What do you think of this new game?
I loved the first part, even though this franchise is Frankenstein-like, I mean, it borrows a lot from other games...and somehow manages to make it work. The character designs and the voices were good enough (Mark Hamill ftw <3 ) and the story got me hooked and left me wanting for more after it ended.
Now I'm playing part two, and while I'm liking it so far, I think it's an inferior game when compared to the first part, which is kind of ironic. I find the camera to be mostly annoying, and the story is quite boring to be honest...too much silence. In Darksiders 1 the fact that some bosses had dialogue and there were many characters and NPC around helped a lot, but in Darksiders II the bosses are mute and there are too few characters. The conversations feel forced...just questions and answers (What is that? Where is it? Where should I go? What, when, who...ad nauseam).
Also, why is Death so weak? He's supposed to be the most fearsome and strong of the riders, but I'm pretty sure War was way more stronger. This guy dies pretty fast if you're not careful, which leads me to another point...nobody takes him seriously. He's the freaking rider of Death, but everyone treats him like he was some kind of errand boy, which isn't hard to believe since some stupid skeletons can totally kick his ass.
Those who love to collect stuff are in for a treat, since you have to collect lots of stuff, pages of books, relics, stones...many little things, which can be good or tiresome, depending on your point of view.
Anyway, speaking of the good parts, I loved the soundtrack by Jesper Kyd. This composer has a real talent, his music for the Assassin's Creed franchise was awesome (and I'm sad to see him absent from part 3), and here he gives us another beautiful musical experience. The graphics are ok, they're not amazing or eye-popping, but the characters have interesting designs and the world is well detailed. I especially loved the Eternal Throne.
I don't like that the bosses are mute...but the fights are creative and some of the creatures won't go down easily.
The puzzles are fun, but I must say that the rewards aren't always worth the effort.
There are also sidequests, apart from the main story, which add to the game and its storyline.
Death is a lovable protagonist, I like his voice and movements. Shame that he doesn't say much, and since his companion is a crow (also mute, would have been awesome if the could speak) the interaction is very limited, nothing compared to the relationship between War and The Watcher.
So, what's your opinion? Did you like the game? Disliked it? Why?
