What's the best way to defeat them? Everytime I try, I always end up having to load my save at least 3 times, and then I only ever win with one character left. Is there a good strategy that works to beat them? 'Cause they always have good drops.

If your mage has the misdirection hex that can help make him miss his attacks. Vulnerability + damage spells. If you are using Leliania and she has both bow and melee talents, keep her back shooting her bow and have your tank as the only one standing in front of the revenant.

If the revenant starts chasing your mage have your mage just run around in circles while everyone else attacks.

Use Death Hex as well. Curse of Mortality is also a good one against Revenants since it negates their regeneration ability.

Set your mage to ONLY heal (you'll probably need the mana), have your tank tank the rev and everyone else attacking from range. Going into melee can be quite deadly because of his AoE-sweeps. So better stay out of there completely.

If your tank has half-decent tankstats and a few potions for emergency, this should do the trick.

And, very important: Unless you are one of those people soloing on nightmare dont even try to fight a revenant before Lv 10.

It has crazy armour and defense, so melee characters need very very high offense and armour penetration. Doing so little damage in melee, I find that the revenant tend to go after the mages instead since they are doing the most damage by far. So any spell or ability that increase your melee damage would help: either lower its armour and defense, and/or or increase armour penetration and offense. It is deadly offensively as well, so you reduce its damage as well.

Melee Rogues are a no-no; they'll get splattered by the Revenant's AoE strikes. Give 'em a bow/crossbow.

It's kinda lame but I ususally have the one he's attacking run around the room and while he's chasing that guy the other pound away with ranged attacks. Also if you have an no-mage party, it's actually pretty easy, just make sure you manage your potion-drinking well.

Revenant talents:
- Aura of Weakness
- Double Strike
- Mass Pull
- Pull
- Shield Wall

They're immune to Cold and Nature damage.

You can test your luck and use Cone of Cold to freeze him and Stonefist or Crushing Prison to shatter him :P.

Let your damage dealer (DW Rogue, Warrior...) use a poison with Fire damage or Spirit damage and attack him. Keep your other party members at a distance.

Misdirection Hex and Curse of Mortality are very useful here. With Misdirection Hex all his normal attacks will miss and Curse of Mortality removes his health regeneration ability.

You can use paralysis on the as well. With enough entropy you don't even need to heal much or use any force fields. Like the above posters said, the hexes really make the fight easier.

Just be wary, revenants dont like being hexed and the hexer seems to generate alot of aggro (seems like to me anyway). So taunt is your friend at the start.

lifeward helps a lot if you have a spirit healer helping your tank.  heroic offense also helps the tank to put the smackdown on.  If you have 2 or 3 melee characters they will all take damage from the revenenants multiple hit abilities so if one can use a bow it helps..

We can beat them with a no mage party too. Just as easy. If you finished the game you might like to watch some of my movies with such party. =)

My strategy is lots of melee dps and healing. You need a tank with high armor and defense and a DW backstabbing rogue. Your mage will primarily focus on healing the melee players but you can add a bit of damage with crushing prison (they are immune to the stun effect but not the damage) or walking bomb if you can time it to be over before the fight ends or can survive the blast. Revenants have high armor scores so you will want lots of armor penetration. Telekinetic weapons works great for that. Flaming weapons also adds a good deal of damage since they are weak against fire. If you keep your characters' gear up to date you shouldn't have a problem doing it this way. Keep in mind these are supposed to be tough fights and it's not wrong for you to have some casualties.

One thing I've noticed is that they don't seem to like hexes much. Even if your mage doesn't do any damage, slapping a couple of hexes on a revenant will often make the bastard go after the mage instead of the tank.

This might sound stupid but I've managed to kite the revenants with my mage depending on the terrain of course. Revenants actually have slightly less run speed than you. I just kited him around a mountain in circle and used lightning when it was safe. His pull deals damage so you'll probably be blowing through a few healing potions.

interrupt revant's talents. before casting one of his telekinetic pulls, he will stick his sword in the ground, hit him with CoC or a knockdown effect(thou, it tend to resist the knockdowns).

Yea Revenants are probably one of the single strongest types of enemies in the game much more difficult than Ogres. They pretty much murdered my team EVERY TIME back in the werewolf forest.

Like others have said there a few different strats to use, though leveling and waiting till your team has the best armors/weapons/skills in the game could be done if its just too frustrating right now. Its not like they will go anywhere...wait till your party is at least lvl 15 should be okay.

Now that I have a lot of goodies for my team I only wish there were more Revenants for me to verse. Imagine actually soloing a Revenant for a challenge or just having your team do what they do without you mirco managing - around that level 15 and some really good equipment you can actually do that...

If the rev has friends, I always slap a forcefield on him while I take out his friends then I can focus on him alone. Then he goes down quick. Having Spirit Healer helps b/c it allows you to gang up on him and cast group heal after his double strike.

The easiest way to beat them is to stun them, freeze them etc. If you do that, it's not that hard any more.

Freezing them lasts like 2 seconds and does no damage. Infact all the disabling spells last bugger all vs revenants. Paralysis is almost always resisted. The only sure fire way I know to decimate revenants is to have your main character as a dual wielding warrior (dex based) or rogue and a supporting mage with the flaming weapons spell or telekinesis. Infact with this party setup absolutely no battle is difficult.

I'm currently playing as a mage (damager / hexer / CC) and also have wynn as a healer. I am in the bracillian forest and the revenant there at the fist tombstone is spanking the crap out of me. My two melee party members I have are sten and zevran... both are completely useless IMO as they can't hit the broad side of a barn. Sten is almost the full line in two handed weapons and he misses just about every swing. Zevran is a cunning based rogue and misses even worse than sten.

I think if you were to try and solo as a mage and not run an arcane warrior style build these fights would not be possible. The moment misdirection goes down your mage is cactus. You simply can't do enough spell damage to it in that time to even get close to killing it. I think best ive been able to do with vulnerability hex and all my cone spells is about 50% of it's health depleted

:P I worked it out how to beat it solo mage. Takes very select spells tho.

Must have spells:

Arcane Shield, Heroic Defense

The first 3 glyph spells.

Vulnerability hex, Affliction hex

lightning, shock, flame blast, arcane bolt

healing and mana potions

1)Cast arcane shield

2)Initiate Combat sequence

3) Cast Glyph of paralysis on Revenant

4) Sprint up to the revenant and cast Glyph of repulsion on self (this will allow you to completely ignore the skeleton mob

5) cast heroic Defense. If your defense is not aproximately 140 you can cast glyph of warding as well.

6) cast vulnerability hex followed by affliction hex on the revenant.

7) unload your offensive spell lines on the revenant.

8) replentish mana and health from potions and repeat steps 5 - 7 untill revenant is dead.

9) Mop up skeleton minions.

Revenant will have a very difficult time hitting your absurdly high defense score. Mine was 168 when I fought it. The skeleton mob most certainly won't be able to land a hit on you.

Nice selection, but maybe you can help me, why do people play solo in a group oriented game, I mean, what does it actually achieve other than perhaps inflating your ego?
