I'm not the kind of person who kicks people, generally (unless they are taking forever to ready up and didn't respond to a verbal hey-o), but oh man I kind of wanted to kick that dude. Seriously, what's the point of bringing an adept if all you're going to do is shoot things? A Fury is not meant to carry an AR and a shotgun! That's what nearly anything else is for!
I mean, I am not some kind of biotic god but this was just embarrassing.
EDIT: To make up for it, the cosmos also granted us with a dude who totally knew what he was doing, it was awesome. Played a QMI and tore the place up.
EDITEDIT: That Fury? Had an N7 of over 2000. Shameful.

It's just like in real life: combat engineers and medics get no respect, but you guys would not get as far without our support.

I don't know what to add except to say I feel exactly the same as the OP. I consider myself a good player but not a great player. Very, very rarely do I find a gold PUG where all 4 people are gold quality. It's sad, it really is. I wish there was a rating system where we could give (probably anonymous) ratings of other players.
The other day I was looking to unwind with an easy game so I went into silver with my adept, which was only lvl 10 from the promotion operation. There was a guy there playing a lvl 20 kroguard. N7 of like 2000. I forget which weapon he eventually settled on but I saw him with a Scorpion VII for a moment in the lobby, so he's obviously a very experienced player, right? Guy died on wave 2. On silver. With a 20 kroguard. How is that even possible? Oh, maybe because he thought kroguards should spam melee all the time. Banshee? Melee her!
<sigh> PUGs suck. Times like this I really think about trying to find a group of regulars to play with.
You are aware that the vanguard class is plagued with bugs right?
With the charge that never goes off and the fact that kroguard relies on melee damage reduction to avoid dead, is easy to dieif you have no experience with it or classes similar to it (no dodge), to me bad players aren't the ones that die sometimes, bad players are the ones that don't use gel or missiles when is needed or don't help with objectives in anyway.

When your first and only instinct upon engaging a banshee is to melee it repeatedly, you're a bad player. Period.

Platinum is more of a joke, really. Any hint of real teamwork is gone, it's just a pure DPS race to grind up the bosses as they waddle up in the conga line of every big bruser the game can handle on a map at one time. Rather then discourageing lone wolf behavior it enforces teamwork by more or less requireing a group to be in one area, shooting at one target. The most feared foe on Plat is especaly bad, as Banshees are pathatic when they aren't reducliously cheap.
The buggy programming certainly does not help. I had my Shadow hitting a Banshee with SS while another kept her attention. She sync grabbed me from nearly twenty feet, well after I was out of reach supposed and under cloak. The game literally slid me back across the map so she could sync kill me.

When we do gold matches, we have to put in a lot of effort in them or we lose. Simple as that, but listening to most of you on the forums, gold / plat so so easy that you all solo it on a daily basis. One thing I learned about onlines games with forums... people BS too much. Yes gold is doable, no its not cake. I did plat and I found it overwhelming, but i guess im too honest. PPL with N3000+ find plat hard, but people on the forums dont... go figure.

Sure, there are sucky groups out there, its not a big deal, you take the loss/quit and move on. Maybe even...(shock!)...play a round to two with your friends instead of whining about all the groups you have to "carry".

That isn't the same thing at all. You would get revive and assist medals, and I doubt you'd be talking about how awful the 4th player is if you're not playing well either. This isn't a score issue. If the geth engineer had used the turret to restore shields and used overload to strip Banshee shields, I'd consider him helpful. If the QME had used arc grenades to get Banshee barriers down, following with incinerate to trigger TBs, damage armor, and give a damage-over-time effect that stopped shields/barriers from coming back, and using Tactical Scan on enemies that were threatening the group, I wouldn't have been nearly as annoyed. If the AJA had used the Biotic Sphere either as a damage-reduction tool or as an enemy debuff set up in front of the door so that enemies took more damage, I'd have been happy, even if, as the high-DPS monster, I got most of the points.geezer117 wrote...
Low skill randoms do in fact read these threads. It's a good way to pick up tips. Being one myself, here's something for you who brag about "winning" (I assume you mean being top on the team in medals) to consider. I am always at the bottom or at best third. This is because I always build and play for a support role. The core of my builds is ED or Overload, and I carry one light weapon so I can fire powers almost continually. My tactic is to be everywhere taking down shields so you killers can run up your scores. (I don't contribute much to camping, so I look for the wide open maps.) I always run for objectives so you killers can keep doing your thing. I always run for rescues, because that is what support players do. I am quick to use gel if I know all the killers are busy killing. I am very good at taking down phantoms and pyros and marauders, but I have to stand back on bosses, throwing incinerates and warps, and leave them to you heavy weapons players.
It's just like in real life: combat engineers and medics get no respect, but you guys would not get as far without our support.
Maybe it played out that way and I didn't see it. The points are listed as a proxy for how helpful I was at killing enemies, but my main problem is that I also had the 15 revives medal and the 50 assists medal, meaning that I was both the damage-dealing monster and the support. I hope people that I complain about never stumble across this sort of rant, because I do think it's easy to just be off your game for a match, but damn if it isn't frustrating when it feels like nobody's pulling their weight.
EDIT: Also, by 'winning,' I mean completing all 3 objectives (I don't care much about extraction). Nothing to do with score or medals, at least in the title or OP.

I believe I carry my own weight in gold/platinum well enough, had my fair share of wondrous "heroic" moments, and the randoms I play with are mostly the same. I play exclusively, 99% of the time with randoms, and the weight of my frustration is very inconsequential compared to the joint successes I've had with these players.
I believe this set of problems and issues you talk about are more pronounced on consoles. I take a little offense when the word "random" and something negative gets thrown about together because I am defensive of the myriad of good random players I've played with on the PC who knows what they're doing. I would perhaps rest easier if all future threads like these were more specific on titles, like "How do random players on xbox/ps3 win gold/platinum?", but that's just me, so feel free to ignore.
In any case, It's all about mindset; if a game starts being frustrating enough that it registers in your brain as such, then clearly it will be less enjoyable for you. Bear the responsibility of our frustrations, or better manage our expectations for things we clearly cannot effectively control and keep on having fun. The alternative is to build a network of trusted players whom you can depend on, which you may or may not already have, and stick to it if that's more fun for you. But I'm not here to tell you how to play, that's your choice.
So there you go, my very own wall of text on my opinion, which I place no importance on but am just sharing because I just felt like it. And also, because I love my random teammates on the PC.

Gold is cake, many of us probally clutch solo the higher rounds daily.
Plat. isn't cake but it isn't difficult either, 4 players that have knowledge of endgame play styles working together can breeze through plat.
I'm 5k N7 and I don't find plat hard, just time consuming with a bad team.
2 plats vs 1 gold time wise if your group blows is more what I look at in pugs.

Platinum? It's not fun, it's a DPS-Wh*** fest, based on certain classes and camping rooms. I admit I liked the idea of throwing in all the enemies at you, but it's just a large joke. Also whenever I get in a game... let's just give an example of the Killfeed..
Player 1 [Missile Launcher] Atlas
Player 1 [Missile Launcher] Phantom
Player 1 [Missile Launcher] Assault Trooper
Player 1 [Missile Launcher] Assault Trooper
Player 1 [Missile Launcher] Assault Trooper
Player 1 [Missile Launcher] Geth Prime
Player 1 [Missile Launcher] Phantom
Player 1 [Missile Launcher] Geth Prime
Player 1 25 Assault Rifle kills +500
1 Killstreak + 5000
2 Killstreaks +10000
3 Killstreaks +20000
Player 1 [Missile Launcher] Brute
Player 1 [Missile Launcher] Geth Trooper
Player 1 [Missile Launcher] Geth Hunter
You get the point. It's great to see on these results on a Killfeed every single game you play. Absolutely no skill involved in doing this.

Most randoms are dumb. I went into a Gold PUG and saw a N7 112 with a level 12 Vanguard (not the host) waiting to be carried with a Katana III and no gears or consumables. I promptly left.
The next lobby I went into was filled to the brim with N7 20 - N7 76 idiots doing U/U/P with a bunch of common/low level weapons. There was a N7 Demolisher (level 8) with a Predator VII, N7 Paladin (level 1) with a Widow I and a Asari Adept (level 12) with a Claymore I. I face palmed when they all hit ready and left in a hurry. Oh, and may I add, they have no gears nor consumables equipped...
So, nowadays, I play Gold and Platinum exclusively with friends only. Solves the problem of random idiots trying to ride on your tailcoats.
The bolded part is total nonsense. I play almost exclusively randoms and there are a lot of good players that know what they are doing. Sure there are bad games and suspect players but you can usually spot them in the lobby before hand and if you play with them you get the type of game you deserve. Perhaps people remember the bad experiences more or somthing but randoms are no where near as bad as people make them out to be.

Gold PUG's can be VERY frustrating at times. There are small handfuls of skilled players who go public in those lobbies. I rarely PUG outside of friend's games. I end up either soloing a wave or reviving them constantly. It keeps me busy, but it can get very infuriating reviving them near a turret for the 8th time.

Your lucky. Your ME3 friend list is large enough to do that. Mine is only a handful strong so I end up doing PUGs anyway most of the time.
