Yes the tactical combat was perfect IMHO - streamlined, but very interesting when you set up all your tactics.

I've got to say, after a few hours of play I really felt as if I was having to force myself to play through the game. I look back now and can't believe I actually completed it! I'd say 70-80% of that journey was spent wishing for it to be over.

Developers have already said combat would not be the same in the next game.

Well they aren't going back to Origins style - because that was dated MMO-like bleargh. So is it going full action ? Thats not really guarenteed fun, if you'd played the witcher, you would know full action is not necessarily good.

Funny you would say that, because most defenders of DA2 combat that i've read, compare it to WOW.

I didnt find DAO combat anything remotely like an MMO, but either way it was superior to DA2. However if the question is was DA2 fun, the answer is yes. It wasn't nearly as much fun as DAO, but it had a lot of fun aspects to it, it wasn't fun all the time, and some aspects were downright terrible, but there was quite a bit of fun to be had, there's no question about that, definitely worthy of playing and enjoying.

Was DA2 a fun game?
In a word no.
DA:O was a far better game with a richer storyline and better character cast. The characters in DA:2 were very dull and 2 dimensional. The maps for the dungeons and city were recycled endlessly and was easy to navigate.
The lack of race for the player was also a bad move and I would much rather have a silent player character than a voiced one if it means a better game.
DA:2 Combat was laughable npcs exploded each time they got hit by daggers and you had npcs parachuting in over the course of a fight. The enemy mages did the impossible as in teleporting which according to BioWares own lore on the game world is not possible.
DA:2 had more holes than a sieve.

I have fun with the game. But then mine is heavily modded.

I agree that DAO had a richer storyline. But DA2 wasn't all bad, i enjoyed Act 2. Parts of Act 1 were fun. It would have been better if it wasn't dominated by gaining money for the Deep Roads. They should of added more depth with another major plot line. Then they could have dumped most of the fetch quests. As for Act 3, well it seemed as though it was written on a Friday, and everyone was in a rush to leave for the weekend. They just rushed through it, as you would any boring task, just to be done with it.

Not all of them. I thought that Varric, Aveline, Bethany, Fenris, Bartrand, the Arishok, Cullen, Petrice, Thrask, Feynriel, and Meredith were well done. Now i love the personalities of Merrill and Isabela. They could have added more depth to Merrill, and Isabela practically had none. I have mixed feelings on Anders. While i understand the direction the writers went with him, there should have been more to him.

Horrible, i made better maps for D&D when i was 12.

Agreed.

I'm still one who wants his cake, and to eat it too. They impemented the voiced protagonist badly. They needed to give more dialogue choices, with full text instead of paraphrasing. Allow the line to dictate the tone not the other way around.

I've seen a lot of other good solutions as well to the voiced problems. A protagonist mute option, a voice pitch slider, and extra voices DLCs; are options i would like to see implemented.

Added to the fact that enemies had only a few abilities that they used. Though direct attack by Warriors was an improvement. I also liked the CCCs and setting tactics, though the tactics choices were way too simplistic. Combat had a Mortal Combat feel to it. It was one viable combat style, crit building and dps button mashing.

How Ironic that the game without a toolset needs mods everywhere to be even remotely close to the vanilla game WITH a toolset.

Actually, I did have fun with the vanilla game, I thought it was quite entertaining. After I bought and played DA:O UE, I saw why there was so much fan hate for the game, as it departed pretty drastically from the gameplay mechanisms so loved in the original game. It wasn't enough to make me hate DA2, but I realize why people do. I had assumed the combat was kitschy and visceral on purpose, when it was really an attempt to fix something not broke.

The people on this forum who haven't played DAO need to read this before they spew their nonsense. I'm tired of it.

The only moment I can think of where I hit any kind of high was seeing Flemeth return.

Honestly, I'm sat here trying to think back over the game what happened and apart from that, the ending and the Arishock it all meshes into one brown/grey blur.
