I still see a lot of new players. They might be Mass Effect fans that have been reluctant to try out the MP portion of the game or players completely fresh to it, trying it out because they heard about it from a friend or read about the free DLC. I do think that this game can hold on to the attention of a lot of these players, even with Borderlands 2 and other big titles coming out. There is a problem though. The store.

I like the store. But I have been playing this since day one. Imagine being a completely new player, and realizing how long it would take to unlock the amount of content in this game. And now we're getting another DLC and more content is added to that already huge pool. A DLC pack I suspect might grab the attention of old players that have moved on and new players that are curious.

Now I know that some of you that just like me have been putting in a lot of work to unlock all the stuff in this game, might think it is a bad idea to give new players a lot of stuff. You might think it unjust. But it is in your interest if you want this game to be supported as long as possible. In my opinion new players should get a starter pack consisting of a number of character cards, weapons and even an UR or two. An improved starter pack, much better than the current one.

That would defeat the purpose of making money from packs, one can argue. Well, no one will buy packs with real money if they aren't playing the game. No one will buy packs with real money when they realize just how much money it would take to unlock it all. A starter pack full of stuff to try out could help holding on to the attention of the new players, long enough for them to find out how awesome it is. Then they might consider spending a few dollars on it.

Think about the amount of characters, weapons and gear that's in this game right now. Add to that more stuff from the next DLC. Now picture yourself entering multiplayer for the first time and realizing this. It will surely put a lot of players off.

Is a starter pack full of stuff enough? Perhaps not, but it's better than a starter pack that will give you a Katana and a Locust if you're lucky. I say give them a bunch of gold cards and an UR on top of a number of commons and uncommons. Let them get a sniff of that Salarian Infiltrator, put a Claymore in their hands. They might be intrigued.

Sounds good to me. Maybe Bioware could market it with the next DLC to draw in more players.

Not sure if you are joking or not, since you are a reasonable guy from what I know, hehe, but I know that many will feel that way about this. But it's not like they'll get multiple URs in this pack. Perhaps one UR and ten gold cards or something like that. Like I said, I think it is in everyones' interest.

I love it! I'd go as far as giving them one of the more popular rares already at X, like a Carnifex, claymore, etc. That way everyone has one really good weapon out the gate and at least has the weapon to play gold, even if they lack the ability.

I support this. I started the MP a month ago (wasn't interested in it, but gave it a try... and loved it). But it was really tough starting with nothing, and a nice, starter pack (nothing too outrageous of course) would be a great incentive. So what if I didn't get one? Big whoop, I want this game supported and played as long as it can, and I think your idea is great. ^_^

Of course I'm joking. I don't mind new players with some decent weapons and unlocked characters. Less camping and farming, more fun.

I support this :)

BTW, speaking of bling bling. Every new player should get a Wraith since it's golden and looks cheap. LOL.

They dont need the weapon at X straight away for it to be decent. A level 1 Carnifex is good enough for someone to learn Bronze, and then as they make their way to Silver they would start to unlock more. If you give them 1 gun at X already they probably wont try out any of the lower level guns for ages.

I'd be all for this. The amount of stuff must be overwhelming by now for new players - I remember thinking it was a lot back when I started and that was pretty soon after the game came out.

I wouldn't mind if they got some stuff "for free". It might make the transition to Silver a little easier. At the beginning, wiping on Bronze happened regularly to me. Now I'd say it's nigh impossible with even one competent player on the team, which I'm sure makes it harder to learn anything on Bronze at all.

Edited for grammar.

Pleased to see that altruism isn't dead! If this gets enough positive feedback, then I will send a PM to a Bioware employee linking to this thread.

Why just for newbs?

I need UR's and can't get them no matter how many credits I spend.

I want an all UR pack for everyone.

At this point, with every gun but the Saber, the game has been out long enough for them to start off newbies with a Harrier and granting it upon everybody.

That gun changes the game. It's great for leveling up through Bronze and Silvers. It's not great above that due to the Ammunition constraints, even with the Thermal Clip storage Gear outside of the Demolisher.

But it is an extremely valuable leveling tool.

Harriers for everybody: The only AR that functions like an AR should.

Support the movement.  Everybody needs a Harrier.

This is a one time pack only. Please create a new topic or respond in an appropriate thread if you want an UR pack. This thread is about the starter pack.

I say hell no! Why should new players get a pack of free stuff when I had to work hard and fight the trolling RNG system for mine for a lot longer. Screw this idea and send it strait to hell.

I know they don't need it.  It's a bit selfish of me, I guess.  If every player has at least one good weapon, I think we see more u/u.  It also gives every player a bonafide chance to excel from the beginning.  I'd also like to guarantee a sampler platter of races, one from each class.  That way, anyone can play the "new" alien race of their choice right off the bat.  I'd probably go AA, TSo, SE, QFI, KSe, DV.  Original classes, but put a pip in each one.

EDIT: To be clear, I like giving everyone one rare X weapon so they have at least the theoretical ability to boss gold from the get-go.  You mention that a low-level rare is fine for bronze, and I agree, but I want a bit more than that.  Some players' skill far outpaces their manifest.

I get this might seem unfair for those who have been playing, but no reason not to send out one rare X weapon to everybody.  Players like me wouldn't benefit directly, but I think the game would be enhanced.

If they do this, then everyone who played the game before they introduced the 'Starter Pack" should get a "Finisher Pack"

Finisher Pack would max out all unlocks remaining, symbolizing that they are not a Starter, but a FInisher.

fair is fair.

I do not like this idea as presented.

Perhaps 1 (one) rare character and 1 (one ) rare weapon at level 1 (one).

Had a N7 level 8 (eight) in our Silver lobby last night....he said Bronze takes too long.

Then we revived his toon 20 or so times before the DC.

I would like to see something like this. New players can get their choice of 5 gold cards and one UR upgrade. After that RNG can take care of them. Must reach N7 level 20 to unlock. Even if they know what guns and characters are best they won't be able to max that weapon ur unlock all the good classes. Of corse someone like me would go with a fury, talon, MQI, and grenade capacityX3

That's the thing. The noobs are actually having a harder time than you because of the huge pool of things to unlock.
