Only works if you are in the lobby, on PC Quickmatch is getting into the habit of games in progress 8/10 UUG...and we all know where it goes.

Pugs succeed because of the few trying casuals who use gears and equips.

I dont press go on a lobby unless others using some consumables. No consumable users are far more likely to quit out or afk.

Truth be told, most dirty 'randoms' aren't the deaf, dumb, inbred mouthbreathers that some BSN'ers make them out to be.

I've put in an ungodly amount of hours playing with randoms (Friend did the math. Upwards of 900 hours) and I'd say half of them are incompetent and need to be carried, a fourth are average and can hold there own, with the last fourth being truly "good" players.

Although, I have noticed that we need to have the "randoms argument" at least once a week here on BSN.

Bad randomws don't win, good randoms start to organise sooner or later and stop playing random.

I dunno, yesterday I had an extremely low N7 rating come into my gold lobby and he turned out to be one of the most skilled players I'd ever met. As in, our scores were tied. Every game. And we used different classes every game. Synergized extremely well with each other and he was smart enough to realize you can just laugh at banshees on stairs.

The other two guys didn't have a chance to kill anything at all, I'm afraid... So basically randoms succeed because there's always that one uberskilled player floating around the sea of lobbies out there just waiting to shove 3 other people in his/her backpack.

Let me make one thing extremely clear: I don't think I'm a great player, and I haven't said so either. That quote proves nothing.

Anyone, simply by virtue of visiting the forums and learning things like SMG ULM not working without a pistol ULM, or that the AJA's rank 5 power passive doesn't work, is going to end up carrying 99% of all gold/plat pugs they play.

So hooray for taking my quote out of context! That was not intended to showcase how uberleet I am, that was intended to showcase how BAD the average pug is... Not to mention my quote about the one uberskilled player was talking about THE OTHER GUY who came into my lobby, not me. Reading comprehension fail. Go back to school.

That's probably how it goes, come to think of it. I know that when I play more aggressively, others start to play more aggressively too, so if people are used to defending a position, they might get overwhelmed a bit if they leave it. That's almost certainly what would happen to me on Platinum, since I'm not really used to being mobile. If I saw someone surviving without doing that, though, I might tag along to get a look at how it works, or just to be close enough to revive if necessary.

That actually makes a lot of sense.

You randomly decide to bring up an old dead post from a thread weeks old and try to use it to attack me because evidently you're still not done trolling the living daylights out of me. You quote me out of context in an attempt to prove I'm 'elitist' or that I think I'm a great player or something when I've been all too clear about the fact that I'm average at best and you're STILL not done? What, are you going to actually start stalking all my posts now just to try to make me look bad?

Back on topic...
In my first 5 PUG Platinums i actually extracted in 3. I don't think enough credit is given to randoms - sure some are really really bad, but there are a lot of competent ones too. You don't need to be l33t to beat gold/platinum, if you have 2 or 3 randoms on your team who have enough sense to work together, even if they don't have the skills, teamwork makes up for it.

I don't know what to add except to say I feel exactly the same as the OP. I consider myself a good player but not a great player. Very, very rarely do I find a gold PUG where all 4 people are gold quality. It's sad, it really is. I wish there was a rating system where we could give (probably anonymous) ratings of other players.

The other day I was looking to unwind with an easy game so I went into silver with my adept, which was only lvl 10 from the promotion operation. There was a guy there playing a lvl 20 kroguard. N7 of like 2000. I forget which weapon he eventually settled on but I saw him with a Scorpion VII for a moment in the lobby, so he's obviously a very experienced player, right? Guy died on wave 2. On silver. With a 20 kroguard. How is that even possible? Oh, maybe because he thought kroguards should spam melee all the time. Banshee? Melee her!

<sigh> PUGs suck. Times like this I really think about trying to find a group of regulars to play with.

I usually pick my lobby, if I don't like it I leave. 85% of the time I play platinum, 10% gold and the other 5% starting off new character builds and challenges on silver or bronze. I will probably play more gold now that I've maxed everything, platinum was for the credit grind more than anything. I play 99% random matches with about 85 to 90% success rate. Sometimes I'll jump through 5 or 6 lobbies before I find a match to suit.

first...if you had only disagreed with me...no problem. opinions are opinions. you went that extra step and said i sucked....and we have never played a match together.  that bugs me.

On gold? Seriously. I am totally bad at this game. I never top score boards. I still have close to 100% win rate in gold games these days. It probably takes about 5-10 minutes longer without some self-proclaimed badass nuking all the spawn points to claim his fame and glory, but thats all there is to it. You are a greedy kill hogger and your pug is perfectly fine without you.

After 20 years plus of gaming and joining forums, I gotta tell you, this is great stuff. Ive been playing this game since release and Ive watched ZERO videos from here, took ZERO recommendations, have read ZERO build guides, and have taken ZERO advice.

Its not that the information on here is useless, its trying to navigate the threads of those that think they are gods gift to this game. My manifest was about 3/4 full before I even knew ULM was broken and I got that info from playing with randoms. People who dont even know this board exists.

Ive been working and playing with 4 different accounts just to keep things fresh. Its fun as hell. Playing with randoms is so much better than getting bored by doing the same runs over and over again with buddies. And if they sucked so bad, Id still be waiting to unlock my favorite weapon the Paladin. Or my Fury character.

Are we successful all the time? Hell no. What fun would it be to win every single game. However, the extraction rates ( and believe it or not MOST even want to get extraction, which I personally like), is well over 75% of the time.

Trust me, people dont need this forum to play the game competently and very very well.
