So, this is what I would like to do. Any ideas much appreciated.

1. Alllow the player to simply choose to be a male or a female protagonist.
2. Make the two protags myself.

Character generation and I are not friends. I managed to make one custom protag by making the chargen script fail and then putting my own character .utc into the override folder in place of Jaden, and renaming it default_player.utc. Which shows I have exactly no understanding of how the whole character generation procedure works.

More info. I want the protagonist to be male or female Tranquil, player choice. So, there's no relevant class. I'm not too worried if they are assigned a class. There's no combat intended, so it doesn't really matter. Inventory, whatever, just wearing Tranquil robes. I could just use a female protag, but there's a reason why I'm interested in including both.

Thanks.

To skip character generation you have to use the script described here: http://social.biowar...cter_Generation You can override default_player.utc in your module to set a custom morph, etc. I doubt it is possible to offer a choice between male or female doing it that way though. If you want to do that, the best (only?) way is to go through char gen as per usual, but set up custom classes so you only have the choice of a Tranquil (and presumably remove all sex/races except m/f Humans). More info on that here: http://social.biowar...act_on_the_game

Couldn't you just make two characters and use a dialogue option to choose the player character? You could even do it during your intro in an elegant sort of way, i.e. during a dialogue sequence or cutscene.  Simply use a plot flag to trigger the script - no need to do it on module start, as you'll get a temporary default character assigned until the choice is made.

That had crossed my mind, oddly enough. It's not entirely consistent with the opening I had in mind which is a slideshow. Still trying to figure it out, but may come back to that.

(Like, you can set flags during a slideshow, but the player can't pick this or that in a slideshow, right?)

Well, if you open with a conversation after the slideshow, the player can make a selection during it before you show his/her character ("Ah, yes, I see you've requisitioned a Rod of Fire from our stores.  And your name is... ?").

Alternately you can simply have a short dialogue replacing character generation, i.e. set up the two models, a camera pointing at both of them, and then a simple male/female selection, then go right into the slideshow from there.

Either way it's not hard to do at all, as you're just assigning X characters to the player in a script, but the question is more just how you want to go about it, preferably in a creative way.  See the opening of Fallout: New Vegas as an example.

Hmm. That's not a bad idea.

Because (I'm working with what I know I can do, rather than the other way around) I could also have 2 slightly different slideshows because of that.

(I don't want to make character selection part of the game, per se. Just before. This is a good idea. Thanks. I'll give it a shot.)
