I have always gone Feros> Therum>Virmire>Noveria but once I hit noveria, I'm pulled into a haul till the end of the game. Can I leave with the garage key and come back later? If I'm doing a second playthrough, and had the charm needed, I could persuade to get the key. Is it possible to do it first? Or earlier so i don't get sucked into a straight run to peak 15, ilos, citadel, end of game?

I think so. I've certainly left Noveria and gone off to do side quests after Anoleis was arrested. I remember I did this because I was curious to see if Gianna Parasini would be in Anoleis' office when I got back. She wasn't so I've no idea who was running the place, but from memory if she'd arrested Anoleis that means I must have been given the pass or key or whatever for the garage.

Yes, you can put Noveria on hold any time before going to Peak 15. Peak 15 is sort of a mini "point of no return". But you will have time after completing Noveria to wrap up side missions and level up, etc... just hold off on going to the Citadel. In fact, even after the special Citadel section I think you still have free reign until you actually set the course for Ilos.

Hope that helps.

Yes, I've done this a couple of times to hit the merchants on Noveria and Feros for items I might want for Ilos. Done a couple of side missions too, though that doesn't really fit well with the storyline and the whole race against time thing.

Yes, you do, but if any sidequests you still have left to do need you to go back to the Citadel, obviously you're a bit stuck for that quest.

So I can go do noveria and peak 15 and rift station before picking up liara? How do I get past the lock down? If go to the citadel I get the lock down don't I? Or is it no matter because follow through that part then don't have to go straight to ilos, but can pick up liara. I don't use her. In this run I'm adept with kaidan and garrus through most of my runs, and since I'm mostly doing this one for kicks, like to keep disconnecting on the council and letting them die (it's not a transfer game since I'm level 58 but more of a game for fun to mess around with and see how things play out and even get some laughs and satisfaction in areas that irked me before - like killing the idiot council that does more harm than good - salarians toying with the rachni making them out of control so they 'upliift' the krogan to kill them then kill the krogan with genocide - what a horrific bunch of tools. They should be dead. I'm going rogue this run for the fun of it. Might even see how hard I can push kaidan instead of being nice since he's a tool anyway once ME2 come along and a wuss after than).

The lock-down at the Citadel happens immediately after you've completed all four story missions, so if you're doing Noveria but haven't done Therum yet then you won't get locked-down yet.

As for Kaidan, if you're romancing him with a femshep then you can charm/intimidate him into being more xenophobic and renegade.
