Halo (for example) is better than Mass Effect (and DA2/SWTOR)

You see it happening near the end of the third game. Apparently they just give up after that since you don't fight them any longer and nobody mentions them as a threat anymore.

Um well, roughly half of the Covenant split from the other half during Halo 2.  The Elites were on the humans side. The Covenant was in Civil War as of  the end Halo 2.  The Covenant wasn't defeated in Halo 3, but the Prophet of Truth was killed.  The leader of the Covenant.  Couple this with the fact that the Covenant Loyalists around the Ark were defeated by the Elites makes a lot of sense as to why there were no Covenant at the end of the game.   The game should have been a little more clear that the Loyalsts above the Ark were defeated.  I would've liked to see a cutscene of the Shipmaster destroying them.

Didnt you fight the Covenant in the last level though?  I seem to remember them being involved again at the end.

and the hub debate:  Noveria and Feros both had side missions, optional areas to explore, and off planet quests that could be triggered on those planets.  That makes them small hubs IMO.

Nah, the final level is strictly flood/sentinels.

On the very last level of Halo 3 you only fought the flood.

And a bit on the hub debate.  I kinda agree with Jvolikas here.  Feros and Noveria weren't as expansive as the Citadel, but they were still hub worlds.

It is the gaming world equivalent of telling your child to be more like the cool kids at school, failing to realize that the cool kids became cool just by being themselves (may not be applicable in some states in USA and in certain other countries).

That's a nice sentiment, but hardly true. Cool kids become cool kids by conforming to socially accepted standards of behavior and good looks. It's what the entire concept of "cool" is based around.

Anyway, you have a good point, but I see no way that this by itself can make HALO better than Mass Effect. It's easy to know what you are when there is so damn little to know.

Contrast Mass Effect, which attempts to be everything for everyone and ends up being nothing for no one, aping after CoD, Battlefield and Gears of War and taking and mashing together story elements from Halo and Deus Ex. Similarly, DA2 was altered to be like the wildly popular Mass Effect, whereas DA:O was the first BioWare game in a while to just do its own thing. And SWTOR, naturally, tried to contend with WoW by uniting its gameplay with the enormous expanded universe of the Star Wars franchise.

That is such a complete load of crap. Almost every combat game in existence could be accused of taking elements from other games. Gears of War copied Resident Evil 4. Halo copied Half Life and Doom.

ME2: B+ RPG / B ACTION
ME3: F- RPG / B+ ACTION

I agree 100% with op hopefully mw4 will be an RPG were there are hub camps and your commander gives you quests and you build your soldier with at least 6 origins then they will understand.

It's amazing how far graphics have come in just 11 years. Imagine the graphics in another 11 years if the curve continues to follow the preceding rate.

I'm betting two console generations and we'll be at photorealism. PC will hit it slightly before.
