Actually, thinking about it, we did all get a starter pack, didn't we? Or maybe that was just in the demo. I can't remember. Either way, it was just a few basic items with one uncommon (or chance of an uncommon, or something). Your idea is better, OP. A box full of shiny gold things would be a better thing to give the new players. PM the mods, do it!

Yeah, we did. I just want it to be a lot better for the new players, like you say. The amount of gold cards have more than doubled,  maybe tripled even, since day one.

Harriers for everybody.

The problem with this is that the players will be put off by the fact that none of the guns they unlock can measure up to it.

Which thereby leads to the conclusion..............

That they won't feel rewarded for their trouble and quit? Not sure I'm following you now, sir!

While I think your noob pack is a good idea maybe limit the character cards to 2 or 3. Any more and I feel it WOULD be unfair to those of us who have put the time in. Maybe a good balance of characters, weapons, and gear with 5 of each consumable to get them started would be good.

Well, a starter with few uncommons and mods is good for morale. Most uncommons are already obsolete anyway.

I think it was a free recruit pack. I found it really hard to care about recruit packs. I still find it hard to, even though I still have common stuff to unlock (the store is seriously trolling me when it comes to recruit packs - they only give me common character cards, for common characters I've maxed out. The one common character I regularly play with is the Human Female Adept, which I have never gotten a card for).

Not sure if you are joking or not, since you are a reasonable guy from what I know, hehe, but I know that many will feel that way about this. But it's not like they'll get multiple URs in this pack. Perhaps one UR and ten gold cards or something like that. Like I said, I think it is in everyones' interest.

Of course I'm joking. I don't mind new players with some decent weapons and unlocked characters. Less camping and farming, more fun.

I support this :)

I never got JACK from Bioware.  Crappy RNG, and nerfs galore.  Why should these new peeps get any better?  Why are they special?

More fun would have been imminent had the game let us earn rewards directly.  Instead, farmers farm more cash - so devs drop the UR rate.  The 'normal' player gets boned harder.  Then devs nerf the chars farmers use - hurting the normal player again.  Then the devs nerf the guns farmers use - and again the normal player suffers.  This ner****e has been happening since the beta was out - and is still ongoing.

I have had to deal with the devs nerfing and raping everything that was even remotely good in this game.  So no, why should they think about changing their draconian policies - just because people are leaving in droves?  What did Bioware/EA expect would happen?

They will not bend over backwards for the new people.  They surely never gave a damn about us that have been here all along.  Its too out of character for them.

The number of gold cards has gone from 22 to 67 (minus one from both since respec cards hardly count and never occupy a guaranteed rare slot), so tripled is correct.

I totally agree.

Starting as a new player at this point would for me be absolutely frustrating (after the initial excitement) due to the difficulty in obtaining specific classes and/or weapons you would like to try to play with or upgrade.

I also strongly feel they should provide more targeted packs, like when there was a Resurgence Premium Spectre Pack which guaranteed at least one Resurgence rare weapon or character. That way, it wouldn't seem just as annoyingly hard to get and/or upgrade stuff you actually want, without eliminating the random aspect entirely.

I say give it to everyone. Just give everyone a one-time "Thanks for playing" pack with one guaranteed UR, Two or three gold cards, two or three silvers, and two or three blue cards. Maybe have a couple of those cards be guaranteed gear items. Just don't put a time limit on it so even players just coming into the game will find it in the store along with the standard starter pack. This not only thanks new players for trying out the MP, but also veterans for sticking with the game.

Not a bad idea. If a player really wants the Geth Engineer, for example, there would be a way for him or her to have a better chance of getting it.

I like this idea too. My main concern is the new players, but I can see how a "thank you for playing" pack could have a positive effect in regards of making sure veteran players still stick with the game.

This thread is meant to advocate for an improved starter pack, but if a Bioware employee drops by he or she should definitely take note of this and the other feedback in this thread.

Agreed. It's good to see a positive thread in this shark tank. Personally, I've had more pure fun in ME3 mp than in most other online shooters (and I've played a LOT of online shooters). That, along with free dlc, keeps me coming back day after day. I'd like to see this game supported for a long time, and doing something good for new players really can't hurt.

That sounds good, too.

I don't know what the financials look like on the store.  Who knows, maybe the increased number of rares/ultra-rares increases the per capita spending of the player base.  Still, it looks like it would be frustrating to me and, despite having spent some real money and played a whole lot of games to get my manifest to look fairly pretty, I have no problem at all with the idea of giving new players an extra leg up that I didn't have.  Of course, this is because my improved manifest has made the game more fun to me, so I don't feel like my experience is devalued by other players getting something for free...I'm so firm on this that I would advocate handing new players 5 level X rare weaponjs (one in each category).

It would be nice if new players at least got several Jumbo Equipment Packs. I am tired of playing with noobs who don't have missles or medi-gels.

JEPs wouldn't help too much since a new player's capacity is 1 per consumable per game.  I often forget this when I'm playing with youngsters since I got to 5 per very early - precisely because there were fewer rares available to crowd out the capacity upgrades.  For perspective, I still haven't gotten the additional Medi-Gel capacity (bringing it to 6) from the last event and instead have gotten many level IV consumables and some rare gear upgrades.

That's the thing. The noobs are actually having a harder time than you because of the huge pool of things to unlock.

I for one agree w/ Air.  I for two disagree with you.  They are only quote " having a harder time" because they started later than I or you did. To rephrase master yoda do or do not there is no try; grind or grind not there is no handout.

Actually they DO have it easier...  when the game was released there was no premium specture pack OR jumo equipment packs.  Exp within packs was also increased makign it even easier to get to 20 with your characters and able to move past bronze into higher payout games...

Also....  Some have played since day 1 and some may have even spent REAL MONEY on starter stuff and to simply give it to noobs... it would be a preverbial slap in the face to existing players, even the dreader leach (at least they spend time ON the game leaching the credits).

Don't get me wrong  If they wanna give a pack w/ a bunch of common and uncommons and some level 1 consumables sure.  1/2 of it is junk anyone w/ a decent manifest never uses anyway but to a new player sure it'd be gold...  One man's trash is another's treasure.  But to drop UR's and such??????  I'd ragequit on all bioware products past present and future indefinately.

Air Quotes was joking.

Also, remember that we're talking about one single pack. Not handing over a Harrier X.

Let's get a call in to the wahmbulance...

Seriously, if you haven't enjoyed your play in proportion to how much you've spent on it then why wait for this "preverbial [sic] slap in the face" to ragequit?  If you have enjoyed yourself, either despite or because of the money you've spent, then how would someone else getting something for free cheapen your experience?

I paid $60 for this game.  This past Monday, any new player in the US could have bought the game for $20 new at Gamestop.  This doesn't bother me because I believe I've gotten more than adequate value for the money I've spent.  According to your logic, I should ragequit...

+1 Love to see love for the Newbs. Maybe even start them out with some credits, so that they can enjoy all the Vegas-like fun we have with the RNG.

Heck, if this were to happen, I might even consider picking ME3 up for the PC :P

I had to unlock everything tediously and repetitively from the start...

Why should someone who just got the game get a pack containing more than one character or weapon?

For me the initial starter pack was enough... and it only had like 5 cards in it.

Why! Every gun in the game is viable and FUN on bronze, I have all of them and I mostly play uncommon weapons when cruising bronze.

Well, I'm sorry you disagree.  My point still stands.  I have had to deal with nerfs to both classes and guns as well as a highly unkind RNG  system since jump street in beta.  This causes strife and people to get fed up.

Why would they bend over backwards and nurture the new guys?  Current policies are making the older people leave once they are fed up.  Nothing is being done to retain them (not that I see).  Why would they then work hard to 'red carpet' the new guys?  If they do, how is that fair to the veterans?

I think the best we can do is welcome the new guys ourselves - by lending helpful hands and advice.  Get them through some runs and teach them the ropes.

You have to admit - its the comeraderie that keeps us here.  Its not the weapons, or the armor or any of that other stuff.
