Mass Effect 3 is my favorite so far, but I have to say Binary Domain and Spec op the line are two big surprises for me this year.

Binary Domain also touches the topic about human and robots but grapple with some Blade Runner-esque philosphical issues which is also a nice touch compare to what mass effect 3 did.

Spec ops the line delivered a short but nice story about a "Mordin" like character (I mean a tragic hero type character) which is quite unusual in the shooter games these days.

Binary Domain handled the whole synthetic/organic theme a lot better than ME3, and Spec Ops handled PTSD much better.

Both also had much better endings, but that probably goes without saying.

I would not say they are better, just Mass Effect 3 had different touches on those issues. Typically BioWare likes to create epic conflicts spcied with personal, so most time they are not willing to narrate personal issues in a meaningful way as all they want is conflict.

This year is really a terrible year for gaming. 2013 sounds good though.

I hoped for GTA V for 2012, it seems it won't happen. I still don't know exactly if the coming September~December games have any quality or not.

Anyone who says the year is really terrible for gaming has already decided it would be long before the year started.

The past few years have been pretty bad.

The Walking Dead is amazing. Loving it a lot actually.

Mass Effect 3 is definitely my favorite of 2012 so far, though Sins of a Solar Empire - Rebellion and Endless Space come in a close second.

I haven't gotten many recent games, myself - my most recent games have been Civilization V and Fable III (though I did get the Gods & Kings expansion for Civ V).

Most of my recent funds went into a 1000-mile move and building a new gaming PC.

Risen 2.

But I am pretty sure that the upcoming Dishonored will take the no.1 spot.

I haven't spent too much time with the games I have bought that were released this year. So far I've got:

Mass Effect 3 - finished
Game of Thrones - haven't started
Sleeping Dogs - unfinished
Darksiders 2 - unfinished
Witcher 2 (xbox version) - finished
Minecraft (xbox version) - can you ever finish this game?

The one I've spent most time on is ME3 so that is probably the best so far for me. I've mostly been playing or replaying older games on my to do list.
I'm still waiting on Borderlands 2, Dishonored and Assassins Creed 3 for this year but I think that Borderlands 2 is where I'm going to end up spending a lot of my time once it's released.

So far its Catherine. Came out this year in Europe. Also I really liked Alan Wake, Lollipop Chainsaw, Ib and Sleeping Dogs. I assume that Dishonored will top Catherine at the end of the year. Soon there will be The Testament of Sherlock Holmes and now that David Bateson is back, I give Hitman: Conviction a try.  Also looking forward to few indie titles like Cradle, The Five Cores and Lifeless Planet.

But if Witcher 2 could be counted even on PC, then it is that one. Enhanced edition really made the game feel complete. Something that I find very rare these days.

Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition... really 2012 has been kind of a let down for me personally.

Probably Crusader Kings 2 with Walking Dead just behind. Going to get Journey whenever i stop being lazy and see if it can keep up with this duo. Except these two no games that have been released this year have really been that awesome for me

Even with all the vitriol I've spit at Mass Effect 3's endings, and still do to this very month, day, hour and second; it's still my favorite game of this year.

No 2012 releases. Most games I want are set for 2013.

I guess pokemon black 2 and Metal Gear Solid Rising are the only two games I want.

The selection so far this year has been terrible. Risen 2 was alright, and that's my choice so far.

I have high hopes for Borderlands 2, and perhaps Black Ops 2 won't suck but I don't count on it.

So far Mass Effect 3. I didn't play any other game that came out this year. I bought Sleeping Dogs for PC, but I can't run it :(
I'm waiting for Assassins Creed 3, Dishonored and Hitman: Absolution. I hope that X: Rebirth will come out this year as well.

Journey is also very good, although I only saw gameplay on youtube (I haven't got PS3).

You don't think it's a tad too early to decide which game should be game of the year?

I'll decide once I've tried Absolution and Dishonoured, or when we get a bit more closer to November-December. Can't think of many games that I'm excited for this year at all.
