Hallo,
400 years have passed since the defeat of the Reapers. The memories that
it needed the threat of extermination and Commander Shephard’s sacrifices to
unite a galaxy of various races against a common enemy have never been
forgotten. But the memories of those days seem very distant now and have started
fading.
The Mass Relays have been repaired, the destructed infrastructure left by the
war was rebuilt and the wounds left by the losses during that time were mended,
leaving invisible scars within the soul of the Milky Way nevertheless.
A new age began with the extinction of
the reaper threat, an age of blossoming prosperity, collaboration, negotiation,
support and unity between the galaxy’s races, (synthetic and organic). And most
importantly an age of freedom and peace.
And during this time the last human who became a SPECTRE resigned and disappeared…
Two years later a spaceship with exactly this person lands on the
citadel and he directly heads towards the council because his was given an
appointment concerning a very pressing issue.

In the council’s office:
Ex-Spectre: “Councilor Catan, you requested to see me?”
Councilor Catan: “Indeed I did. Your exceptional skills are needed to solve a very annoying problem.”
Ex-Spectre: “I am honored Sir, but I am not a Spectre anymore, in fact I have not been one for two years now. Shouldn’t you assign one of your Spectres to solve this matter, whatever it is.”
Councilor Catan: “I know that you are not a Spectre anymore and I would not ask for your help if situation was not so desperate. I wish I could take one of my Spectres but at the moment it is not possible. I guess you did not miss to notice that it is only me talking to you today and not the entire council.”
Ex-Spectre: “It struck me. And normally the ambassador from earth is also always present when an assignment to human Spectre is given.”
Councilor Catan: “Concerning the absence of the human ambassador you gave the explanation already yourself. You are not a Spectre anymore so the ambassador’s presence is also not necessary. To be honest he does not even know you are here. And the other council members are too afraid to go to appointments at the moment. I cannot blame them, knowing the circumstances.”
Ex-Spectre: “What circumstances?”
Councilor Catan: “You do not know what happened during the last month? Do you not watch the news?”
Ex-Spectre: “I try to avoid any kind of contact with the center of our galaxy. I live a peaceful live, far away from politics and all the trouble the galaxy is in.”
Councilor Catan: “I guess so, no one even knows on which planet you are living. I took us a month to find a way to contact you. You have cut all ties to your past. For heaven’s sake I know it was the right move from you. You did it to protect your daughter. How old is she now? Three?”
Ex-Spectre: “Yes, she is three. But we are wandering from the real subject. What happened that you need my help so urgently?”
Councilor Catan: “The council was attempted to be killed. Two times. The first one was without success and the Spectres did a good job keeping it from the public and the news, erasing all traces. But during the second one we lost councilor Ralia.”
Ex-Spectre: “The Asari? The Asari will not take this lightly.”
Councilor Catan: “Exactly. The peace we have been enjoying for the last 400 years is balanced on a knife’s edge at the moment. The public is afraid of the Asari’s retaliation in case we are not able catch the murderer. I do not believe the Asari will seek open war, they are not a species seeking for revenge.”
Ex-Spectre: “I would expect that they send one of their Justicars to deal with this.”
Councilor Catan: “Probably. Anyway the councils’ movements, appointments and locations have always been top secret. We suspect to have a mole within our own ranks, maybe even within the Spectres. For this reason I need your help.”
Ex-Spectre: “As much as I want to help you, I do not think I can. I just want to see my daughter grow-up and protect her from the scum, which is an enemy of mine due to my time as Spectre.”
Councilor Catan: “If you are afraid about your daughter’s safety, bring her to the Citadel. I will guarantee her safety, I will assign my best men to look after her, to protect her. And if you do not want to do it for the council, the Citadel or the galaxy then do it to help an old friend, to protect the life of an old friend. I still remember the time when we tried to make the galaxy a better place to live together Seraph.”

Ex-Spectre: “My old friend, that was during my time as Spectre and
during yours in the Turian military. Times have changed. We both have changed.”
Councilor Catan: “I hope so. Otherwise we would not have learned from
our mistakes. Will you help the council because an old friend is requesting a
favor?”
Ex-Spectre Seraph: “And you can guarantee my daughter’s safety?”
Councilor Catan: “I will protect her with my own life, if necessary.”
Ex-Spectre Seraph: “It is not a small favor you are asking for. I will
endanger my own life to protect yours…”
Councilor Catan: I know that and I would not ask you for help, if I did
not have to. I never told you that but the truth is we never had such a good
Spectre like you. Maybe the only one who was better was Commander Shepard, and
he died a long time ago.”
Seraph: “I do not wish to compare myself with Shepard. He faced an enemy
I hope I will never have to face… Do we have any leads concerning your problem?”
Councilor Catan: “The second attempt was conducted with a very special
bomb, nothing we have seen so far. So it must have been bought from a special
weapons dealer or smuggler. I will reinstate you as a Spectre but we will not
upload any further data about you in our system. We still do not know who he is
watching or hacking into our systems and more importantly how. I will also grant
you access to the Spectre’s office and equipment. Look into the files we have
about the assassination attempts. Maybe you will see something we overlooked.”
Seraph: “Do you really think I am the right person for this?”
Councilor Catan: “I am afraid that you are the only person for this. Oh,
and maybe you should speak to some of your old friends on the Citadel to get
some further information and to do so some catching up.”

Also vom Schreibstil her gefällt mir das Ganze schon mal sehr gut.

Saying goodbye to the daughter
Seraph returns to his ship and goes to the sleeping cabin of his daughter. A Geth is protecting the door.
Seraph: “Is Caroline awake my good old friend?”
Geth: “She woke up ten minutes ago”
Seraph: “Thank you, Gabity.”
Gabity: “It is always a pleasure watching over little Caroline.”
Seraph: “I did not just mean that…”, and walks into the room of his little daughter.
Seraph walks to his daughter and takes her up in his arms giving her a kiss on her cheek.
Seraph: “Good morning my little, sweet princess. Did you sleep well?”
Caroline: “Good morning, daddy. Yes, I did.”
Seraph: “Are you hungry?”
Caroline nods with still sleepy eyes.
“Ok, then let us go on the Citadel and grab something to eat.”
Seraph gets out of the room with his daughter still in his arms and asks Gabity to come with them. The three walk to through the Citadel, Caroline pointing every now and then on things around and asking like “Daddy, daddy look, look, over there, what is that?”, and Seraph answering patiently until they reach the restaurant and order something to eat. After the meal Seraph starts explaining to his daughter.
Seraph: “Caroline?”
Caroline: “Yes, dad?”
Seraph: “There is something I need to talk about with you?”
Caroline just stares at him with her blue eyes.
Seraph: “How would you like to stay for a while on the Citadel with a friend of mine?”
Caroline: “Sounds great but why not with you?”
Seraph: “I got a job and will be gone for a while, so it might be a while until you will see me again my princess.”
Caroline: “When will you be back?”
Seraph: “I do not know, but I come see you as often as possible. I would leave you with Gabity but taking his cooking-skills into account I am afraid you might starve to death my sweetie. No offense Gabity. And I will need our Geth-friend to support me during the job, if he is willing.”
Gabity: “Of course.”
Caroline: “I do not like being separated from you, daddy.”
Seraph: “I do not like it either but…”
Caroline: “I know daddy, a man’s got to do what a man’s got to do.”
Seraph looking surprised and then smiling, “did you teach her that Gabity?”.
Gabity: “Not a single word.”
Seraph: “Ok, but I need to ask you a favor Gabity. Could you go back to ship and prepare it for departure and join me after I brought Caroline to the apartment where she will stay until we are finished with the job for the council? I do not want to know them any more of my associates than necessary.”
Gabity: “The council? Are you sure you want to do this?”
Seraph: “It is for an old…friend.”
Gabity nods and takes off.
Caroline and his daughter stand up and start walking towards the arranged apartment for the little girl.
Meanwhile in the council’s champer:
Voice:” Are you sure he will accomplish this mission?”
Councilor Catan: “I am positive that he will track down our enemies and bring them into custody or kill them, if necessary.
Voice: “Then all will work out?”
Councilor Catan: “Not immediately of course, but soon. And I will give him an extra push, if that is what it takes…”
Councilor Catan ends the comm-link and looks at his antique sculpture for a long time.
At the apartment for Caroline
Councilor Catan: “I have been expecting you two. Hello little girl, my name is Councilor Catan.”
Caroline: “Hello, councilor Cat…, Cat…, daddy can I call him uncle cat, I cannot pronounce his name…”
Councilor Catan laughs: “Of course my dear. I will leave you two alone. There will always be two security guards in front of that door and two people inside taking good care of your daughter Seraph.”
Seraph: “Thanks.”
“If you excuse me, I have an appointment I need to get to.”, and the councilor leaves in a hurry.
Seraph: “So my sweet, little world, time for goodbye at least for now.” Seraph hugs his daughter long and intensely, gives her a kiss on his cheek.
“Daddy let go, I cannot breathe.”
“Sorry. Here take this.”
“What is this?” asks Caroline.
“It is a communication device. Whenever you need to talk to me just press that green button and you will be able to. But do not show it to anyone, only use it in secret so no one sees. I might not be able to answer you immediately but I will.”
“But there are two other buttons, one blue and the other one is red.”
“The blue one pops out a hologram of me singing your lullaby in case you are not able to sleep. And the red button, well just press that button if you are in danger and I will come to rescue you. But do not lose this device and do not…”
Caroline: “..show anyone?”
“Good girl. Daddy loves you.”
“I love you, too daddy.”
“Take good care of her, will you?”
The staff nods and after taking a final look at his daughter Seraph leaves.
