When I did my first run through back in '07, Kaiden stayed behind. Last night, Ashley felt the cold embrace of death on run through #2.

first runs kaiden died because I never took time to know him or understand him or his powers and felt ashley would be better in battle due to being a 'soldier'. Turns out kaidan's a wrecking machine when running with another biotic. Take downs on amartures and colossuses are awesome. Lift, shoot like crazy. lift, shoot like crazy. Cover, in the midden while recharge. It's awesome.
Now ashley, she's nasty. I want to throw her out an airlock. On eden prime I snapped at her for abandoning her crew. That was funny in the next conversation when you come out of the med bad (fem shep). She's all wound up. I laughed for ten minutes. But when you become spectre, she's the same as before. It's just that one spot so far. I probably would have never hated her so much if I hadn't played all 3 in a row after saving her and seeing her be horrific to fem shep (read total ****) on horizon and then even worse in ME3. Plus, she lacks the balance kaidan has. Love interest or not, Kaidan is better for the good of the ship. She is really dumb in choices and acts bossy but has no clue about a lot of things. No wonder her team died on Eden prime. Plus, she never served in space. Useless really unless you need a soldier (but garrus and wrex have some skills there so you don't need a hard core soldier at all in this game- more like one good auto rifle user and two good biotics if playing a biotic character - vangaurd is still my favorite!).
