Dunno, maybe it needs to check how many Bioware points you have - The demo probably didn't have the ability to use said points. Maybe it also needs to check your login details to make sure the points are actually yours to spend

They're simulating waiting in line at the checkout counter. Free of charge. What's worse is losing your connection every time you buy a pack.

Enter store, wait half a minute. Buy pack, wait another 30 - 60 seconds. Lose connnection. Go back to main menu. Wait for server connection and DLC check. Enter multiplayer, enter store. Purchased pack may or may not be displayed. Continue shopping, buy another pack, lose connection, rinse and repeat.

This happened to me all the time about 3 months back, then it spontaneously fixed, now its back again.

Although I can't actually log in at all at the moment.

It takes 20 seconds to hook up to the Store because the game's more bloated than Windows Vista.

This is normal. The other end has to do a lot, and it has to do it over the network. The database will always require running from the disk, and must do a lot of work to authenticate while doing this. Setting up a SQL database for performance is a very tricky thing, and there are a lot of engineers who specialize in just that one topic and get paid huge amounts of money for it. At the same time you are accessing that disk, so is everyone else who is either authenticating or shopping. There are a LOT of quality issues in this game's multiplayer, but online shopping having a long load screen, while it could be improved, is not as bad as it might seem.

To be fair, yes, it is nowhere near as bad as it used to be. Now if only connectivity within the game itself were improved by the same amount I daresay many players would be a lot happier. I'm thinking I would be.

A man can dream. And sometimes that's all he can do.
