So I have done three playthroughs:
Level 20 Rogue Archer (Ranger/duelist) he was boned though and I want to redo him
Level 22 Mage (Spirit Healer/Shapesifter-rp pruposes only) he was pretty fun
Level 23 Warrior (DW Champ/Templar) probably the most fun I have had in a game in a while.

Anyway, I really want to play again, but I can't just seem to do it. I have created about six different characters and pretty much as soon as I am done with Lothering I just stop. I really want to redo my archer (his talents were bad, my approval with companions was bad - still don't know how that happened, I didn't get very many good pieces of gear, etc etc). However, redoing another archer has been, rather, tedious, especially at the lower levels where you feel you are contributing nothing.

So what is a fun PC and group composition I could do, that would feel unique and fun? Generally I run with Alistair, Morrigan, and Leliana.

I was thinking maybe PC 2hand Reaver/berzerker, Sten or Oghren, Zevran, and something else, most likely Wynne for some heals. This way I'm not really using a 'tank' character, and other companions I haven't used. But would that be unique enough from my other playthroughs to make it interesting?

I tried being the 'jerk' roleplayer, but found it really hard because it isn't evil with a goal, your just a jerk.

But I don't know! Help me out! I'm dying to do another playthrough, just nothing has catched my interest.
Or I could be weird and try duel wield solo, but I'm more a RP person than the 'load up on challenges' type.

Thanks!

I dont know what would be fun for you, I just find interesting your "jerk" versus "evil with a goal" remark.

One of my characters is coldhearted cynical bish that doesnt care about anything apart from her personal pretty vague and shortsighted ambitions. I found bit hard to get her involved with general "lets save the world from the Blight" idea, but lets say she goes with the flow and takes what she can from it. You might call her jerk, she has no goal in being evil, she just is evil. Now did I make a character that is just a jerk? Dunno but she is very fun to play.

2H Human, Sten, Oghren - using Maul, Greatsword and Battleaxe -, and Wynne as healing bot and/or buffer is setup I will have to try once.  Would probably make it little easy at times, but it does not prevent it from being fun. Should have neat visuals party wise and equipment wise too. Besides 2Hs are more fun than they seem to be.

Other than that .. take a break? Maybe you are just  "burned out"?

I think what some of it might be is that I had so much fun with the DW noble that everything just sort of falls in comparison hehe.

I had a great time when I expelled all mages from my party! With a 2H, zerk/champ. Also, what diff. are you playing? Replaying the same char in higher diffs can be very satisfying, imho. It was for me.

The party I enjoyed the most was my 2H, Alistair, Sten and Leliana ... they gave me some epic and funny moments... and movies too!

First playthrough was on easy (like I said, I'm more interested in the RP then a gaming challenge). Second playthrough was about half easy/half normal. Third playthrough was half normal, 1/4 hard, 1/4 nightmare.

You'll be surprised about how easy NM may seem now to you, as you already have a few runs yourself. It's more a matter of knowing how to play the game, yet it is still challenging but I'd say more rewarding than my first run in Hard, which was a Hell actually!

Main difference is that friendly fire is at 100% and bosses have more resistance, HP and full development of their levels against PC level when spawned but not anything that will really be that hard. It's fun to do a zero injury run in NM and only in a very few bosses you may need to reload a few times, perhaps none.

I'm liking the idea of PC 2hand Reaver/berzerker, Sten Berzerker, Oghren (berzerker, champion) and Leliana Bard/Ranger... that could be pretty fun, and challenging depending on how well the 2handers do with their respective CC.

Actually yeah, I might try that, would just have to Oghren early... soo finish Lothering and do Honnoleath, defense of Redcliffe to hopefully get close to level 10 so Jarvia's lair won't completely face roll me. Then get Oghren and go off to do Tower.

That looks like a fun group.  I think I'll try something like that soon.  I'd probably switch Leliana out for a mage just to have haste.  Haste + 3 different 2h warriors would be crazy.Image IPB

If you do not mind micro-managing your 2Hs (or perhaps using Tactics extensivelly?)  you might find out many enemies will spend their time on the floor or stunned rather than fighting back :) Their CC would in certain situation be "mage-like".

Leilana, for her songs and rogue abilites, is pretty good companion for a group like that and getting Oghren before doing anything else could be fun by itself. Just keep in mind Leilana will not be able to disable almost any traps at that lvl and location, at least iirc.

Respec might fix that, if you're ok with it. I like the idea that I'm building my party as I see them fit instead of having them down my throat with useless skills and wasted atribs points sometimes.

Kinda like NWN2 allows us to use some of our own made local chars in one of its xpacks!

Have you tried a solo character? It is a differnt experience from party play.

I wasn't much interested in a solo character, but if I did, it would be DW warrior or rogue.

I'll probably use respec mod, since this is just a for-fun playthrough. Will probably use Leliana before getting Wynne, then probably Wynne from there one out. It's just a matter of haste vs bard songs... but will probably go haste/cc/heals

And yes, the most challenging part would be getting Oghren that early, as I usually do Orzammar last.

Changing the order you travel in DA also helps a lot to regain interest. I never follow the same order at all. And since everything scale to the level of the PC, it doesn't really matter where you go first. Orzammar is not that hard at lower levels since everything there will be adjusted to your level, I guess.

Well, adjusted at level 10 or higher, the zone is set to 10.

What should I do for the three 2h guy's specializations?

Reaver would be best for the one tanking, so either me (the PC) or Sten. Oghren is berzerker. Having a champion would be nice, but Templar would be nice to dispell stuff.

Maybe:

PC: Reaver/Champion

Sten: Berzerker

Oghren: Berzerker/Templar

Wynne: Spirit healer/ Blood Mage (evil grandma wynne, tsk tsk)

Leliana: Bard/Ranger

I had an idea of non-mage playthrough with a party of all four combat specializations - Weapon and shield, Two Hander, Archer and Dual wielder. That seems interesting to me. Also, a party with all races included - Qunari, Elf, Dwarf and a Human.

Maybe even to combine the two ideas and go with a party consisting of Alistair, Sten, Zevran and PC Dwarf archer, or to ditch Alistair and go with Leliana and PC Dwarf with S&S. Plenty of options and possibilities.

For me, the problem with lasting appeal to this game is it's linearity. I had 2 playthroughs but after that I have no interest to go with another one, even with all the ideas and new tactics and different fights. Maybe after the new DLC comes out I might try again,

Anyways, sorry about the little rant, I see that you've made up your mind so have fun with the next one. About the specializations, Champion's Rally stack I think so that is something to keep in mind. I'd strongly reccomend to go with a Templar for one of the warriors, as this opens up Knight Commander's armor for 40% spell resistance and possible immunity to spells, which is great fun.
