But why just one album? I'd grab my MP3 player.

That way I get thousands of songs, instead of, like, 12.

Silly question perhaps, but wouldn't it make more sense just to grab my iPod?

Yes, yes it would, but that's not the point of this thread. The point of this thread is to find out what your all time favourite album is. Sure, I could have just said "What's your all time favourite album" but that would have been a bit boring.
If we're going to nit-pick, I would hope that in reality you wouldn't actually commit an act whereby you'd have to leave everything you know and love behind...

For example, if the island has a mighty medieval castle (sic!) or landscapes that remind me of Tolkien, I'd take Blind Guardian's "A Night at the Opera" or "Nightfall".

If it's an island with very little on it, I'd take some meditative music. Maybe something from Arvo Pärt.
If it's Stalker'ish, I'd take something like Dmitri Schostakovitch. Russian medieval fortresses would que Mussorgski, Russian-like forests - Prokofiev.
If Swedish then Opeth.
(if it's a place with little to no light... more specifically their "Ghost Reveries")

Western urban environment, que Subterranean Masquerade - both albums are superb.

moar
If the place is windy, with lots of precipitation, or futuristically magnificent and allows or requires humor , then I'd choose Devin Townsend's "Ziltoid the Omniscient".

Or I might choose some Susumu Hirasawa, and that goes with everything. Unfortunately the bloke hasn't a good masterpiece-like album. He's more of individual songs.
Right now I'd hope for that medieval-castle type of island.

You really put some thought into this answer. I love it.
