Caveat: I don't normally collect action figures so my opinions may differ from a true afficiado.

I received the 3 released Play Arts Kai figures today. I would have posted pictures, but I wasn't happy with the pictures my cell phone took. I'll try to borrow a real camera and see if I can get some better shots.

My first impression of the figures is that the paintaing doesn't quite look like the box sample pictures or online pictures. When I first saw MShep's head, I thought it was UndeadShep due to the paleness of the head and the dark circles under the eyes. Ashley's head also looks slightly off, specifically the hair bangs. However, Garrus still looks like he took a rocket to the face. To give kudos where it is due, the MShep armor looks to be nicely textured and compares very well to the box art armor.

I only opened Garrus's package --- I'm not sure if I'm going to open the others or keep them mint --- since a co-worker of mine has the Big Fish version. I'm definately going to try to take a side-by-side picture. The Play Arts Garrus is about 8" / 20cm tall, so he appears fairly impossing.

Once I had Garrus unwrapped, the first thing that I noticed is that getting to pose standing up straight is "difficult" to say the least. His feet appear to have no heels, so he has to be balanced on the ball of his feet. I had him standing straight a few times, but it wouldn't take long for him to tip over.

One thing that I liked about Garrus (and the others) is that the weapons that come with them are instantly recognizable and are very well done. I didn't have too much difficult in getting Garrus to carry his Vindicator in a "battle ready" posture.

One thing that surprised me was the total lack of a Bioware code in the package --- there is no way to register on this web site that you've actually purchased these toys. Considering that the Dark Horse miniatures, Kotobukiya statue, and Big Fish toys all had these codes, it had me wondering if these were properly licensed toys.

Bearing in mind that I pre-ordered these as soon as they were announced, and was eargerly anticipating them, I have to say that if I had to do it over again, I'd probably pass on these. These figures simply cost too much given their quality. Maybe my expectactions where too high --- the Liara statue cost just about the same as one of these figures and the quality of that statue beggars these action figures --- but my advice is for ME fans is to skip and look at other collectibles instead.

(Note: Maybe I really like my Liara because Ali Hillis was kind enough to autograph it Posted Image)

I just ordered a stand for them. Once I get that in and I can pose them on it, I'll take some pictures and post them.

Garrus just does *not* want to stand up on his own.

Does the Kai Leng figure come with cheat codes that make you temporarily invulnerable?

Oh that's disappointing, I really wanted Garrus and I was willing to pay 65 dollars if he was high quality. Where did you buy them from?

I bought them from HLJ.com. They were "low" stock on them last I checked. I paid about 5300 Yen per figure and about 2000 Yen for Fed Ex shipping. That worked out to about $220 USD or $75 per figure. Foreign Transaction fees and shipping rates differ, so YMMW.

I also bought a Bandai Act 5 Action Support Type for Mechanics stand which should arrive Saturday to solve the "doesn't stand up problem".

^ I pre-ordered my ME Play Arts from ToyWiz.com (http://www.toywiz.com/masseffect.html) - the Shepard figure was $59.99, while the Garrus one was $64.99 (also pre-ordered the Tali figure, which was also $64.99).

EDIT: Or you can pre-order them now directly from the BioWare Store for $65 each.

Lucky bastard. Mine are shipping from the UK, and I don't think they'll ship before the 28th of this month so I'm stuck waiting. If you look on eBay though, sellers there are selling them with proper photos of the figures which mean they've started arriving en-masse to retailers.

Now I just have to toss up whether I pre-order the Tali and FemShep at a cheaper price and wait til mid-January for them to ship, or fork out for international shipping on eBay and get them slightly quicker.

Is this similar to how your Shepard's face looks like?

I wish there was a helmet. :(

Maybe you could mod the helmet that comes with the DC Unlimited figure.

Well, the web site that I bought mine from is still not sold out and delivers to most countries. I've dealt with HLJ.com for a lot of years and I have no problems giving them my business.

As I mentioned in previous posts, getting Garrus to stand on his own was impossible, so you'll want to make sure that you order or have a stand on hand.

The stand that I had ordered came in today and I was able to take the above shots. The stand isn't quite ideal --- the waist clasp isn't big enough for Garrus's waist, so there is no way to display him where both feet aren't on the ground. However, the stand was good enough to give him a "On Guard Duty with CSec" pose, which is good enough for now.

Like the rest of my ME3 stuff, they'll just be staying in the box (at least for the time being) so it's not something I'll have to worry about. They'll sit happily on my shelf next to the other ME action figures and my Liara Bishoujo :)

Also, just had a look at HLJ - it's still cheaper for me to just wait a few weeks extra and buy from my usual UK supplier. So I think I shall.

Its exactly the same figure. I've taken it to calling it UndeadShep as that what it looks like. I took him out of his packaging and that lessens the Undead look somewhat but it definately doesn't have the same warmth as the MShep on the game's cover. The head has too much tan and not enough pink tones.

Here's some pics

The guns do look really good as does the armor.

I'm not a pro photographer (obviously) so what you see might not be what you get.

Thank you again Ali Posted Image

I have the insert in the base signed as well. I had thought to get her to sign the white armor on the left leg, but decided at the last second to leave the statue as "mint".

All 3 Figures Side By Side. Yes, Ashley is shorter than MShep, and Garrus is way taller than the others:

And finally, I had promised a side-by-side of the two Garrus figures:

Thanks so much for the comparison shot with the old figures. They are bigger than I thought. Maybe I'll get Garrus after all.
