You know how they succeed? Cause other players carry them. All the time when I PUG it is the same story, playing with 300 ms but have to do most of the work. If I slip up and bleed out, then Mission Fail screen with pop up. Despite playing Gold successfully, my faithful team and myself, we don't step into Platinum because we know we aren't ready.

These people you speak of have delusions of adequacy - much at the expense of others' sanity

It's platform related I think. I play mostly PUGs and win ratio is high. I choose U/U/G and select only matches where:
- all of the players are level 15+ (or one is low level, but the rest is 18+),
- if there are two N7 Shadows there is high probability that squad won't reach wave 10,
- too much lags = no sense of playing. Of course you know about it when map loads, thanks to BW devs.

Platform: PC.

Not all PUGs are bad. Sometimes you'll get a really bad lobby and wipe out, but most of the time you get through.
No fun without danger right?

Gold PUGs are infuriating at the moment.

I actually equipped two uncommon weapons to my GE and started doing solo Silver matches, which actually turned out to be the most fun I've had playing this game all day.

I win most of my gold/plat games, 90% of the time carrying the team by a very wide margin.

I feel your pain, sucks when others can never seem to properly hold their corner and you have to spend the match holding your AND bailing them out.

I've only played a handful of Platinum (all farming) so can't really comment on that. As for Gold, one or two good players can carry the rest. Gold is actually quite easy once you get a feel for the strengths and weaknesses of your characters.

The only noobs I will not play with are hosts who refuse to use equipment, not because they are bad but because they will usually rage quit. This is especially annoying after I worked so hard for that gold revives medal.

I used to have a hell of a time wiith gold randoms. Now I do just fine because I search for reapers gold because that's the one faction I'm really good at on gold, Cerberus is so-so and geth is flipping stunlock city. I mainly run a Krogan Sentinel now because with the boost to tech armor a while back, he can tank even more. I'm just mainly torn with which assault rifle to carry on him, on one hand I want to take the PPR but I just don't get as many shots with it as I do with the destroyer with devastator mode.

OT: Randoms are just that. Random. Sometimes you get competent players, other times you get the people that you need to carry. I had to do that a couple times Saturday night, I distinctly remember my time I had to do it on London. Had to kite enemies from one side of the map to the other. Keeping away form the banshees while killing the muraders and cannibals. But op, those dudes that were talking trash afterwards shouldn't have been saying anything cause they didn't do too well themselves. You were carrying the team. If you weren't there, they probably wouldn't have even made it to wave 3 even.

I play random gold matches exclusively and almost never run into the kind players that these type of threads love to hate. But then again I dont give a flying turd about points.

I just had a loooong Hydra/Cerberus game. This guy used all his missile before wave five and the Asari Vanguard kept trying to Stasis the Atlas'. At least I had a semi-competent Salarian w/Black Widow. Unfortuantely he kept getting insta-killed.

these types of comments are counter-productive here on the BSN. you should be ashamed of youself.

tl;dr: Does anyone have any idea how/if randoms win when most of them aren't good at the game?

To my shame: I play mostly FB:W. Yes, I would like to do the other maps as well, sometimes I try - I know I am good enough for it, since when i do most of the time I am last man/woman standing with 50% score ahead of everyone else. But I simply fail because the rest of the team most of the time can´t deliver the DPS my Geth infil/Demolisher can bring to boot. So, Firebase white it is, because at leaast everybody knows the tactics there.

From my ( thus limited ) experience, there are several keys to success with less skilled players.

1) A powerhouse in the team. Mostly someone who understands what kind of firepower you can deliver with demolisher/infiltrator and who does not try to melee stuff.

2) Cheap tactics. Banshee blocking on FB:W so you don´t have too move.

3) Abusing slipups in the AI coding, like salarian engineer with decoy being able to stop whole Geth trains in their tracks.

4) At least halfway competent teamplay. Most of them do understand the value of picking people up. Those who don´t or don´t have the awareness of where a teammate needs help ->

5) Fail. Simply as that. I have seen my fair share of Platinum Games on FB:W which where simply not salvageable by wave 2. They were simply overrun, because they had no engineer, played subpar classes with subpar loadouts and simply failed to even destroy one prime as he rounded the corner to shoot em in the back.

6) Brute forcing. Sometimes, there are those desperate enough, brute forcing their way through entire waves by spending a whole regiments consumables on the wave. Most often that wave is 6, when they know they won´t make it to wave 10 anyway, they brute force wave 6 and die in 7.

Yes, I think it´s very sad having destroyers in your team who you carry through platinum games, coming in at 40K points by the end of the match. I understand why a salarian engineer who is specced for decoy does not do as much. I also highly value biotics, who impede the enemy by using stasis, warp their armor and what not, for which they do not get any points.

TL;DR: But overall, it´s just a sad state platinum is in, because everybody and their mum are under the ill-conceived impression they are ready for platinum with a predator-X.

Edit: If anyone wants to take me on for a real platinum ride, just hit me on PC: Vanguard4. I have level4  consumables and amwilling to use em. If I finally get a team that knows more than how to farm FB:W and is willing to show me, I´d be in.

They simply don't, that's all, unless there will be somebody as you or me who will carry those miserable life forms to the end:P

Shhhh.....you'll distract them from their elitist hatefest potentially causing more topics like this to be made. Its best if we keep them all in one place.

Truth be told, most dirty 'randoms' aren't the deaf, dumb, inbred mouthbreathers that some BSN'ers make them out to be.

Wow, seriously OP? That's bad luck. I think I won all my non-farming PUG platinum matches today and I definitely wasn't carrying. The randoms I played with generally threw on level 4 consumables, knew wtf they were doing, and pretty much roflstomped the game. I think we finished one of the matches in 20 minutes. Not super fun, of course, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

you wanna know how they win?

Hi my name is Billy BadassME3MP Player,

I joined the pug...and by defaults it becomes MY PUG....you are just there! dont think for a second you mean anything....this aint about team work...in so much that you are there to get the attention of the badguys so i can do my thing. You die? it is only natural...YOU SUCK!! and dont think im gonna revive you...YOU SUCK and it would only be a waste of my precious time.

I aint gonna hop on my mic and waste my breath calling you noob during the game...im going to send you nasty messages letting you know how bad you were and how i had to carry you freaks... some call it playing solo with a audience....i call it a normal ME3MP session. Your welcome!!

as you spend those creds to get crap that we both know wont help you....remember who you leeched off of.

signed,
Billy BadassME3MP Player

You jest, but most of the people here never send people mean messages. Honestly, most people I play with, I tell them that they did fine, they just don't have the manifest that I do, and maybe they just need a bit more experience with spawn points. I also revive whenever it's safe, as many here do. I do know that some games earlier, they would have been fine, and I mostly did well because they were camping and I decided to play a bit more aggressively. I was good at objectives because I was a duration-spec'd human infiltrator (trying to prepare myself in case cryo blast gets buffed).

However, when you get to the end of the match and you're the only one with a revives medal, you outscored everyone by a substantial margin, and you capped the majority of the objectives, it's hard not to think that others weren't pulling their weight.

Also, my name isn't Billy.

Is normally easy to identity the thrash lobbies, so you just leave those and go for the ones that seem to have at least another decent player

I can pull my weight, but my best classes are not by any means *the* best classes, and it's very hard to carry with a human engineer. If everyone else is dead, it's wave 10, and it's just me and the escort drone and a horde of rocket troopers, we're probably not getting those credits. So when I say I play Gold as pure PuG 95% of the time, and make it to extraction at least 80% of the time, rest assured that it's not because I'm just That Leet. I don't know how we win, apart from I guess the same way anyone does, just playing classes we know and being familiar with the maps (first couple weeks after a new map is added, any game there is going to be a revivefest at best).

During objective weekends I tend to see round seven wipes like two-thirds of the time, though. Even when the objective is achievable on any difficulty. Don't know what that's all about.

Due to my odd work shifts, I often play PuGs andI would say 90% succeed, and that is counting extraction as a win, not end of wave 10.

This weekend however was full of PuGs on all levels, where people really seemed to be noobs, maybe not in N7 numbers but in mentality...I have never played so many matches where I was the only one with equipment loaded - Stronghold being my minimum in any game. Finding a UUG match that wasn't FBWGG was difficult as Quickmatch would shove me into a game in progress with people using peashooters....refusing to use consumables, refusing to revive others and infiltrators that wouldn't do the download 4 objectives.

So, yes, there are some days when I just want to smack my head against my keyboard.

Also as a Brit, I hate to tell you but country is not the relevent thing to lag, connection is. I have played with people across the world with no lag whatsoever, but have experienced terrible lag with those in the same country as myself. Most of Russia is terribad though....
