Shepard's face ... what the hell...

Damn.

Though I think Garrus and Ashley look fine.

I can't believe not a single Reaper model yet.

How disappointing.

Also, what the **** is up with the faces?

Why does Liara look like just another big breasted large forehead cute anime girl?

<_<

Liara isn't from that line of figures, though.  OP just posted that for comparison purposes, I guess.

Correct. I think the Liara figure is a better value for the money than the Play Arts Kai figures.

My opinion of the Play Arts figure has improved a bit since I took them out of the packaging and put them on stands, but the Liara figure is hands down my favorite. See MShep zombie-head, Ashley's blood filled lips, and Garrus's inability to stand as reasons why I don't love the Play Arts figures. The lack of a BioWare code is also an annoyance.

Kotobukiya should be releasing an FemShep statue (in their Bishoujo Line) in Q4 and I'm going to prioritize my money on those over the Play Arts Kai FemShep and Tali figures. I haven't yet cancelled the pre-orders, but it is something that I'm considering.

^ Really appreciate you taking the time to post these here, though.

I'm really torn. I like the looks of Garrus and Ashley for the most part. Debating on whether or not I should just cancel Shepard and HOPE they do a better job with FemShep.

I like the looks of the armor, the articulation and the weapons ... all awesome.

But Shepard's face ... he looks like a transvestite and it's absolutely terrifying.

How they went from the face sculpt that they were advertising, to that finished product is incredibly disappointing.

Thanks for the info and review i had debated these, i just recently got my Liara Bishoujo Figure on the 7th and i was very impressed with the detail and quality of the figure that said i did feel the 70$ i spent total was a bit much for the size of the figure, I think ill pass on these too and wait for the Shepard Bishoujo so see if its something i want, the artwork picture didnt look very good to me but then the liara artwork didnt look too good to me either but the actual figure looked great so ill wait and see what the actual figure looks like as Bishoujo's art of their figures dosnt seem to match up with the figures themselves.

The Play Arts figure are ok, but not stunning, but the sculpt could be used as a base for modifications, which I intend to do (my Shep looks nothing like default Shep). Garrus look quite fine, but I'm not sure at all about Ashley - perhaps because I never saw her in ME3.

Weird that they're shipping already, but the BioWare store doesn't ship until December.

I saw the faces of the figures. Did not recognize them. Was that supposed to be Ashley's face? Was it as close as they could get? Because that looks more like they took the head of a Barbie and stuck on top of Ashley's armor.
And Shepard's face looks vaguely horrifying too. Garrus doesn't look like Garrus.

I think I'll skip on these. Only if SideShow does some RAH-figures will I buy ME-figures. Because the detail on those would make sure it looked like the original characters at least.

The faces are bad, but the armor and weapons are brilliant. I'd keep them just for those.

I have six of the smaller figures (skipped on both Miranda and Shep because I was unimpressed with their faces) and have just gotten my play arts Garrus a week ago. He's the first doll/figure I have ever bought where I haven't instantly deboxed (and I have a rather decent collection). Dunno what it is, but now that I see he can't stand on his own I'm glad I haven't done so yet. Having seen the faces of the humans in these pictures..yeah I'm skipping both.

Which is not so much of a let down for me, as my first play through (the important one) I was a custom femshep anyway, so the default sheps are easily skipped. And Ashley always dies down on Virmire in my games >_>

So the only one left to consider now is Tali...and by the looks of photos they've nerfed her sexy hips. :(

Thank you for starting this thread. I've pre-ordered the first five figures and haven't yet received the first three. Can I ask what kind of stands did you buy from them and where did you buy the stands from? I'm mentally preparing myself purchasing some stands. :)

Is this similar to how your Shepard's face looks like?

I wish there was a helmet. :(

Looks like a caucasian version of Christopher Judge

There's a guy on DeviantArt who's done great modifications of the DC figures, I might see if I can get Ashley and have him mod her with shorter hair and a better face

Arkevilight - I can so relate! :)

I'm buying maleShep and Ashley mainly just to support this new line of figures. My heart would be struck with piercing woe if Tali and FeShep did not get produced. :/

Sorry for the back2back-post. I received the first three figures last night and I'm very pleased with them. My biggest gripe is that they really can't stand for **** and because of that I ordered some stands this morning. But other than that, they are great.

The faces look much better in hand than what they look like in the pictures (this included). I only wanted Garrus from this first wave but now that I have Shepard and Ashley in hand, I'm liking them aswell.

EDIT: The N7-sticker is from Walls360.com

Shepard's head is just awful. Nothing about it is good. Repainting it would be pointless because it's too small for the body and looks nothing like Sheploo. I'm having a guy sculpt a new head for me. If it turns out well* I'll ask the guy if he wants to sell casts of it for anyone who's interested.
Garrus' face sculpt is wonky as all hell. His flesh looks nothing like like in the game, it looks like someone took to carving on his head with a dull knife. I'm going to fill in the dents some and repaint it.
Ashley is pretty good for the most part. The eyes are too big, but I can overlook that.

*the guy has done several custom head sculpts/casts for me before and does stellar work.

If the new head turns out well, I'd be interested in getting one. So if that guy needs more clients, please feel free to hook us up. :)

I do get why some people are displeased with the face-sculpts and I can not disagree with the criticism. But, in my eyes they look good enough and I am pleased with them. I do hope the face sculpts improve as we get more figures though (here's hoping we get many more figures in the future!). I'll keep on buying these as long as Play Arts keeps making ME-figures. :)

They should have just given Shepard a helmet. Problem solved (possibly a fun idea for your sculptor friend as well).
