Errand boy quests...

I'm glad that people don't recognise that 3/4 of RPGs are basically filled with this.

Depends on how the quests are done. Some other rpgs do a better job.

I 'kinda' had fun first time through. The humongous amount of flaws in all areas of the game quickly became apparent after that. It would be a chore to play through it now.

It's great fun for me.  I've only managed to finish DA:O once since DA2 came out.  The horrible, slow combat, the lack of voice, and the terrible wooden facial expression of the Warden drive me nuts, now.

Alistair:  I love you!
Warden:

Wynne:  I'm an abomination.
Warden:

Zevran: Let's sleep together!
Warden:

Morrigan:  I hate you!
Warden:

Leliana: /sings
Warden:

Oghren: /belches
Warden:

Shale:  Pigeons!
Warden:

Sten: No
Warden:

God, it was awful.  I can still go back and play NWN and Baldur's Gate, but I can't play DA:O anymore.
Everytime Lady Hawke quirks her eyebrow in disbelief, I smirk. :wizard:

That's where player immersion comes in.

I enjoyed the game, sure it has it's rough spots but in the end I was able to have fun with it. Add the dlc's (mota, legacy) and I found that the replayability increased. I can do those dlc's at different acts of the game.

Those  perfectly fit a character who suffer pain, anger and revenge due to Howe's treachery. That's exactly my kind of character. It's show seriousness and suffering. MY WARDEN'S suffering.

This fit a character who never know anything about suffering but happy-go-lucky all the time even if she/he has loss a sister/brother or even parents. Dumb pathetic emotion character like Lady Hawke.

What? Do you always live a happy life? Have you ever loss someone close to you? Hmmm... forget it. I don't think you can understand. To you everything is humor and should be taken lightly. You can't understand why people chose not to show their emotion because for you everyone live happily forever which is why you prefer joyful character like lady Hawke.

Gotta love BSN. My opinion is better than your opinion. If you don't share it, I'll vilify yours!

It would have been nice to see the warden smile once in a while, but I still find myself going back to Origins, after beating it over a dozen times. The game just has so much more depth and polish than DA2, which was rushed out the door to capitalize on the success of Origins.

Yeah it would have been nice to get a smile from the Warden but really I have no problem with the wooden expression. Actually I like it as it allows me to role-play how my character feels in any given situation. Unlike Hawke where its already completely pre-defined..

It was meant as a reply to an insulting remark from someone who have no clue on how to roleplay a blank slate character.

Nope. It's horrible for an RPG. I can't create and roleplay my character. Instead I was forced to drive BioWare's blue, purple or red Hawke all the way

That lies with your ability to roleplay, not the game's execution. I managed to make a

Sarcastic Hawke who angers quickly; hates being lied to; enjoys violence; knows when to shut up; has very little moral boundries and has a fetish for elves. She likes being paid for any favours she does and has a weak spot for children. She's understanding, yet can't tolerate arrogance and has a general dis-respect for authority figures, mostly because it collides with her own authority.

I could do more in Origins, but from the options given to me in DA2, I can do alot.

Can you make sarcastic bitter and cold/withdrawn Hawke ( due to the death of his family member) ? I can do that with my Cousland due to Cousland's emotionless expression.

I bet you can't,  since your dear uncle Gamlen will recognize you as a clown? Remember those funny faces you make while waiting for Aveline to show up in Hangman? or wait, your sarcastic Hawke joyfully entered Kirkwall not long after his/her brother/sister died crushed by the Ogre.

Is that the kind of your sarcastic Hawke? /sarcasm.

Yes I can, and I did. Easily.

Picking the right options you can do many things. After her mother died I wasn't picking any sarcastic/witty options, even when her LI came she was a ****. Hell, you should have seen her after the Qunari started rioting...she was NOT in the mood.

But three years later she got on with her life.

As I said... you can do a lot, but not as much as Origins. A silent protagonist is always preferable, but not a requirement.

You're right, but next time, when pointing out flaws, being specific helps.

Bad fetch quests would have been better, no? Because look at the Sacred Ashes quest. That's just one long drawn out fetch quest, as well looking for Branka. But they were great quests.

The Witcher is easily 85% fetch quests, yet it's an amazing RPG.

The camera was facing you're back for a reason y'know? You're supposed to imagine your Warden's emotions. You're supposed to make up your Warden's tone. That's the beauty of a silent protagonist.

As you can see poster who's very angry of DA2 (not you, the other guy.) I'm not taking sides here.

I have had fun with both DAO and DA2. I just like DA2 more. I like the story. Playing a mage and a rogue is way more fun in DA2 than DAO. I have no problem roleplaying my Hawkes, but YMMV.

Picking neutral options turn this part around. Of course you're going to get something out of character when you're aiming to be Cloud but keep picking the damned sarcastic options.

By the way, you're a very bitter person. You should check a therapist out, or maybe today's not your day? Who knows...

Some characters deal with their emotions and heartbreaks through humor. Some people show no emotion. The warden's emotions and heartbreak is left to your headcanon.which is fine. I would have loved to have my warden (human noble) creack a smirk or smile when confronting Howe. It would have been nice to see that on screen.

You're not required by any means to always pick the same response "tone". Many times, my sarcastic Hawke would pick nice or angry options if it seemed appropriate.

If anything, I didn't like how my sarcastic Hawke automatically tells Ninette's husband, "Your wife isn't coming back, but here's a ring. It looks shiny!", with no input from me. I like playing characters with a sense of humor, but I don't also want them looking like an a**hole at times just because their dominant personality is sarcastic.

I would describe many of DA2's features as antithetical to fun. And while many of them could comfortably be ignored (I think the unreliable narrator dramatically lessened the negative impact of the voiced protagonist), ultimately it was the quest design and combat mechanics that reduced DA2's gameplay to an unpleasant chore.

I think DA2 was thoroughly unfun from start to finish.

Going to have to agree with this. Much as I love DA:O, it had major pacing issues that DA2 did much better.
