Random fight encounters are what's left. Some of them are quest related, others just happen. And beware of the wolves.

Because that's arguably the hardest fight in the game :D

There's not much to tell really. You're ambushed and surrounded by 8 wolves and have to survive overwhelm spam. And there is 10 traps lying around just to make it more difficult. Bloody hard and frustrating fight on lower levels. There is no reward besides the satisfaction.

Are the random attacks when leaving camp a regular event? It is getting really anoying having to fight a crapload of Hurlocks every time I try to get to a city or castle. Maybe I did something wrong or I should be doing something differently, any help would be appreciated

There are no random events in the game, just their timing are semi-random, since they occur only after a specific action or event. And they absolutely occur, contrary to a truely random event, which may not occur at all.

If you have Warden's Keep it'll occur eventually. You can collect ore from the meteor and bring it to the smith at the Keep after you finish clearing the baddies out of it (the keep obviously, not the meteor ore lol).

You can also get the meteor event if you do not have Warden's Keep.

Are you sure about that? I was pretty sure that it was part of the Warden's Keep DLC...

I just had that wolf encounter.
Seriously, that's the encouter everyone finds difficult? Wolves have a terrible Mental Resist score. Spells like Sleep or Waking Nightmare work wonders on them.

I don't have any of the DLCs installed(haven't even logged in) and I got it on my first play through. Can't do anything with it though.

Try it again while soloing and on the Nightmare difficulty. With a DW Warrior with terrible knockdown/overwhelm resistances.

That's what it is, you can get the star metal but the smith is only available when you complete Warden's Keep.

This event USUALLY happens for me when I leave Lothering for the first time (around L7-ish, and nothing better than a single set of heavy chainmail on Alistair). Might as well be tissue paper for all the good it seems to do. No Sleep yet and the Mind Blast thing works for only a couple of seconds maybe.

Call it cheating but I usually just reload and try to go for another random encounter - sure its beatable but it's damn frustrating. Someone posted a pic in another thread about this being the hardest battle in the game (albeit on solo nightmare) and I agree - especially at low levels when you're terribly fragile. That cracked me up big time. :D

On that note, it usually takes me a few tries to get a different random encounter ... waiting a few seconds seems to help change the encounter "seed" and give me a different result. *shrug*
