Yeah, that's why I hate Kai Leng as much as I do, as others have mentioned, wasted opportunity. I haven't read the ME books myself, but having heard people who have describe Kai Leng as a competent, determined assassin and badass, it makes what we got more annoying.

The problem is, without a major re-write, I don't think there's anything which can be done to salvage ME3 Leng. Imagine they make a DLC where we get more interaction with him, and he has a cool squad that is interesting and not gimmicky. Then after the DLC ends, all the good work is undone as soon as you get to the next vanilla appearance of Leng.

I could go for a quirky miniboss squad.

The loudmouthed Centurion, with more brawn than brains.
The sassy Nemesis, who is constantly hitting on Kai despite his obliviousness
The loner Phantom, with more biotic power than she lets on.
And Kai Leng himself, the cocky leader of the bunch.

Golly Gee, it would be just like a superhero cartoon.

Just from what I've heard Kai Leng sounds incredibly badass in that, it makes me want to read it.

That's actually a great idea, and would work even better in a reverse plot scenario (were the plots of ME and ME2 are swapped, but the context remains the same.) as there is no |"everyone can die suicide" mission.

The best reason I could come up with is the fact that it was Shepard who carried the fight against the collectors and not him. So while I do have theories of why he could be jealous, I would still like to know the exact reason why he was jealous.

I always had the idea that Kai Leng's hate or jealously against Shepard should be different depending on what Shepard did with the Collector base and his P/R status (and perhaps what happend to the council).

If Shepard was renegade, Kai Leng is simply nothing more than jealous, jealous that Shepard is the one who had brought all these great victories for humanity and not him. So all of his hate is simply him wanting to prove that he is humanity's greatest champion and not Shepard.

With paragon Shep. Kai Leng is more disgusted by our protagonist, disgusted over this man who has done nothing but sell humanity out. Always bowing down to the aliens in order to appease them. Shepard is nothing more than a traitor. Bonus points if Shepard has an alien LI.

Granted the issue with such an idea is that most people fall somewhere inbetween, so it might be hard to execute. Might be alot easier to write a simpler version of it.

I would take Cerberus a lot more seriously in ME3 if it wasn't just TIM and Kai Leng. IF he had his own Cerba-Squad they would be a more serious threat. The way it seems is that all TIM has is Leng and a bunch of no-names attacking you, hell the rachni are a more serious threat than the enemy you fight half of the game.

exactly Bioware was trying make Cerberus look like some big enemy(even though it should have been the Reapers) and its only focused on two people

I like the idea, he needs to be fleshed out as a whole, at theemoment he only appears theer times and thats it, if he had a larger role in me3 then I think he could be respectible, besides having a bad guy that Shepard can't beat so easily at first is kinda fun

A squaddie or two could get captured/killed in every encounter...

Or, the auto victories would be more feasible because Leng's squad could show up to rescue him when he gets painted into a corner, or keep Shepard occupied while Thane and Leng fight...

An excellent point! That would make the encounters more bearable for a great deal of people.

I'm liking the Kai Leng squad idea more and more.

I think we should call it C.I.K.L.O.P.S.
