That's more or less what we got, except without the derpy goggles or the ..you know. Success over Shepard.

So... Kai Leng symbolizes ME3 as a whole... quite an astute observation.
+1, good sir.

What if Kai Leng had his own squad? He'd be even more the Team Rocket of Mass Effect.

But then again what kind of conventional Military force (Like the Batarians or various Mercenary groups) would use such exotic troop varieties like Phantoms or guardians, probably none, you´ll probably end up with what we got allready: 1. Standard Rifleman 2. Special Weapon bearers 3. Officers and coordinators 4.Tech and Biotic Specialists.
The big problem with Mass Effect being that Shepard outclasses any standard rifleman by like 1 to 10 if not even more, if Bioware would have adjusted this for the third game with the ´´Rifleman class´ ´ being equal or somewhat weaker then shepard it would have made for a much more realistic combat experiance, take cerberus for example, why not have them wear the Cerberus Assault armor from Mass Effect 2, Male or Female, but in Black and Yellow Colours (Like Miranda´s AAP outfit) With their visor colours dependant on what class they are fullfilling (EG: Black= Rifleman, Yellow=Officer, Orange=Specialists).
This system also would function better with the Narative, Let´s take grissom academy for example, there are two Cerberus shuttles meaning there could only be a maximum of 24 Cerberus troopers, Shepard would then have to face 16 well trained Cerberus commandoes, 6 powefull Cerberus specialists and 2 utterly dedicated Cerberus Officers, that would be a hell of an experiance.

Different from the legion of phantoms and ground troops he lead against the Citadel?
Or his support team on Thessia?

well at least it would add something more to the game........... i mean kai leng by himself just seems like a very truamatised anime samurai with a futuristic twist.
maybe we could some how get a DLC out of it, say a sqaud of 4, each having their own level full missions for shep at the end of each mission fight the squad member for each level and beat them lol (boss fights) leading up to when you finally kick kai lengs ass?

The Deception Kai Leng we got in the game really was a lot like Team Rocket. Only that for some reason the writers felt the need to let him win in the most ridiculous manners all the time despite his overboarding incompetence.
Original Kai Leng with a squad might have been awesome...

From the way he was portrayed in ME Retribution I don't really see Kai Leng working well with others. I disappointed in the way he is portrayed in ME3, I was hoping that he would be the Cerebus equivelant of Shepard, instead we got some weird Raiden/Nightwing hybrid who didn't really do anything and had zero character development in the game.
For the sake of argument however I do like the concept of Kai Leng having his own squad even though it would be out of character for him to have one. It puts Kai Leng and Cerebus on a equal ground with Shepard and his squad. I know ME3's a game and that I should not take it too seriously but there is something about Shepard and 2 squadmates going up against 1 normal human man that does not sit right with me, it does not make Kai Leng look strong, it does not however make Shepard and co look week. The squad against squad concept would have worked better in the final game.
