Dont forget that they will be keeping paraphrasing and icons, some people even asked for a Deus EX type system where it could also display the full text but they said no to that idea.

My response below

> I don't mind a voice actor or set protagonist. I enjoyed deus ex hr, witcher 2, and alpha protocol and all of those games have a voice actor and set protagonist.

> I dont mind da2's combat. I liked it... it just needs to be fleshed out more and have more actual strategy and options.. Deeper skill tree too

> Multiplayer concerns me in a game like dragon age

> Iconic looks? Hmm i'll need to actually see this to form an opinion

> I hate Orleasians accents but it's cool that we will actually be there

> Mage and Templar conflict is cool. I just hope bioware puts more moral ambiguity with both factions... especialy with the mages. I don't wanna see hella blood mages like last time.

What we don't know:

How big of a world will we be able to explore and how many cultures or countries will we visit.
How long of a game will it be; Origins 70-80 hour game, or DA2 25-35 hour game.
If Orleasians will be speaking with French accents or mostly British accents with only main Orleasians speaking the French accent.
Anything about the possible new companions other than a warrior, rogue and mage.
Anything about returning companions.
If they'll more conversation options like Origins or follow the limited ME system again.

Did I miss anything?  Am I wrong about anything?

What we actually know:
Nothing. The game hasn't been announced.

What is likely:
What's listed above as 'what we know'

Everything that is discussed here is just rumour and speculation. Some of it is very much likely, others, less so. Absent direct confirmation from a developer, which can not have happened yet as the game hasn't been announced, it's all guess work.

Bioware is in the position of being able to completely change directions and make DA3 a web based MMORPG with ponies and unicorns in a land of magic candy and not contradict anything they've said before. In short, they still have the option of changing their minds about any elements in any future game.

I haven't read anywhere that they'll be bringing back the conversation wheel or confirmation of paraphrasing with icons so I left that out.  However, the absence of any mention on these topics could in itself be a confirmation that they'll keep that same format.

To be fair, all of that list has been confirmed by a developer (David Gaider) in various threads the past few months. Threads saying "Bioware, here is a possible option you could do instead of the dialogue wheel/paraphrasing system/voiced protagonist/iconic looks for companions" and he hopped in those threads and said, point blank, "we are keeping all of these features, with some tweaks, so the threads railing against them are pointless." (Paraphrased by me, of course.) :P

So, while nothing has been officially announced, Gaider has popped in threads and said "quit your complaining, its what you're getting."

Quietly optimistic that some of DA2's rough, unfinished edges will be improved upon.

These "what we know" are from conversations of statements made by Bioware devs.

1) VO-- David Gaider has posted that they will not go back to the silent protagonist and continue with the VO for DA3.  Take that with the fact that a VO means the protagonist will have to be set with only one origin story.

2) Same DA2 combat- Mike Laidlaw said that they would leave this as is and not go back to the Origins slower, shuffling style.

3) Multiplayer- It's a given since EA announced last year that all of its games will have multiplayer and the fact that Bioware has posted job openings for game developers with MP experience.

4) Iconic looks for companions with different iconic looks to equip--That has been posted by David Gaider with concept art four months ago.

5) 6) & 7)  Orleasians, Ending the Mage/Templar conflict, Mage/Templar conflict--  The leaked DA survey about the protagonist, the plot for DA3 and the concept art that came with it may be nothing more than a rumor.  Or it may be true.  I'll grant that we don't know for certain if they're will be any Orleasians or Mage/Templar conflict; but, given the ending of DA2, the novel Asunder  +  David Gaider posting that the next game will be somewhere "French", its a pretty safe bet as saying the sun will rise in the morning.

Dude,

I'm not disputing the provenance of the remarks. My personal belief is that everything you listed will turn out to be in the next game. The point is that it still isn't carved in stone.

They can change their minds. It's probably highly unlikely that they will, but they can.

Regards These Suggestions.............

It'll have a voiced actor; so guaranteed set protagonist again. - PLEASE NO

Same combat as DA2, with auto-attack - PLEASE NO!!!!

Multiplayer - NO. I'm not on Xbox Live, I'm not going to fork out stupid cash for a top end PC just to play a game. If Bioware/EA are want to pull a more casual audience in then why are they alienating those who don't play online???

Iconic looks for squadmates, er, companions that you can switch to different iconic looks. - ???

Orleasians - Cool, so long as the races remain a focal point as opposed to nationalities.

Protagonist will be trying to end the Mage/Templar Conflict - Everything that Bioware can do to avoid any need to play or remind us all of DA:2 the better. The whole point of the circle was to add weight to a more beliveable world where mages could exist, but were not commonplace in everyday society (so you couldn't just have mages do everythig with magic). It worked a treat and if DA:2 could be explained away as some type of bad Dynesty-esq nightmare then all the better.

Precisely. Back on the ME2 boards, I believe Chris Priestly had changed the name of Phaedon's thread from "Confirmed Features" to "Known Features", and for a very important reason - Features in Game Development can get thrown out as quickly as they were added in, and you can't necessarily consider everything "Confirmed" to be in the final build when it's made gold. Nothing is guaranteed. For all we know, Dragon Age III may be a free to play MMO.

Dun dun dun.

I have my DA series for the PS3, so I don't have to pay $5 a month to play multiplayer.  Unfortunately, my ME series was on Xbox so I was locked out of MP for that game. Although,  after a couple of years playing MP, I don't think of that as a big loss.

Thank you.  Which is why I put "What we know" as opposed to "What has been confirmed".

I cant remember which thread it was but here on the BSN David Gaider mentioned that they plan to keep the wheel and paraphrasing and he also said they discussed having full text but decided against it

Yep.

In fact, if I had some real gumption, I'd dig up all the information we have on DA3 just from Gaider comments alone and start a thread. I just have the nagging feeling it would somehow be locked very quickly and I really would hate to do all that work for nothing.

Yeah, I think DA3 will be a bioware masterpiece from what I've heard so far.

And what exactly do you base that opinion on, since we've heard almost nothing conclusive?

This is really the only thing that she can base her opinion on:

It'll have a voiced actor; so guaranteed set protagonist again.
Dialogue wheel with paraphrases.
Same combat as DA2, with auto-attack
Multiplayer
Iconic looks for squadmates, er, companions that you can switch to different iconic looks.
Orleasians
Protagonist will be trying to end the Mage/Templar Conflict
More Mage/Templer conflict!

I expect it to be good. What some people seem to forget is that the DA team is different from the ME team and from what I have readed, the DA team has learned from DA 2 (Although I mostly blame EA).

Even if the online was free I just really don't have any desire to play on-line games. Me playing these games are my time to unwind and relax away from all the annoying realities of work, finances, relationships, etc. I'm a reltively casual gamer and it just baffles me as to why EA or any games company thinks that casual gamers focus on online play.

There's loads of us out there who were raised on SNES and Megadrive games and we just want to plug in and play - no faffing, no online, just give us something to lose ourselves in for a few hours. I'm already contemplating not buying a next gen console because of the Steam-style setups which have been suggested.

But are the teams so different, in ME2 we had iconic companion armours same as DA2.

In ME2 we had companions in fixed areas who only spoke to you after certain missions were done, same as DA2.

ME2 end boss that doesnt fit the setting but is there just to be cool, same as DA2.

ME2 out of combat skills cut out same as DA2.

ME2 dialogue wheel, DA2 same.

ME2 paraphrasing, DA2 same.

ME3 auto-dialogue, DA2 same.

ME3 ending that was rushed, DA2 same.

I am sure there is many more so when people come out and say that we should have faith that the teams were different I say how much. And by reading what some devs say on the forums it seams that they might of not learned from what a fair amount of people think were the mistakes of DA2.

EA/Bioware need to realize that the second they release a trailer with a talking protagonist the pre-order count will drop like a stone.

Hawke was a **** however you played him/her

And I'm just watching a Youtube vid of the DA:2 combat to remember fully what it was like.........woeful John-Woo rubbish.....bleeeuuurggg

Please don't give us a mix of DA:O & DA:2 Bioware! Just forget DA:2 entirely, give DA:O a few minor tweaks and we'll be fine.

Now Bioware marketing is terrible I wonder if they will try to copy Skyrim on the marketing front as well.

What's scary is that they are PURELY looking at sales figures - Skyrim, IMO, was boring as hell and not a patch as an overall experience on Morrowind.

They seem to be copying a franchize which is deserting it's roots and heading for a big fall similarly to how the Final Fantasy series is, and it shows by how many people have turned they're back on DA since DA:2.
