Saren from Mass Effect was a much lamer end boss in terms of difficulty.
Hence Bioware made both games lol with 2 wussy end bosses.

Really, the final battle isn't just the archdemon. It's the slog through Denerim where you do take on all those ogres and Darkspawn Generals, and then you have to slog your way to the top of Fort Drakon to meet the (seriously wounded by Riordan) archdemon in person. At this point in the game your players are pretty powerful, and there is no interaction or story left other than the endings. So after all the dungeon crawling, battles, etc, it's nice to be able to plant the archdemon with reasonable effort and wrap it up. Nothing in a game frustrates me more than impossibly hard boss-battles. After the tenth reload of something like I start to throw up my hands and say 'well hell, I guess the boss wins and I lose!' Sort of wrecks the fun if you battle your way to the end and then have to die a hundred deaths to win the game.
Just sayin'.
By the time your party makes it to the archdemon, they deserve that ballista waiting for them on the roof.

I agree. It's not just the Archdemon, it's the Generals as well.Marso40 wrote...
Hmm. Doubtless this will differ from most others' opinions, but I'm sort of glad the final battle isn't one of those frustration inducing, multiple-reload affairs that takes half a day to win.

And I also don't mind that I didn't have to reload ten times to finally defeat the endboss. That's really frustrating, at the end of a game, I just want to slay the evil and see how it all ends. The fight doesn't have to be extremely difficult for me, that would only make it frustrating. And you really don't want to be around when I get frustrated while playing a game...
By the way, the first time I didn't even see that ballista and I was still able to defeat the Archdemon without reloading. That was on easy though, so not excatly a great accomplishment.

Was it hard compared to the final bosses of other Bioware games?
Certainly not.
But to be fair, the non modded bosses except Throne of Baal( the PC literally being a lv 30 walking superpower there) were not that hard either. My favorite is still Planescape Torment( ok not exactly a Bioware game but Black Isle) were you didnt have to fight at all given the proper dialog answers, or coercions to be more precise.

There is a tendency in some games though to to make the final boss super easy... almost like a reward for getting to the end of the game, rather than a final, super difficult challenge. I think Loghain and the Landsmeet are the real boss, the Archdemon is basically there to be whaled upon to prove your awesomeness into infinity.
FF games are the worst about this... you mention 7, where the boss fight is actually just casting one summon and then watching Cloud omnislash Sephiroth to death with no input from you. 10 was even worse, you literally COULDN'T DIE in the final fight lol.
My bad 10 was the game I was thinking of. I just happen to be playing 7 again right now so it is on the brain.
