker. With friends, we all know what we're doing so we're generally talking complete b0llocks through the whole match. In pugs I know that's annoying, so I keep it to situational stuff and thanking people for revives.
It can be great though - I was in a 2-person party last night and noticed a random's mic icon flashing, so I ended the party to see if he was telling us to ready the **** up or just saying hello. He was N7 20-something with a level 18 Human Vanguard, and wanted to try gold. We were fine with that, but said we wouldn't be farming, we'd be going for it.
He wasn't sure what Nova was, or which weapons were good, but after a couple of minutes we hit Glacier/Cerberus/Gold and had a great match. Explained wave budgets, good Novaguard tactics, spawn management etc, and ended up adding him to our friends list afterwards. Talking can be good!

Generally no one else uses mics. And the people who do are generally people who make my brain hurt with their stupidity. I also generally don't care what anyone has to say, anyway. :/

Strategy is a strategical weakness... waaaaait.
I myself well i do love talking but I can't form the right sentences while under stress.
So I end up talking gibberish and saying the word uuuuuh... a lot.

I'm good enough in Gold to not need communication.
Also, i suck at speaking english, it's not my 1st language.

I always have my headset on and I do enjoy listening to legitimate random conversations between people, even in Russian. But if it's obvious that the randoms are vocalising just to get attention, I mute them. I like listening, but I don't join any random conversations with strangers, only if they seem nice and genuinely wanting better teamwork in the game.

I talk with people on my friends list, and turn my mic on during matches if other people are on the mics communicating.

I'm usually not on mic unless someone else in the gameroom has a headset on. If there is one situation where I feel awkward, it's being on mic when I'm the only one on it, lol.
But as far as the whole not using the mic at all thing, and feeling awkward on it, I used to be like this for a while. It took me a while to start using it but now I'm fairly comfortable on the mic. Eventually using my mic and talking with other players was so much more fun for me then when I didn't use a mic. I'm not really a big social person by any means so I'm kinda surprised I talk on mic as much as I do sometimes
.
Of course you are always gonna run into idiots on mic every now and then but, for the shy folks, don't let that discourage you. Many of the people I've played with that have mics on this MP were good people and fun to play with!
