My roommate and I are trying to play ME3 together. We both have our own separate EA accounts and ME3 copies and can play online. However, we can't seem to play online together; only one of us can connect to the EA networks at a time. What can I do to fix this so we can play together? (We're in teh same house so on the same network).
Please explain any fixes in very plain speak; not real knowledgeable/technical. Thank you!

First question - Can you both be on Xbox Live at the same time? I'm going to assume you can, and I'll also go and assume that you both have XBL Gold accounts.
I'm not sure what you can do beyond the normal network optimization steps; making sure UPnP is active, good NAT settings and trying a static IP if you haven't already. I'm not sure if opening ports on your router will be a good thing or a bad thing with 2 people on the same network, but you could try both ways.
Your next steps would be contact either or both EA support and/or Xbox support. Advance warning: Xbox support is usually very helpful getting network issues resolved, EA support not very much. I recommend calling Xbox first
