The whole origin of the Reapers is STILL stupid.

Why not? If someone is threatening you with people with guns, one of the more reliable means to stop that is having your own people with guns.Someone With Mass wrote...
The so called "apex race" can be bested if someone smashes their orbs.
Also, are we really going down that path of creating synthetics to stop synthetics again?
Unless you truly believe that all synthetics are innately treacherous, using synthetics to stop synthetics is mundane.
guns have safety and don't fire themself

So the Leviathans make an AI to solve the synhetic life vs organic life problem? That's like hiring an axe murderer to be the judge in a murder trial.
The Catalyst serves its overriding purpose of saving all organic life (not just the advanced life) at any cost. Synthetics will eventually wipe out all organic life regardless of advancement - it's been observed galaxy-wide in the past. The Leviathans said that creating the Catalyst was not a mistake - it still serves its purpose, and organic life continues to exist because of it.

What I don't get is if the Leviathans can enthrall other races, why don't they just will them not to create AI's? It seems like they can control everything from thoughts to fine motor control, so how is it that the Thrall races were even able to make AI's?
They can't control entire populations.

My premise was that it's stupid to corect a situation using the very thing that's causing it. Putting out an oil fire using more oil is stupid.
Your premise is demonstrably false. Oil is used in firefighting. Gunmen are used to stop gunmen. Soldiers are used to stop soldiers. Nukes are used to stop nuclear war.
Moreover the specific solution you complain about is one you yourself used in Mass Effects 2 & 3. It is not stupid to use an AI to fight AIs.

The Star Child AI stripped the Reapers of their menace. Much the same way the midiclorians from the Phantom Menace robbed the Force of its wonder.

Watching the original trilogy you heard Obi Wan talk about the Clone Wars and
Just like the prequels made Anakin/Vader whiny and laughable due to bad script/dialogue and bad acting.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They didn't need to explain the Reapers much like we didn't need to see Anakin become Vader. The bits and pieces we got about Anakin/Vader during the original trilogy were enough to come up with possibilities of how it happened. Seeing Anakin become Vader wasn't necessary for the original trilogy. We just saw Vader a once good jedi "twisted and evil" and Luke must stop him and defeat the Emperor. The Reapers just needed stopping, all we needed was a little more exposition for why the Human-Reaper was created so early. (we didn't even get that <_<). We didn't need Anakin's life story and definitely not the Reapers' life story.
ME3's Catalyst and Reaper origins = Star Wars prequel trilogy

Ugh, don't remind me what Soverign said in ME1. It only serves to make the ending of ME3 sadder and more frustrating.

when is oil used in firfighting ? Also, you use gunmen that you know you can trust, because you traned them and you know they have good reasons to obey you.CaptainZaysh wrote...

EDI was a shaackled AI, it coulld be turned off or be forced to do anything its master wantd.
The catalyst had no kind of override, so thy're petty different.
Also reapers aren't eally synthheticss. EDI wasn't built t counter, say, the geth. Plusit's not like it's all up to her to fight the reaprs, as the ships and weapons are manufactured by people.
