Damn.
Though I think Garrus and Ashley look fine.

How disappointing.
Also, what the **** is up with the faces?
Why does Liara look like just another big breasted large forehead cute anime girl?
<_<

Liara isn't from that line of figures, though. OP just posted that for comparison purposes, I guess.

I know, but it still bugs the hell out of me.

Correct. I think the Liara figure is a better value for the money than the Play Arts Kai figures.
My opinion of the Play Arts figure has improved a bit since I took them out of the packaging and put them on stands, but the Liara figure is hands down my favorite. See MShep zombie-head, Ashley's blood filled lips, and Garrus's inability to stand as reasons why I don't love the Play Arts figures. The lack of a BioWare code is also an annoyance.
Kotobukiya should be releasing an FemShep statue (in their Bishoujo Line) in Q4 and I'm going to prioritize my money on those over the Play Arts Kai FemShep and Tali figures. I haven't yet cancelled the pre-orders, but it is something that I'm considering.

I'm really torn. I like the looks of Garrus and Ashley for the most part. Debating on whether or not I should just cancel Shepard and HOPE they do a better job with FemShep.
I like the looks of the armor, the articulation and the weapons ... all awesome.
But Shepard's face ... he looks like a transvestite and it's absolutely terrifying.
How they went from the face sculpt that they were advertising, to that finished product is incredibly disappointing.

And Shepard's face looks vaguely horrifying too. Garrus doesn't look like Garrus.
I think I'll skip on these. Only if SideShow does some RAH-figures will I buy ME-figures. Because the detail on those would make sure it looked like the original characters at least.

Which is not so much of a let down for me, as my first play through (the important one) I was a custom femshep anyway, so the default sheps are easily skipped. And Ashley always dies down on Virmire in my games >_>
So the only one left to consider now is Tali...and by the looks of photos they've nerfed her sexy hips.

Is this similar to how your Shepard's face looks like?
I wish there was a helmet.
Looks like a caucasian version of Christopher Judge

The Play Arts figure are ok, but not stunning, but the sculpt could be used as a base for modifications, which I intend to do (my Shep looks nothing like default Shep). Garrus look quite fine, but I'm not sure at all about Ashley - perhaps because I never saw her in ME3.
There's a guy on DeviantArt who's done great modifications of the DC figures, I might see if I can get Ashley and have him mod her with shorter hair and a better face

I'm buying maleShep and Ashley mainly just to support this new line of figures. My heart would be struck with piercing woe if Tali and FeShep did not get produced. :/

The faces look much better in hand than what they look like in the pictures (this included). I only wanted Garrus from this first wave but now that I have Shepard and Ashley in hand, I'm liking them aswell.
EDIT: The N7-sticker is from Walls360.com

Garrus' face sculpt is wonky as all hell. His flesh looks nothing like like in the game, it looks like someone took to carving on his head with a dull knife. I'm going to fill in the dents some and repaint it.
Ashley is pretty good for the most part. The eyes are too big, but I can overlook that.
*the guy has done several custom head sculpts/casts for me before and does stellar work.

I do get why some people are displeased with the face-sculpts and I can not disagree with the criticism. But, in my eyes they look good enough and I am pleased with them. I do hope the face sculpts improve as we get more figures though (here's hoping we get many more figures in the future!). I'll keep on buying these as long as Play Arts keeps making ME-figures.
