Restricting class selection to a Mage? Don't see it happening. At all. Nope.

They removed race selection and background selection, it's a possibility if a change of plan demands it.

race was only needed in Origins to show the player the different worlds and culture, that wasnt needed so much in Da2. classes have a significant role in roleplaying, playing different classes gives you different play styles. now im not saying they couldnt easily get rid of the other classes, but i dont see why they would think of getting rid of them.

Also have to factor in that Origins was made over years, Dragon Age 2 had a much shorter development so doing six more origins would have crippled the team.

Yes.

Apparently we may also be restricted to one specialization, although the specializations are supposed to have a larger impact on the story.

That's not really a fair comparison to make.  The need for separate voice actors probably played a significant role in determining whether the main character could be one race or multiple races.

I understand plans can always change in game development, as Bioware could remove warrior and rogue and stick with the mage class. I'm not saying they will but they can do that. They have that type of power.

Given the story they chose to want to tell in DA2 and now again in DA3 it really doesn't work well if the player is a mage. If I had to hazard a guess I would say that the PC could neither be a templar nor a mage in 3, there would still be classes just not those. You might still have recruitable allies which were mages or templars as well.

PS. you'd think they'd get enough of telling us how horribly magic is and that it corrupts all it touches unless kept in line by fascists, I had enough of it by DA1 and it was only a subplot there ... I can't imagine how you guys put up with it for 2, and now they want to make it a central plot yet again? Can they really not find a more interesting story to tell in their world? Does someone at the top have some fantasy of wanting to be a wizard dominated by a big strong military type?
